Playstation 3 e3 thread 2

I'm not too keen on the actual console design, and the controller has got me on my toes. DS2 is the controller for me, for some odd reason it fits my hands just perfect.

But the specs.. them I like :) The price I probably won't but .. gotta ask for a raise then.

Gigapixel is dead and buried and RSX is buried too :)
LOL..maybe I'm being oversensitive here but 22 GB/s devoted to textures, back buffer and front buffer, with 720p rendering, fp buffers and AA seem QUITE low to me.
Maybe they left out AA support on fp buffers...

Well, the gauntlet has been thrown down.......XBox360 becomes XBox180......half the power....and running 180 degrees from the competition. At least fairweather MS fanboys are. Been browsing some of the XBox forums and some of them are in a suspension of disbelief, frankly can't say i blame 'em. We'll see if the paper differences pan out at all.
Um I see nothing for X360 fans to be worried about. The PS3 doesn't even have any Edram to help with bandwidth. The systems are a wash in realworld performance. The X360 if anything is more efficient in 3 ways:
1. New GPU capable of running either vertex or pixel shader operations as needed by software.

2. Edram. (256GB/s bandwidth)

3. Even though complicated in its own right, the CPU is definately more staight forward than the CELL.

They both have the same amount of RAM, so no real winner there. Well actually, unified memory might give the X360 the advantage there too.

EDIT: Just pointing these out, they pretty much make up the difference between PS3's "brawn" and X360's efficiency. This is even closer than GC vs XBOX, but they both have the same amount of ram. Also, it looks like the PS3's HDD is just an addon while X360s is standard. (if it's standard some games will use for caching data) Just makes up a little for lack of Blu Ray, and again, what speed BR drive is that anyways?

I think they sound pretty even. so much for 4.6 ghz and MS being the new dreamcast. Guess it really will come down to software.

Okay, so this thread has a lot more attention than the other two, Sony has this knack of attracting attention to itself.
there isn't much going on at the moment for the other sides except gates saying halo 3 will launch to counter the ps3

So is the Xbox 360 have standard 720p and 2x AA?
Is the PS3 standard 1080P?

Also is the 160GB harddrive standard on the PS3? Kind of confused and being on a slow dial up can't surf for the answers:(.

You're either joking or an idiot.

Heh, take your pick, it was based on some observations of rabid anti Sony types on certain forums and certain equivelents on the Sony boards. Evidently it blew right by you.

Stop trying to start flame wars or you will be removed from the forums

I must say, this gen's fight looks like it will be the best yet. Two systems evenly matched.. let's hope that the marketing-speak stops the company-loyals from spreading too much FUD.

Even match means more competition means more quality for us, which is the best thing :)

Design looks ok, though I'm yet to see a scale. Would be great to see it next to X360.

It does not compute.

I don't think I'm excited about Gates forcing that out the door. I don't know if I can handle another Halo CE situation (well... 6 months to port and finish the game leading to 50% of the game being repeated with very very short cut scenes)

There is no HD standard as 1080P, and currently, there are only a few TV sets that actually has 1080P as the native resolution.

However, as manufacturing of display technoligies becomes cheaper, they will eventually release 1080p TVs, especially if the next-gen high-def DVD supports it. As this console is for the next five years, it is logical to support this resolution by default.

The only thing that DID shock me and that seemingly everyone ignored is Sony's confirmation that PS3 will use a 6X BlueRay drive...

I think that's a big whammy, in light of all the HDDVD, joined format talks, whatever's going on at the moment...
