Xbox Boss Phil Spencer On PC Gaming: "As a gamer I play games on PC... I want to be able to play the games where I want to play them... I want to give people a choice."

Phil Spencer said in a recent interview he wants to give people a choice, to play games on the Xbox One and the PC.

He said this in the video that @rokkerkory has shared before.

Is he hinting at a PC-Xbox fusion? I gotta admit I am one of those Phil Spencer defines as being in the back channel theory of keeping people from playing games on other platforms so they envy you.

But then I am not a Shifty, a Maxine Caulfield or a Phil Spencer, I don't have their common sense.
Phil is sending out mixed messages.
At E3 he talked about how important it is to have console exclusives. Either way I think it is the future of Xbox. Whether I like it or not. I think it isn't coming until next gen when the Xbox will just be a consumer friendly PC.
I follow Phil on Xbox live and its funny he says he spends a lot of time gaming on his laptop. I see him playing Xbox one games almost every time I am online. He plays a lot of Destiny.

I must admit, Microsoft do seem to be holding true to their promise to support PC gaming this time. There's a way to go before we know for sure if they're serious but so far it's looking very promising.

They will, because it's essential to their future. They can't compete with mobile, and have a fight with consoles, whereas a unified PC experience gives them an unprecedented advantage. The motivation is now there where perhaps it wasn't before, and MS will make something of it.

I'm really hoping that they add game streaming from PC to Xbox (for all games). I would prefer that solution to the Steam Link (skeptical on the controller and probably only works with Steam games).

Enable that, give me a X1+elite controller bundle, and I'll jump back in.

How so?

Their one big exclusive deal this gen (so far) excludes the PC platform (although this deal is timed so it will be coming eventually).

Forza, despite being shown running on a PC initially at e3, and being used as a proof of concept for DX12 when it was announced, still hasn't been released or even been mentioned as something thats going to happen.

Lets go through the list, Forza - No, Halo - No, Tomb Raider - No, Crackdown - No, Crimson Dragon - No, Gears of War 4 - No, Quantum Break - No, ReCore - No, Sunset Overdrive - No, OK I'm boring myself here.....

Other than an MMO, I cannot see one game created by a first party MS studio that is going to appear on PC.

They haven't got their one platform yet. When the same executable runs on XB1 and PC, then we'll see if Phil is true to his word/vision of playing the same game on any device.

Edit: Phil came in March 2014, so has only had a year!

Most likely he delegated his public account to someone. Or shares. To maintain public image.

Funny you mentioned that. I personally know a few executives (well known) who have social media accounts, yet have personal assistants or PR agencies be their mouthpiece. Most have no clue on how to be personable or be active (interactive) within these social media groups.

I think MS can support pc without releasing x1 exclusives on it. Although I'm aware other people think differently.
support it with a good OS, facilities, etc.
the pc gets many exclusives, including multi platform, and multiplatform across ps4 and pc, x1 and pc.
in terms of games it's not really lacking.
don't need gold to play online, trying to standardise vr and to make it plug and play, live, game dvr, etc etc.
I'm not saying cant bring x1 games onto it, just that making it a enjoyable (and one people want to use) and easy system to play games on first and foremost is what's required by them to really support pc gaming

It's worth noting that Microsoft have already said they will announce further games for the PC between now and Gamescon:

TBH I'm perfectly happy for the XBO to keep it's big exclusives for 6-12 months to reap the benefits of being the "only" platform with those games while they still have some significant pulling power, but it would be nice to see sopme of them come to PC at a later date. Gears 2+3 and Halo 3 and 4 for example are now well past their useful lives on the X360 so why not release PC versions?

Yeah, with Gears UE being released - they kind of should continue on with that, assuming they'll do remasters/remakes of those as well (in due time).

I imagine Halo MCC needs to be fixed first before they announce it. :p

Halo Online (Russia) is a curious thing considering they basically ported Halo 3/ODST engine + enhancements.

There was news of such a bundle posted briefly on Walmart's website before being pulled, priced at $499. Referred to as the "Elite Bundle" it most probably included an XB1 and the Elite Controller.

I was making the same point before about bringing x1 exclusives to pc, people was adamant it wouldn't happen. So I'm far from against it, I do believe they may need a window though.

It's just that I don't think that's the only way to show support for the platform, yet its what most people seem to say/point to.

What is that you say? A bunch of games that haven't been released for the XB1 yet also haven't been released for W10 PC's?

The horror!

3 have, 1 had actively been excluded from pc where the previous instalment was released simultaneously on pc and Xbox.

But I don't expect you to discuss that when you have such an easy fanboy exit from the post.

Gears remake is on PC and Fable legends two big games this year for MS . I don't see a problem at all. Tomb raider should also show up on pc as its just a timed exclusive. Gears 4 may also show up on pc

I don't see how you take this statement:

He further clarified the above statement by saying: “There’s this kind of back channel frankly I don’t really subscribe to of you need to keep people from playing in certain places, somehow that’s the answer… I want to give people choice and with Xbox I want it to be the best TV gaming experience you can have but frankly if I’m not on my TV and I’m on my laptop, and want to play killer instinct, I want to play gear, I want to play fable, I should be able to do that and to try force people to buy something by excluding their choice.”

To mean anything other than the goal is to get former console exclusives on the PC. The fact that he specifically mentions Xbox exclusives such as KI, Gears, and Fables, certainly runs counter to whatever silliness you are trying to put forth.
