It largely is - not sure if that part is locked behind a paywall or not...in theory was GoT not released after the 'all games need to be PS5 compatible' deadline?

TBH I'm losing my faith in Sony, I guess it's unfortunate in that you don't always know where you will be and the technical issues you may encounter. MS are a software (I'm not talking games here) company that have lots of experience in upgrading from previous versions to new versions...Sony on the other hand not so. They obviously realised there were issues when they started saying 'games from this point need to be PS5 compatible' - I guess the warning signs were there.

But overall as I customer (and a big fan) I feel really badly let down, the lack of true exclusives moving forward is a real shame. I want devs to have unrestricted access to the tech Cerny sold me on. Instead we have the games restricted my all the tech Cerny said we would be moving away from.

Now we have payments for up gen enhancements, I do appreciate this is extra work (unlike the MS solution) but if someone has already bought the game then I feel they should get the upgrade. Even if it were behind the PS+ subscription it wouldn't be so bad...but man, they are really coming across as PS3#2, a massive console with great tech but not going to be fully utilised until later in the generation.

I personally would still buy it (because I love their exclusives), but it's only increased my reluctance to buy 3rd party games in their ecosystem - the PS5 is simply an exclusives console to me...I will only get PS+ while I can get it super cheap (I have a method of getting it for around £1pm).

    smh

Exclusives is also the reason why i stayed with PS. With how hostile they are to their own users (with the whole PS3 removed features, and PSVITA memory card), and the whole fiasco of botched early batches of PS1 and PS2 slim (with the cd drive) i really really want to ditch playstation. But i cant, due to the exclusives.

If sony suddenly released PSVR2 bundle with PS5 and new exclusives, i would pre-order the goddamn thing in a heartbeat.

    EDIT:
basically the same with nintendo. i buy their console just for the exclusives (heck, i bought Switch because i played a pirated Zelda Botw on a Wii U emulator, then i really like the damn thing, i buy the whole thing)

Last gen I was totally on board PS4, no PS3 BC didn't bother me too much (I can always keep a PS3 or get a cheap one) and pro meant I didn't upgrade my PC so PS5 seemed a no brainer.

But this gen BC was a bit more important and (as we've seen) the PS5 exclusives are being parred back to be playable on PS4. The whole thing is a bit of a mess TBH, the mixed messaging and the lack of really taking advantage of the hardware is very disappointing. They have a console which already is technically behind the competition and have watered down their advantages (outside the quality of exclusive titles).

I guess it really does show how important exclusives are - like you I'll likely be there for PSVR2, though I am enjoying Quest 2 - so an OLED version of that with a better FoV will have me questioning PSVR2.

Kinda. With the PS2 it was a no-brainer, but nowadays theres too few of them to justify a new system i think. It mght still be worth it (atleast i still went with it this time around), but next time?

If they had any marketing style or sense of humor, they should have a short countdown timer that loops over and over until it's time.

It’s hard not to see it as a response to the Sony doesn’t care about Indies thing that’s bene going round the press.

Sure PS5 Pro is very likely coming but they'll need <= 3nm chips for that. Sony don't do big APUs. Their APUs are even getting smaller. PS4 (348mm²), Pro (322mm²), PS5 (308mm²). The only way to have a ~300mm² PS5 Pro (with like 2x bigger GPU because compatibility) will be with <= 3nm chips (so not before 2023 I'd say).

Even with chiplets GPU tech they'll keep the total die area low IMO.

CFI-1100 is 300g lighter and change the Wi-Fi module from J20H100 to AW-XM501, but both modules use the same NXP Semiconductors 88W9000S.
CFI-1100 will in stock next week.(Japan)

hopefully it'll also address the aggressive fan ramp up/down when "something" gonna happen in the next few seconds (IIRC someone says it ruined their horror game experience, or it makes the horror less scary or something)

  15. I think it's very unlikely that a chiplet-based solution is going to keep the aggregate sum of all dies' areas as low as 300mm^2.
Which is totally fine, because the big advantage of using chiplets is they don't need to spend precious die area of a chip made on the latest and most expensive fab node for hardware blocks where performance isn't as critical (e.g. I/O, display headers, video codecs, PHYs, etc.).
And for the blocks where performance is critical that they must do on a high-end node, they can use smaller chiplets that will get higher yields.

The PS5 Pro could use e.g. 2x ~120mm^2 GPU chiplets with 20 WGP each using 5nm, and a third ~130mm2 one with CPU + I/O Complex + Tempest + USB + Display + PHYs + etc. using the older 7nm node.

Man I stopped looking for months and I just got a 4K TV too.

Maybe by the time it's widely available they will have the slim version.

    Or PS5 Pro.
