News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

Would rather have 360 design with updated D-pad.

I don't think I could give up the XB1 battery compartment. It doesn't protrude. Though I might agree with having the 360 bumpers & support for the 360 chatpad. That would make the XB1 controller perfect for me.

I like the 360 sticks better, but the XB1 triggers and D-pad. The bumpers on both suck. I can do without the glowing ball too.

Looks like we're getting new Xbox One controller with a dedicated 3.5mm headset jack according to a leak that was initially found on NeoGAF. That's cool, but where's my chatpad?

Good thing they are keeping the expansion port (9). There's still hope for a chatpad.

Not that I need it anyways, but it is a pity for those who purchased an adaptor for 20 something euros. Hopefully this isn't the controller people have been rumouring about, when some rumours spread about MS working on a new hardcore gamepad for the E3.

I'd like something similar to this:

Or a new Sidewinder.

Xbox One controller is better than the one for 360, except for the durability of the thumbsticks.

I go back to the 360 every now and then (hurry up Rock Band 4!) and it's very easy to forget just how much better the X1 controller is.

Barring the shoulder buttons which could use a bit of tweaking, the X1 controller is IMO miles better. Stick sensitivity, deadzone, stick grip (love the knurled rubber), D-pad, face buttons, triggers, battery compartment, USB charging. All are big improvements.

If all this new X1 controller changes is the headphone socket then that's a bit of a missed opportunity IMO. Shoulder buttons have been the biggest complaint that I can tell from forum browsing.

Also I'm not sure how changing the headphone socket would make the new controller 'more hardcore'.

Yah, the X1 controller is a big improvement. Both the X1 controller and the new Dual Shock are far better than the controllers last gen. I don't mind the bumpers on the X1, but I've heard some people complain. I think some tweaks for this like that could definitely be an improvement, but there's no way I'd go back to a 360 controller. My only real issue is the thumstick sensor is not very durable. If it breaks you get dead spots and drift.

I had one of those for a day or two, I might still have it as I am not sure where it went after I threw it. I did enjoy their motion controller (was it the sidewinder?) for racing games, I was always a bit bummed that it never made it into the 360 or X1 controllers. It was great fun with motocross madness even.

If this is a real pic of the controller, it doesn't have the volume adjustment, the mute button or the buttons to adjust the balance between chat and game audio. No thanks. I'll stick with what I have and the adapter. Those buttons are incredibly useful.

Perhaps they are on the back below the battery door but my guess is snap an app to control, set once and leave for most folk, perhaps a button combo to change voice or game preference

I am more than happy with the puck and have a spare for when i buy a new controller anyway.

I would much rather have the buttons. I adjust the volume a lot as I'm playing. I also use that mute button a ton. Unless I'm talking, that mic is muted. I wish more people did that. I don't need to hear people eating chips, smacking their food, rummaging in their houses etc.

So, what do you expect from this E3?.

I'm not necessarily expecting, but more like hoping for, a solid (and imminent!) release date for Below.

Some details and maybe demo gameplay of Forza 6 would also be nice.

I'm also hoping for some more cross-play announcements. The missus plays on PC and I play on Xbox. We both play Neverwinter and we'd love to be able to play together.

Neverwinter will almost certainly not get cross-play, but with Fable Legends leading the charge hopefully it will become the norm, for appropriate game genres at least.

Not the same this year. This year is like a true story.

Hmmm, Forza 6, I just hope they add climate once and for all, because Project Cars is out already and it has set a new standard in that sense.--console wise. Cross play is a feature most peple would love to have, it should work better in 60 fps games, so the online would be more fair and even.

For sim racing as far as I'm concerned car handling physics and a flawless 60fps framerate are the top priority. Absolutely everything else is secondary, and if handling/responsiveness are impacted by graphical bling or unnecessary environmental modelling (when a baked solution will suffice) then cut 'em.

Having said that, the weather/ToD work on Horizon I would have thought would be incorporated into Forza 6.

It depends on the game. For competitive PvP gaming, yes. 60fps provides a relatively even playing field with respect to responsiveness, although PC usually has the option to reach even higher framerates.

I don't really do competitive gaming though. I'm coming at cross-play from a co-op perspective.

Is not every year is the best E3 ever?
Hardware launch years are usually the best but are few and far between. E3 2013 was genuinely intertaining as Sony ceased to be the clownish industry player and Microcost descended into chaos before our eyes.

This E3 ought to be a cake walk for Microsoft, they have a strong end of year line-up as well as Quantum Break early next year. Their competition have very little in the way of AAA titles this year, unless there are some genuine surprises. I expect to see a confident Phil Spencer rather than a defensive Phil Spencer. Games are what copnsoles are for and Microsoft have a bunch of compelling titles, balanced across old and new franchies alike.
