Wow, Sony's conference was nice and classy. Let's see what MS can do this evening.

BTW, that terrain demo was software rasterized, it didn't even use the GPU at all.


Most impressive demo IMHO was UT2007.

Yeah that's the f'ed up part. It makes no sense buying next gen without an HD setup. Hopefully prices fall by this time next year.

I agree, their presentation skill is high as usual (and Kutaragi is enthusiastic as hell ). Its feeling of PS3 grandness is impressive.

Yeah, that was already extremly impressive, but that Nvidia GPU tops it all. I can't remember how many times I sayd "holy shit" while watching the presentations.

I believe these are the final specs . If they weren't they wouldn't have released them . Acording to ign they are going to start stockpilling this in november . I think this is what they feel on 90nm that they can produce in quanity at a good price point and rightly so its enough to be faster than the x360 but nto so much that it will break the bank .

The dual output would be nice for a better field of view but I want it to be used for multi player. Split screen is nice but seperate TVs would take multiplayer to a whole new level.

You have to give sony thier due they have 1 hell of a PR department. Today was just off the hook they had the right demos and the perfect things to say. Hell they probably sold out the PS3 for the first 6 months by saying the magic words of GTA at launch. I still can not believe MS let sony get GTA again.

Yeah, the presentation wasn't so bad. Despite how people feel about the design of the console, I don't think its that bad. In the end though, it is the games that matters, imo.

Really classy show by Sony. Only a couple outrageous PR quotes--but a LOT of high quality media from developers to send a strong message to try to back it up. It really looks like Sony hit a homerun with not only the show but also getting strong developer support. Sony has executed a great first step. It is their game to lose and it looks like they are taking it seriously. GREAT time to be a gamer 8)

In an absolute sense yes the specs are less than what was anticipated for a long time on this forum (a 4 Cell BE, or atleast 2 Cells, a MINIMUM of 512MB RAM, and games rendered REYES style with micropolygons) but noone is dissapointed because it looks so great in comparison with the XBox 360 games that were shown on MTV. However much it falls short of initial expectations, it IS still the most powerful console.

Unless Nintendo can pull a rabbit out of its hat...

i believe all the demos except the eye toy ones were prerendered or off dev kits . Apparently devs have only had the ps3 for 2 months .

your not going to see a jump in ram or a huge jump in clock speeds. You might see 50mhz here or there change .

They designed tehse for a reason and thats mass production by july at least for microsoft and november for sony .

When you increase ghz of a cpu u increase the potential for bad yields . I'm sure at 3.2 ghz in april the cell chip will be hitting around 80% working parts in the yields . At 4ghz that might drop signifigantly . This is the same for amd / intel and even for the x360 cpu .

No, if you watch the complete video they are quick to point out what was on CELL alone and what was CELL+RSX. Most of it there was no comment... I am sure some of it was "game target" footage of what they would like the games to look like (some even say as much it seems). But still very impressive. Now just time to wait for the GAMES!

Most surprising part is that PS3's GPU has double the transistor count of Xbox360's GPU, yet has faster clock speed...that is quite a monster that Nvidia brought.
