Official February 20, 2013 Playstation event

I really like OnLive's wall of games concept, and spectating. Would be very cool if PS Cloud can offer something similar. Sony haven't shown anything in that aspect (Probably need to revamp PS Home). I think they only showed us a screenshot of a ustream session.

I also like Gaikai on PS4 to stream games to other devices a la WiiU.

They are (were ?) Sony partners.

From what I heard, Gaikai integration is easier (The game devs don't have to do much). They are more operationally ready (referring to their 300 data center footprint claim). They are also more careful in spendings. In comparison, OnLive team has more interesting end user services (e.g., virtual host your personal Windows environment).

MS will likely have something similar also. They are big in cloud computing.

But since not many people use the service, what is your point?

My point is that you said:

The most innovative piece of the whole show was Gaikai

It's hardly innovative if it's already being done. It's simply a new implementation of pre-existing technology. (although I agree it could be revolutionary in a console).

And you also said:

That sense of immediacy won't be matched on any other console or PC

And yet as I said, OnLive is doing it on PC right now.

Both OnLive and Gaikai are innovative in their own ways. Innovation is not a finite, zero sum game. >_<

Was told their technical approach is different.

What makes PS Cloud potentially interesting will be the integration of Gaikai, PS+, and Sony's more open business approach:
1. Cross-buy into other devices (Vita, and potentially PC/Mac since they have SOE and are willing to partner with everyone)
2. Cross presence boundary into Internet (WebKit + plugin + 3D gaming)
3. Cross client and server integration (Mix Gaikai server session -- like PS Home -- and client-based gaming in 1 integrated session)

If it is done on the scale with PS4 seeks, then it won't be matched by PC in the slightest.

A network like Sony and Gaikai are talking about requires "massive" capital investment. They are talking about building a much larger network that is funded by Sony the corporation, not just Gaikai themselves.

So yes, it would be very innovative to deliver this type of gaming on a medium like this, but most importantly on the scale they appear to be talking about.

What you are talking about is a very narrow view of innovative which only highlights one aspect of it, which is invention.

You don't need to invent or "be the first" to innovate. Anyone can win a semantics argument I'm sure, and if you want to just "be right" that's the approach to take.

Who was "first" does not matter. Business and the end-user don't care who was "first" to make something. The market only cares about who is the first to make it matter. And as of right now, Sony and Gaikai has the highest prospect to have cloud gaming actually make a difference in how people view games.

The difference between Gaikai and OnLive is that only Gaikai has the support of a multi-billion dollar multinational company investing in it for a dedicated hardware. If no more people know about OnLive from today until well into the future, we'll have the answer as to who made the innovation actually matter.

The reason I am calling it an innovation is simple: the vast majority of users do not cloud game yet, and the first who brings it to the table in a meaningful way will be the one who will be crowned the "innovator," because they are the ones who truly brought change. Apple "innovated" the smartphone market, because they brought the change; it didn't matter whose idea or "invention" it was.

We will see who moves cloud gaming to the forefront first. If I were a betting man, my money right now is on Sony. Things can change, but this is the appearance today.

Sorry if this is a repost..

These a "HQ" YT links:

Highlights from the presentation:

Trailer with clips from some of the games, i think this has the highest quality ingame video, the highlight is most likely done from a taping of the show, and that can't compete with a direct feed video.

Game trailers good quality as well:
