mzybe they try to push peole to buy for the multiplayer portion?

like the TITANFALL 24 hours game-time offer. You play for free and the SP will finish in just 3 hours (i think). Then those that like titanfall will pay for keep playing MP.

but... it is realy depend on the game. If they give Rise of Tomb Raider for free for 24 hours and people complete the SP. Do they really want to pay only for the MP? O_O

I believe the original point was giving 24 hours of access to a game that only takes 3 to 7 hours to complete doesn't make a lot of sense simply bc you could finish it before the complimentary access is over. Hence how do you effectively monetize a scenario like that?

Money is still being collected console side in terms of psn/live fees, so perhaps there are arrangements in place to financially compensate developers that participate in this. Like orangpelupa said you may still want to buy the game to play multi player, or to finish it again, to get more achievements, or it can all just serve as a way to discover this new developer or that this ip that they would not have purchased before is actually really good and they will come back and buy the sequel. You can look at it as a way to get to the front of the pack as far as exposure goes in an ever crowded gaming field.

Something similar has been done in the mobile world for some time now. It's notoriously difficult to get noticed there so games will sometimes do "We are free for 3 days" type sales. Now suddenly a game that no one even knew about because it was buried among a ton of others gets high exposure and visibility and people are trying it and talking about it. Then when the free sale is over they see a boost of sales from the added exposure, download ranking on the app stores, water cooler talk or whatever.

Those are all good points, I'd add potential DLC purchases. I was simply articulating what I believe is the original question/comment.

What was the conclusion?

There was nothing in there about the consoles, just literally a long boring article about what is and isn't click bait - and apparently an article which talks about something totally unrelated to the title isn't click bait if it's making a valid point - which it wasn't.

Maybe they aren't particularly motivated to move as many kinect units as possible. I don't think the pricing is because they are stuck between a rock and a hard place, in that they need to make the kinect bundled xbox one console for 499 seem like a percieved value, and because they are trying to prevent the decline in sales of the xbox bundles containing the kinect.

If the price truly is a function of the bundle and the bundle can't officially fall in price to sell standalone Kinect at around $100.00 they got a problem on their hands. Of course this would be MSR so it's possible it retails for less.

Kinect standalone going on sale in October for $149.00... thoughts....

Genius. By pricing it at $50 more than the Xbox/Kinect bundle they make the bundle look more attractive in terms of value - regardless of actual utility.

Informed consumers/gamers will know better but I think informed purchasers are probably in the minority.

Oh MS are such clever bastards. They are selling it for $149 to create a sense of value for the $499 Kinect bundle ;)

People that want it will pay, people that don't probably wouldn't have bought it anyway.

The Kinect bundles cost so little extra that it's worth getting Kinect with your bone just in case there are any good games that use it, and in case you ever need to be able to control your telly without your hands 'cos you break them both ragetyping at people on the interwebs.

Original k was 150 as well. Was it?

Anyway the second hand market will be flooded with k2
If kinect content is a must have down the live of XO you could buy it for cheap
