Playstation 5 [PS5] [Release November 12 2020]

So its whatever way u want to interpret.

My interpretation from this is all drives work as long as they use a PCIe 4.0 x4 connection, but drives that perform worse than the integrated 12-channel SSD will result in stuttering and/or LOD issues.

But that's the thing they can't guarantee that any will work. "Buyer beware!"

Sounds like even the faster ones available may have issues. If they had one that met all the requirements & was guaranteed to work, you would think they would mention it, no?

Hm, lol. Seeing how XSS/XSX handle this, its just to buy the freaking SSD card made for these devices and plug it in right to the back of the console unit, lower priced aswell, it seems. As a pc gamer myself, a console in my hands should be free of any hassle in that regard but ok.

Has there been any reports on the associated Fan Speed adjustments, the ones we were told were to be bundled with the internal NVME enablement?

So what's the recommended speed on the Xbox series internal drive when you install another one? I guess 2.4 gb/sec, what happens if you add a slower or faster one

There is one official drive to use to expand for Series optimized games. I bought mine for $187. You merely slide it into the expansion slot. Here's a video to help you out.

Turns out you also can use it for cameras with CF express slot, and on pc with card reader. It's way cheaper than other brands.

This is a direct quote from Sony website:

It’s the usual small print IMHO, eventually there will be a good number of these drives available that might not have the same level of QC as you might expect…this is a catch all, pretty sure they said similar about upgrading the HDD last gen and on PS3.

Best SSD for PS5 2021
Sony's required specs and our recommended drives.

installation steps says the expansion slot cover need to be reinstalled after inserting expansion drive, wouldn't leaving it open be better for an airflow around heatsink? That way it can even accomodate taller heatsinks.

edit: I'm still not a big fan of buying $200 storage expansion for $400 console, maybe PS5 Pro will have bigger internal storage.

How many games can you install in the PS5 standard SSD?
From the sample we have so far? A lot of PS5 games, or a handful of late PS4 games.

How long does it take to install/uninstall games?
Uninstalling is almost instantaneous, installing pretty much depends on your Internet speed.

You don't need to spend $200. At Newegg I can find a 1TB Gen4 M.2 for $160:

How much is the Series dongle? I can only find it for $220 at amazon and Newegg.
Not a bad deal considering the M.2 is >2x faster.

Maybe by the time PS5 pro is produced the chip shortages will already solved. The ~600 GB usable space on PS5 would be pretty limiting by the time PS5 pro came out, I think. As usually game install size keeps getting larger and larger.

And hopefully also got optical audio port hahaha so I won't need to buy a hdmi audio extractor

Is that one of the approved ones?

Personally I don't think speed in comparison to XS is to relevant. Think it's just capacity and cost. Guess speed does matter if you get ones that performs worse than internal drive.
Are there higher performing ones to internal, does the PS5 limit the speed?

One benefit is that it be can move between pc when upgrading storage.
