News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

One question to the X1 pros: I downloaded Sunset Overdrive. The status of the download was presented in percentage. But I could not find where I can see my actual rate of download and the estimated end time of my download??

Furthermore, the download bar got stuck at 24%...but I could play the game without problems when I tried to hit A button.

The UI is very non-intuitive to me (I am not using kinect) and did cause me some troubles.

Further, when I included a credit card to my account, I wanted to change my address and phone number...but it froze during those changes and I had to redo the process...until I decided to leave my old address, because it froze everytime I wanted to put in my phone number.

After several month of not using the X1 (only played Ryse so far)...it sure was a rough start and the weird UI didn't help.

I hope they improve the experience for non-kinect users in future.

The whole country/language setting screws up any shop transaction for me so I only go through their web interface now. I can still remember my frustration to download a free Gold game on the XB1 where it wanted my CC and every time didn't accept it. While the same CC worked fine through their Webpage.

Do we have any idea on what Kinect sales are like these days? Any vague breakdown of Kinect bundles versus vanilla?
From reading around sounds like kinects are not selling individually very well. It's rather easy to buy a used one too.

While I don't know for sure; I imagine it would not be a surprise that the main SKU is kinectless.

If you have a PayPal account its worthwhile linking that. I basically use it exclusively on any MS transactions these days and it takes away the need for handling the details at the MS site.

I have a question about sharing games on XB1. Lets say someone signs in with his account on another console and downloads games on it, if he deletes that account later on, the games will be automatically deleted as well?

No. I think it gives the choice of basically purchasing the game to make the copy you have on your HDD available to use.

So in other words they will be unplayable until the main account is either readded on the secondary console or the game is purchased, right?

Some people use it to their advantage to buy games in the Russian store, the Indian store, etc etc, paying like half the cost of a game compared to the price of said game in the European store. They go as far as registering an actual Russian address for their credit cards, etc. I know people whose CC address is the address a butcher's. :D  Google maps/Bing maps are your friends.

Phil Spencer and his team are planning something very special for this year's E3.

Or you throw in a disc. I think the message is something like "You don't have permission to access content. Insert disc or purchase from the marketplace." Thats not verbatim but thats what I remember. It use to happen on my son's console when I try to play one of my games that I've previously downloaded but forgot to log in.

You can do sharing in a round about but more effective manner. You log in and make the secondary console you "home" console, which basically gives it access to all your titles without the need of your login.

Login behavior is pretty flexible on the xbox one. Once you initially login into a unit you can set it to automatically to login at startup or login after a logout without the need for a password, so you don't have to hand out your password. However, you can only be logged into one unit at a time. So if you are playing a game, if the person logs in with your account on a second unit it will automatically kick you out of your session, force you to kick them off and then completely reload the game. There is no warning on either end, so its not the most convenient way to share.

I might be mistake but setting a secondary as your primary avoids that circumstance because access is tied to your primary machine as well as your login. In fact I am pretty sure that how it works because I've have played GTA multiplayer with a guest using only my license. I allowed them to play my char while I temporarily allowed my son's account to have access and started a fresh char under his account.

I didn't get a chance to try it last year, but I'll be checking this out come Thursday. If it isn't up to snuff, I'll probably switch over to ESPN via Sling on the Xb1 anyway. I haven't watched ESPN (no cable) in quite sometime, but I seem to remember their commentators a bit more favorably than the NFL Network (which has always put the draft online streaming for free if I remember correctly).

Wireless Display App is available in the Preview...

The Wireless Display app is here! This app that allows you to project your favorite device screen to your TV through the Xbox.

The Wireless Display app uses Miracast, which quite a few devices support to mirror or extend your screen, wirelessly. You may already have a device that you can project from, so give it a try!

HOW TO GET THE WIRELESS DISPLAY APP

  • You can get the Wireless Display app via the Quest titled "Extend your screen." Start the quest to be taken to the Xbox Store page to start your download. Once it's finished you can launch the quest again to launch the app and start working through the scenarios we'd love for you to try.
HOW TO USE THE WIRELESS DISPLAY APP

  • Launch the app, you will see your Xbox name on the screen, ready for a connection. Use your device interface to project your screen, mirror your screen or share your screen. Select your Xbox and voila!

  • If you need to change the name of your console, try using the app settings menu which has a link to your console’s settings and change the name there.
FEEDBACK AND SUPPORT

  • If you encounter a bug or issue while using the Wireless Display preview app, please use the Report a problem feature of the Preview Dashboard app. As a reminder, you can access this by holding your Xbox button on your controller and choose "Report a problem."

  • Please include the device model and operating system version when providing feedback.
KNOWN ISSUES

  • Projection of premium content is not supported. Projecting from apps like Netflix or Hulu+ will be blocked by your device as this is protected content.

  • Devices that enable HDCP protection at all times will not be able to project. like: Samsung Galaxy S3, S4, Note 2 and Sony Xperia Z Ultra.

  • In some instances you may need to remove your Console from your device’s display list in order to reconnect.

  • iOS devices do not support Miracast.

Been testing the past hour... it works perfectly. Been waiting for this since launch... awesomeness... no need to use the crappy build-it browser with the gameplay!

Very cool. I can't wait until I have time to give this a try. And while I don't have any Android devices, in theory you can also play your Android games on your TV through the XBO as well, on supported devices.

SB

Interesting, so then is it feasible to stream games from the PC? Would they be playable.?

It's one-way only afaik, so that's the downside? You wouldn't be able to control much?

I think my TV has this built in - haven't used it much yet, but did manage to play a video from PC to the TV iirc.
