News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

Some people use it to their advantage to buy games in the Russian store, the Indian store, etc etc, paying like half the cost of a game compared to the price of said game in the European store. They go as far as registering an actual Russian address for their credit cards, etc. I know people whose CC address is the address a butcher's. :D  Google maps/Bing maps are your friends.

I know but this was about a *free* Gold game.

It's one-way only afaik, so that's the downside? You wouldn't be able to control much?

I think my TV has this built in - haven't used it much yet, but did manage to play a video from PC to the TV iirc.

Just use wireless keyboard and mouse or gamepad. If it's in another room like my current setup. Just use USB extender to get the radio receiver closer to your living room. For control that's how I current do it. The bigger, but quite manageable, pain for me is the 6 meter HDMI cable. :D If Miracast didn't introduce too much lag (no idea) that would be an interesting alternative to go without the cable.

Or I could use Miracast to remote play from my desktop machine instead of HTPC/Server. Hmmmm. Interesting possibilities.

SB

Now that you mention it, since my laptop doesn't support Miracast nor WiDi -no Intel wi-fi adapter-, there is always the option of projecting a wired connection.

I wonder if it would work with an Ethernet cable instead of a HDMI one, I don't have a long HDMI cable at home.

^ I think I have a spare 50', was going to run it in the attic and decided it was too hot (a few years back). :) Would that be long enough?

Still not getting great results with the wi-fi display, video is not all that great and it shrinks the screen on the Xbox as well. Have not tried my phone though. Maybe once we invent a way to send photons through a wormhole we can have projectors anywhere, like a hololenseless Hololens!

There is a slim possibility that FOVE (a VR headset that backed by Microsoft and already supports gaze/eye tracking and foveated rendering) being integrated with Xbox:

Also, Microsoft released RoomAlive toolkit for Kinect, "a software framework that lets you string together Kinect motion trackers to create interactive projection maps":

They also announced Handpose for Kinect:

I initially thought every VR device supported gaze tracking.... That sounds interesting, although I don't see VR being a reality on the Xbox One any time soon. RoomAlive shares similarities with Illumiroom -maybe Illumiroom is just RoomAlive, but for the illuminati :) - and the concept is quite nice.

Handpose again shows potential, but with Kinect almost dead for the Xbox One, its future uses might be in the smartphone industry and similar devices.

On a related note, we know now that MS purchased Minecraft because of Hololens, but hopefully we'll see some other uses in gaming. Phil Spencer has admitted they are talking about it:

A little bit of deja vu. Xbox to gain DVR capabilities. http://www.windowscentral.com/new-rumor-claims-xbox-one-will-add-tv-dvr-features-sometime-2015

Well i'm sure it's coincidence, but it still left a smile on my face. After the DX12 advanced presentation, I was waiting around the experts lounge to speak further with Max but instead ended up speaking with two and three microsoft employees before we met to chat. The topic of Xbox vs PS4 came up and well after the presentation every question I've ever wanted to know about the Xbox One with regards to DX12 had been answered, in fact, all of it has really, but regardless - they asked me what it would take to come back.

So I explained the situation to them, and the only thing that MS could really do to bolster Xbox One is to just replace the DVR. At the end of the day parents control the money, kids might demand PS4, but when parents are confronted with regular DVR with cable package vs Xbox One with cable package, it's a sure fire win - they get a better DVR and kids still get their console.

And kids will eventually warm up to the perceived gap in performance, we are speaking to a generation of kids who love minecraft here.

And behold lol, MS is already working on it. Either those guys were looking at me like, whoa yea we are already doing this, or they are saying, yea we're going to pass this information on up. or lol just coincidence, which is the likely case.

Not sure where to put this because it isn't official. To soon for a dedicated thread maybe. Gears of War remaster screens leaked.

hm... actually, I wouldn't be surprised if it were based on the Gears 3/Judgment iteration of the engine. They can still make improvements to the renderer on top of that (kind of like Arkham Knight), but really all the tools are there to make "another" Gears game.

I wonder if they would then stream content to other X1's in the house, as I would want some kind of extender. The ironic thing with this is, it would probably borrow on WMC, so if they can do an X1 DVR why not update Win10 with WMC?

MS is setting foundations for a strong future XBOX product, whether it will be through a software update or a hardware revision or the next XBOX. On the other hand I dont see competition having the same resources to build just as strong foundations yet

Caught this on twitter, any guesses? The (conspiracy part) of me wants to think this will be a small streamed to device to serve X1 for games and TV. Maybe at E3 we get info, or like many things with MS it is just something that will never be released or talked about.

Or it is a Surface model with a built in controller setup like the Razer tablet

I actually hope if it is a remaster of Gears 1 that they add the additional content from the PC release of Gears of War.

I don't think it's anything major. There are also windows Nano servers as well, and they are stripped down windows servers to be rapid to deploy and quick to get things going.

Additionally, it could be part of the new dashboard update, now recorded videos can run at 60 fps.

Halo The Master Chief Collection video taken directly from an user account:

https://account.xbox.com/en-gb/gameclip/282dd75f-f769-43d6-88ba-d8bcdf939543?gamerTag=Mr XBob&scid=77290100-225e-4768-9373-98164430a9f8

For games that are 60fps, I'd prefer 720p60 to 1080p30 for recorded clips. Obviously if the game is 30fps, I'd take 1080p, but the clips recorded during some clips seem to be fairly low quality anyway.

That's an interesting question. Especially now as more "mainstream" sites are picking up the DVR rumor (instead of MS having disputed it, they're letting it gain steam).

Could it be due to licensing requirements that have to be paid (to somebody) for the functionality? If that were the case, MS may be willing to pay that fee for X number of XB1's, but not for every single Win10 device - especially since they're giving away Win10 for free. It also might give them a smaller ecosystem to test the functionality, rather than rolling it out to less tech-saavy mainstream consumers?

I know part of the reason they sold WMC on 8 was to cover fees that they did not want to roll into the OS cost that time around. The previous OS they had to cover the licensing costs for each copy sold regardless if WMC was ever used. I don't remember if it was DRM or DVD related anymore (or both). Another thing we could be looking at is the newer standards for streaming content vs cable, and X1 is already at that newer standard, see the Rigby thread on Gaf for example.

Would WiFi Direct be up to the task for streaming games from X1 to a special X1 dongle (maybe Nano)? I have never had good luck trying such things, quality is always much worse on top of lag in the stream. Wired is the only way I see things working in my house for the time being.

Eurogamer have an article reminding people that any Xbox account credit received during the Microsoft Points switchover expires at the end of the month.

Buy something. Buy ANYTHING! :runaway: Actually, just buy the Witcher 3 because it has Gryphons and vampire and unicorns
