It's possible that they have some things for the OS that they want to reveal at E3?
There is a small mention [in the blog] that the Xbox team is gearing up for E3, I'm not entirely sure what that means, except that it's understandable if they delay June's Preview to E3, or post E3 if they have something to reveal.

Isn't messaging+chat Skype? That's what happened with XB1 dropping support for chat etc. from 360.

No. Text & the recently added Voice Messages is supported separately from Skype just like on 360. They're also cross-platform compatible. Finally. Party Chat is also separate from Skype. You can use either while playing though, but Skype supports video in snapped mode. Now they don't support private chat like they did on 360. That's why you can't chat between the 2 systems. Also, I believe the newer codec on Party chat is based on Skype technologies & that's why Party Chat is not supported across to the 360. If they would deliver a Skype app on 360 it might be nice, but since it wouldn't be integrated into the system like Party/Private Chat I bet it wouldn't get much use.

How many Halo fans are still out there that don't have the console? Guess we'll find out next month.

If it came with Kinect, I'd probably grab one for my office/spare bedroom.

Curious. Makes you wonder why these weren't ready at launch. I thought the move was to a singular integrated system.

So there'll be a secondary chat system in play on Windows for Live, different from Skype and using different details with different contacts etc.?

The Xbox app for Windows 10 uses the same services and gamertag as Xbox Live on your console. Skype is a different entity. If I use Skype on my Xbox, I have to add Skype contacts. People I add as Live friends are not added to my Skype contacts automatically. It's a bit odd. I had thought Xbox One would use Skype for both voice and video chat. I mean, why duplicate the same system? The nice thing is, a few times Xbox Live has seen issues with chat or party functionality for an hour, we'd switch over to Skype to chat instead.

Yeah, what Scott said. :)

I also think it helps you understand if you think of Xbox Live as a separate social network like Facebook. It has it's own friends list, messenger/chat system, activity page with statuses & the ability to "like" them. You can even follow games(hubs) and people(different then becoming friends since you don't have to reciprocate). When you think of it that way you'll understand why they decided to keep Skype a separate app. I personally wouldn't my gaming friends mixed up with my real life friends & vice versa.

It's kind of a neat system. It wasn't at first, but now with the addition of voice messages between 360 & XB1 users it's much better. Just wished they supported voice chat between the two. It would be almost perfect then. Now if they can just organize the activity feed better & make it part of the dash instead of a separate app, I'll be even more happy.

I think that's the real point. Skype is used as a business app, and by keeping it separate on Xbox Live, it allows you to use your Xb1 and Kinect to Skype in business applications, without having your colleagues "call" Rancidlunchmeat. Instead, they'll call my real name based on my Skype account, just like it was a PC.

Now if they can just organize the activity feed better & make it part of the dash instead of a separate app, I'll be even more happy.

It still takes me five minutes to send a message to a friend. I have to stop what I'm doing, go to the friends app, click into it, then select the friend and then select send message, etc.. etc.. I know I can snap the app to the side, but I really don't like the whole snap thing. Even on my 55 inch TV, I'd rather just have the game full screen. The only time I found snap useful was when I was watching the NFL draft (using the entire screen isn't necessary for that sort of event), and I snapped the NFL app to provide additional info on the side. But that is one particular event that seems almost tailor made for snap. As does any "news" event, which is why news channels have the ticker at the bottom of the screen.

I like snap & use it quite often for a lot of functions. Without using it, things are a lot more complicated, especially if you don't have Kinect. If you have Kinect you should use the voice command instead: "Xbox send a message". It's a lot quicker. I just wished you could say "Xbox message AzBat360" similar to how Skype supports "Xbox call Tommy". Hopefully we'll get the ability to add custom voice commands.

Looks like we're getting new Xbox One controller with a dedicated 3.5mm headset jack according to a leak that was initially found on NeoGAF. That's cool, but where's my chatpad?

"3.5-mm port (16). Used to connect compatible 3.5-mm audio devices," the support article said. "Only available on controllers released after June 2015."

Good thing they are keeping the expansion port (9). There's still hope for a chatpad.

But it's a good thing, now any third party headsets is equally compatible with PS4 or XB1.
The only thing left is to have the controller come with a li-ion battery and a usb charging port for the same price.

another 180 and this time I can't benefit since I already have two with the old money extracting port.
I get what you mean (and I feel the same way), but technically speaking I'm not sure if you can call this a 180. They never said that this was going to happen at all.
