NPD April 2007

The USA NPD numbers are coming out within an hour (~6:30 pm EST).

In the meanwhile, here are some Canada NPD numbers to chew on (numbers wise, Wii > PS2 + PS3 + x360):

Wii 42100
DS 34900
PS2 18000
360 12800
PSP 12100
GBA 7900
PS3 7200[/QUOTE]

It's been suggested that Nintendo held back shipments of Wii's during march because they had already had good enough numbers for the fiscal year. The numbers from Canada seem to corroborate with that theory.

Let's hope that isn't correct. The internet would explode if the PS3 went under 100k (not to mention losing another round in the PS3 vs GBA grudge match).

NOT confirmed but from VGchartz:

The site isn't the most reliable but who knows. :D

VGCharts used to be mostly reliable, but Ioi really jumped the shark with his latest round of "extrapolations" (wild guesses, really) that he started making in order to stop legal threats from NPD...

It's out: http://biz.gamedaily.com/industry/feature/?id=16199
don't have time to format it correctly but here it is:

Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter predicted PS3 sales in the U.S. for April would be around 100K. Unfortunately for Sony, they were even worse. PS3 sold a woeful 82,000 units for the month, while the Nintendo DS once again stole the show with 471K. PS3 sales were so low that Nintendo's ancient GBA sold more with 84K. The best selling console was Nintendo's Wii with 360K sold, while the Xbox 360 sold an unimpressive 174K. Sony's PS2 beat out the 360 (again) with 194K. The PSP sold 183K units and the GameCube (essentially on life support) sold just 13K.

edit: oops beaten.

LOL, well... maybe the Internet will, but hopefully not this site. ;)

I don't think sales numbers on any order can be viewed as surprising at this point - all "shock" barriers have fallen. PS3 200k or 20k... it's all within the realm of reason these days! I don't much care personally, just so long as the present PS3 software/feature ramp is maintained. I do consider the industry to be officially 'shaken up' at this point though, but hey... good things can come of that for everyone.

The monthly horse race...

Now cue the typical crowd to dance on Sony's grave. But the PS2 is beating
everyone but the Wii. Slow time of year, everyone is selling less.

I recall last year when people were making fun of 360 monthly figures. Claiming how the 360 was dying before the PS3 even arrived and how PS3 will make it look stupid and what not.....

82k = pitiful. anyway you cut it.

In other news: Nintendo's GLOBAL domination continues with no end in sight. Some got this nex figured out and it's not the "next gen" folks :p

Yeah well the 360 monthly figures aren't anything to brag about - they just can't be classified as ass! :p

Anyway I'm going out to eat right now - I'm sure this thread will be full of hilarity, but please guys, just no flaming and baiting each other if you can help it.

You know, really, the PSP is still pretty darn solid. I guess it did have the price drop this month though.

Other than that, the usual, except PS3 even lower than expected.

360 Elite was only out for a week, but didn't seem to do much. Perhaps it will have an effect on next months numbers.

sony couldn't do better with psp. its their first handheld device out there, only being 2-3m units behind NDS is not bad imo ;)

but i guess more price cut is coming, even though there are so many games coming, i can't wait for them :devilish:
