News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

Didn't know Fast and Furious was stand alone. Cool, downloaded it.

I wouldn't have bothered, even as a free stand alone, because I don't care for driving games. But after reading so many reviews saying how great it was and how it made them actually buy Horizons2, etc.. I briefly tried it out.

I don't get it. Outside of the annoying 1-2 minute commercial for F&F you have to watch before being able to play, it seems like every other driving game I've played ever. I didn't think the visuals were particularly stunning, and the entire experience was just kinda "huh. okay, it's a driving game. Right, I remember why I don't like them." and then I turned it off.

It's free, so you can't complain. But if you don't particularly like driving games, I don't see the point. And if you do like driving games, I'd imagine you'd already have Forza on the Xb1 (or Gran Turismo on the PS4, etc).

I think I'll probably enjoy that pool game a lot more! :D

I havent been following, but Neverwinter is a Dungeons & Dragons style MMORPG game that is free on the Xbox One. Is this a FreeToPlay style game? Store link: http://store.xbox.com/en-us/Xbox-One/Games/Neverwinter/0b94d2a2-180b-4b80-a157-2e396d567cb2

The content is 10.5 GB.
Thx! I dloaded it already. I'm not into MMORPGs tbh, but it's free and like @RancidLunchmeat I can't express unhappiness. :D

My only problem is the lack of space so I tried it then removed it to make space, but that's my gamer's life right now. Too many games in my XOne HD.

Go buy a cheap 50 USD 500GB - 1TB external HDD. If that's too small, 100 USD gets you 2 - 3 TB external HDDs (and sometimes 4 TB if you don't mind Seagate drives).

So I just found out today that the XB1 had a TWC app this whole time and I didn't even know about it. I was so excited because I thought I finally did not have to turn on my 360 to watch live tv. But it looks like the app on the XB1 does not support live tv. :(

It does give you the option to watch the latest episodes of TV shows like Mad Men or Better Call Saul. I guess that's a plus. But still disappointed there is no live tv.

Thanks for the suggestions. What's with Seagate drives? Just curious....

I have despaired of adding a new HD, and I felt forced to delete some decent games -NBA 2k14 (I have 15, so...), Forza 4, NBA Live 14, Neverwinter, Dark Dreams don't die, CoD: Ghosts, and some others-, yet the HD of my X1 only has 10GB of free space, and I shall make space for Wasteland 2 and other great games.

I found this article on a external hard drive for the PC and Xbox One.

I made my own. I used an external 3.5" sata to usb3 enclosure that was all of $20 shipped from Amazon then I used a 4TB I wasn't currently using from my fileserver. It has its own power plug, but the xbox one console will turn it off when the console isn't on.

I thought I read that if you have the console shut off the attached HDD then you can't do any downloads through Xbox.com or Smartglass as the entire console is off and there's nothing to save the updates to?

My WD MyBook has an external power source as well, but I have it always left on, so it doesn't shut off when the console goes 'to sleep' or whatever mode it goes into so you can still schedule downloads and wake with 'Xbox On'.

So yes, I guess I'm one of those people paying an extra $12/year in electricity because of my power hogging console. :devilish:

Hrm, well I will have to look into that a bit more. I always have the fast resume enabled for that reason (enabling updates remotely). I dont mind the external drive being always on, I just wanted to try out the external power control as i wasnt sure it worked on external power brick hdds or if it only works on portable drives which leech power over usb.

This might explain why a friend had to download an update for Borderlands despite having auto updates enabled.

My games never auto-update ...

Mine mostly auto-update. There been very few times where I've had it go through the "This game requires an Update" process. I had it happen last week with Project Spark and also had the console go through a full cold-boot on Sunday. The cold boot was odd, but I think that was related to the external drive power setting. I have the console set to instant-on and now also have the external drive set to always on. I'm hoping that takes care of my issue(s) now.

It probably helps that I'm sitting on a 150-180 mbit network too.

Never? Do you use external storage? Can you check the light on your power brick to make sure it is white and not orange?

Are you sure you re not turning off the console by hitting the power button? That turns it completely off.

When is the last time you turned it off with the power button to do a complete reset?

The only other culprit I can think of would be timing. The auto updates are scheduled, so it is possible that an update will be available and not yet downloaded when you go to play, but that should not be the case every time! If the console hasnt finished downloading or fully installing the update when you go to play you will also get the update and message and all disc games will always give you that message and make you put the disc in to finish the update.

Hope something there helps, it should be updating automatically within those parameters anyway.

Not sure if this is the place for it, but my X1 does this weird thing every so often where coming out of standby (I think it's just standby but dont even know) the picture will be all scrambled. To fix it I do a hard reset (power button shutoff).

Almost seems like a HDMI handshake issue to me.

It doesn't seem to be increasing in frequency or anything. Maybe does it once a week?

Given my Destiny addiction dont really want to send it in (although I just remembered for 15 bucks MS will cross ship you a replacement IIRC, would still be a big pain re downloading everything)

Also my X1 has been kind of loud with a bit of a "whirring" noise, and if you place your hand on it you can feel what I'd call more than normal vibration. Clearly it's a fan with a wobbly bearing. But it's not a big enough problem to send in either, but I feel like I should before the one year warranty is up. At the time I bought it with Kinect and all and two years of live it was close to $600, and I feel like the thing should be perfect for that.

Also had one controller wear out (stick drift) but I guess I cant complain after 500 hours of Destiny. And then the first replacement I bought had really loud rumble motors so I had to return it. The 2nd replacement that I now have kind of has a loud rumble too imo, but I decided it's acceptable.

None of those things sound like normal operating conditions to me, Ranger. I would look at getting it replaced while it is still under warranty.

Especially the console noise, which I have heard is the reason there have been so many refurbs available. Typically people now only complain about a noisy powerbrick.

I know this is dumb but have you tried a different hdmi port on the TV or swapping hdmi cables around?

Xbox should shutdown internal HDD when sleeping too. When it needs to download something it powers on everything except TV.

I use the internal drive. My console auto-updates the OS for the preview program without any issue. But as far as I can tell I've always been prompted to update my games whenever I've known a patch was released. I just thought that's how Xbox One worked. All of my games are digital, so there shouldn't be any disc issues. To turn off, I use the voice command.
