Considering Ivy's whip barely extends outside of Nightmare's ALWAYS range... ;)

Range OF weapons is one thing, and certainly there's a broad swath of them (heck, I think Heihachi is the most interesting add simply because he has almost NO range and becomes a very stylistically different fighter), but projectiles are just tacky stylistically--and probably very strong/annoying against newer players. They likely don't effect more advanced players much at all, but their game is quite different. Heh...

Soul Calibur 2 selling best on GC is largley down to GC having a higher concentration of Sega fans then the other 2 consoles IMO. If anyone needs proof of this then its simple, take a look at sales for Sega games on all three consoles. GC easily has the best sales for Sega games (userbase to sales ratio). Of course its also down to a lack of quality games for that genre on GC, as well as Link being in the game. Another factor is the superb quality of the GC version overall. Its a far cry from the usual late crappy PS2 port with a bad framerate like a lot of other multiplatform games on GC.

Well, if it was about graphics, people would go for the Xbox version. For control, PS2. For special character.. GC.

The controls for the GC version of Soul Calibur 2 are just as good as the PS2 and XBox versions. Check out the IGN head to head.

Interesting that the GC and Xbox version of Soul Calibur II both sold more than the PS2 one.

Well the PS2 version is quite noticably the worst version of the three. I'm sure that's a factor. As well as the large amount of similar games already on PS2.

I think he's referring to the controller there, and though it's subjective, I've rarely run across anyone who prefers the GC controller for fighting games. Especially if you want to touch the D-pad at all, which there is reason to in SC2. I like the GC in general for games, but for the way I play fighters it is--how shall we say--horrible. It's definitely well behind PS2 and Xbox for just about anyone I know who's talked about it.

Yeah I was talking about the controller as well.

The pad is less suited to fighting games in general from what I hear. But that doesn't mean that, with enough thought and work, it can't be made to work just as well as the other controllers in certain fighting games.

I can't comment from my own experience, since I've only played SC2 on GC. But according to the IGN head to head the GC controller works just as well as the other controllers for this game. I've seen an equal amount of people saying that each of the 3 pads are best for SC2, which tells me that in general they're all equal for this game.

Personally, I avoid using the analog for games like this, and the Cube's D-pad makes the baby jeebus cry. (I suffered enough trying to play Bloody Roar with it.) I also can't twist the controller to play "on top", as hitting buttons only with my thumb makes my teeth itch as well. (I got used to it with the Dreamcast's controller, but the Playstation's is ideal for me--very light and easy to manipulate.)

One can get used to just about anything, but my friend who picked up SC2 didn't even CONSIDER wanting to get it on Cube since he also had the PS2 option.

Ok, thats your personal preference. But I have also seen plenty of people saying they don't like the other two pads for this game. What I'm saying is that personal preference aside the GC controller is just as good as any other for Soul Calibur 2. That's backed up by the IGN head to head (as well as opinions I've heard from people who own more then one version) and the sales of the GC version AFAICS. I mean if someone is going to buy the GC version over the others because of, say Link, then they're not going to do so if the GC controller hinders their play at all compared to the other versions.

LOL, uh, no... Nightmare's "ALWAYS" range is only maybe 2/3 of Ivy's Whipsword full extend. Nightmare's longest range attack is the same style (straight forward jab), but takes about 3-4 times longer to execute and recover from, and still doesn't have quite as much range.

Heh, between me and two of my RL friends with the GC SC2, after about 3 games involving Link, not one of us ever gets hit by those projectiles anymore. Using them is asking for a quick death - the recovery time is just insane.

Nightmare? Ivy? Aren't you guys forgetting Mr. Long Range Cheapo himself, Kilik??

Bahaha. One of the few places where Link's projectiles are definitely cheap - but in a way, a very welcome balancer in this case =)
