Nvidia Geforce Drivers Release Announcement thread

It's the whole double app mess all over again.

Like windows classic control panel and windows modern settings.

Because some stuff are in the old Nvidia driver panel. Some stuff are in the Nvidia app. Some stuff are on both

Yes its a nice front end but limited in functionality compared to the full CP.

The game library view is totally rubbish too. I don't know why they don't just make it into a full cross store game launcher front end like Playnite.

It would make it far more useful for most gamers and a genuine selling point for Nvidia IMO (assuming it is at least as good as Playnite that is).

Isn't meant to replace the CP just yet, only GFE.

Went did a quick and dirty test in sons of the forest, my save was in the middle of the forest near a waterfall so i used that and looked in the direction my fps was lowest. App open on the desktop with overlay enabled 95 fps, app open overlay turned off 95fps, app closed overlay still disabled 95fps. I have the highlight recording thing turned off always so that wasn't on in any of my tests so maybe that has an impact, i also didn't completely uninstall the app just nuked some processes to try get it out of memory.

when I say overlay turned off I also mean in the app/driver not just toggling the osd read out, can't open the nvidia overlay with the hotkey.

If i get a chance will look at some other games, no promises this close to xmas.

I wouldn't be surprised if it's some of the recording options doing dumb stuff in the background. I usually have all of that and the filters turned off. Just honestly don't use the app for anything, and I'm too lazy to test, so I just uninstalled it.

Yeh I suspect the always on recording thing could be part of the issue, it doesn't default to av1 either from my experience. I'm not sure if that would be better or worse for ada cards though from a performance hit perspective. I never used geforce experience and normally just run the drivers, i'm trying to get used to using the app incase nvidia ends up making that the only place to change the driver settings in the future.

You sure? I don't ever remember seeing performance regressions like that from nvidia overlay.
Yes. I've checked this myself at some point as the posts on that have been appearing since the app was launched in beta. The OSD does have a performance impact but if you disable it in the app's settings then it's the same as with app uninstalled.

Except NVIDIA already confirmed it's the Game Filters, not Overlay, that's causing the performance loss. Disabling Game Filters but having Overlay on gives same performance as without NVIDIA App altogether.

If your disable the overlay you also disable game filters. Which is the main reason to have the overlay active really anyway.
