It seems that Microsoft wants smaller Kinect for XB1 or their mobile hardwares/Fortaleza project.

The Xbox team within Microsoft Devices and Studios envisions, creates and manufactures the award winning Xbox gaming and entertainment platform. The team that revolutionized the gaming and entertainment world by designing and delivering the Xbox One Kinect and Accessories is a progressive, diverse, and exceptionally creative group of professionals. We pride ourselves on a high energy, high impact work environment that empowers everyone to do their very best work.
Are you passionate about cutting edge technology? Do you want to be part of the core development team for some of the most exciting hardware that defines the new revolutionary way to play games?

The Microsoft XBox Kinect team is looking for a Senior Optical Engineer with expertise in the area of optical design. The candidate will drive the design of optical systems, sub-systems and components into high volume consumer products and will have demonstrated experience in designing, modeling and shipping complex opto-mechanical assemblies and imaging systems.

As a successful candidate, you enjoy leading cross functional teams and driving system-level and sub-system designs through fast-paced product development cycles. A strong mix of technical breadth and depth allow you to work cross-functionally to incorporate your optical designs with complex mechanical assemblies, image sensors, electronics and software to bring to life compelling and innovative user experiences. Walking into a large retail store and seeing a product on the shelf that you’ve taken end-to-end, from concept through detailed design and into high-volume manufacture, drives and excites you.

Your work experience includes a minimum of four years in optical product design, with at least two years in the consumer product industry designing optical systems. You are knowledgeable with the optical, material, thermal and reliability properties of plastic and glass. Additionally, you are expert in the design and modeling of injection molded opto-mechanical parts, including lenses, diffractive optics and camera modules.

As an expert in optics, you are well-versed in: the optical properties of CMOS image sensors; lens design fundamentals including aberration theory; the physics of light propagation and diffraction; polarization; stray light mitigation and the scattering and interaction of light from various surfaces and materials.

A track record of innovation and experience in selecting material and components to achieve cost targets is desired. The establishment of specifications and written test plans, including the development of test procedures to verify your opto-mechanical designs are integral to the position.

An ability to manage complex projects and CM’s, against development timeline needs, is required, and your excellent communication skills allow you to work seamlessly with teams across various engineering functions and geographies. As such, you are willing to travel internationally at times to support design and manufacturing activities.

...Fusion is built with a cross-gen engine that doesn't take full advantage of nextgen hardware. It was in one of the threads where people were bitching and moaning about the quality (aka resolution) and performance of launch titles.
Yes, I said that no launch game is using the next gen hardware fully yet. This is not a surprise by any means (as it has repeated every single console generation). This is even more true for cross-generation games that need to support last generation consoles as well. You will definitely see a big improvement in hardware utilization once the second generation of big games arrive in a few years. Teams will have much more experience in the new hardware on their second games, and the extra freedom offered by being able to drop support for DirectX 10 PCs and last generation consoles will allow some really interesting rendering techniques (that offer huge performance gains). I expect to see even bigger leap during this generation that we saw during last generation.

mosen, that sounds promising.

In you we trust, this is a most fascinating generation, because of all the things that happened and are happening.

I remember a similar post of yours, worded completely different. I wonder what you could do with these machines.

Like the Heroes of Might and Magic IV song goes, we are still "Searching for a dream". And this can be accomplished now with the new consoles.

Microsoft to launch in China in July, expects to sell 100k consoles (unclear to me if this is launch or what)

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2014-04-16-xbox-one-expected-to-sell-100k-in-china-report

The Xbox One is expected to sell 100,000 units in China, where it is scheduled to launch in July.

That forecast was revealed by BesTV, the Chinese media company that Microsoft has partnered with to tackle the country's emerging console market.

BesTV also suggested that Xbox One games will cheaper in China than in more established markets - comparatively, at least. A new Xbox One game will retail for around 300 RMB - equivalent to $48 - but the joint venture would create content for a variety of business models.

The Chinese government announced plans to relax its decade-long console ban in September last year. So far, Microsoft has been more aggressive than both Sony and Nintendo in its plans for the new market.

Activision indefinitely postpones Xbox One version of The Amazing Spider-Man 2

If anybody was looking forward to playing The Amazing Spider-Man 2 on Xbox One (probably not as there's not even a thread for this game - and it looks like ass!), Eurogamer are reporting the Xbox One versions has been indefinitely delayed. Still shipping on 360 though.

From the same article:

“We are working with Microsoft in an effort to release The Amazing Spider-Man 2 video game on Xbox One"

But it is weird.

Yup. And the dev tweeted on 13 April that it was running at 1080p and 30fps on both nextgen platforms. Really weird. Let the idle and pointless speculation begin! Nah, I'm kidding, let's talk about something interesting instead.

They're clearly delaying the XO version intentionally to sell more 360s. Such devious.

Major Nelson is already thinking about E3 :p

I am very looking forward to Microsoft's E3 event. It's not just new Xbox management, it's a new Microsoft.

Major Nelson is already thinking about E3 :p
Phil Spencer too.

He has stated in a series of tweets:

“Its going to be Huge, important show for us. Bringing more than hype, bringing games.”

“More excited than nervous. The Xbox team is working hard to make the show great.”
He also said regarding new features for the Xbox One:

We will be talking about our monthly updates going into E3, I'm spending a lot of time with team lately prioritizing features.
We may also hear about State of Decay in the upcoming months:

SoD is important to us. @undeadlabs has a good plan for the franchise and it's bigger than a DLC expansion.
On Xbox owners:

Really happy to see all the games XBOX owners are buying, really appreciate the support.
About the competition in the console world:

Definitely in to win. We need to do more, that's 100% of my focus.

It would be very good if they announce Universal Games for PC/XB1 (small/Indie games) with one time purchase option. It would have much benefits for both PC and console gamers.

The only reason they'd move to ddr4 is because its cheaper or near the price of ddr3. While im sure consumers appreciate the extra power saving lpddr4 could provide, its not a reason 99% of consumers go from being on the fence to purchasing an Xbox over a pc/ps4.

I don't think we'll see a change in memory in the second iteration, but maybe the third one? It's going to be fun to follow, because I don't think any other console in history have changed ram interface midway into the life cycle. It can't be an easy thing to do for the engineers, but maybe it was the plan from the start...

DDR4 won't reach price parity with DDR3 for at least another 2 years. (the HBM path for Sony looks much worse).

DDR3-2133 is the most expensive available (allegedly $60 for 8GB) because it's the top bin.

So if they move to DDR4 they'll need 4266, which is also the top bin, and won't be available in large volume anytime soon, let alone for less than DDR3-2133. If they want to lower the price ASAP, there's an elephant in the depth-sensed room.

Xbone GPU has about 70% of the roar powah (flops) of the PS4, and Trials runs at about 70% of the resolution of the PS4 version. Both are locked at 60 fps.

This means that Red Lynx aren't being particularly held back by the 16 ROPs (or at least, no more than by ALU) and that they aren't being particularly held back by the the split memory pools or esram.

This is pretty damn cool, and by these metrics they're doing better than anyone else with a 60 fps multiplatform game to date. And if the Xbone is at this time still left with a 10% GPU reservation ....

Basically: Sebbbi for president.

Do we know for sure the game is ALU bound and not ROP bound?

Because, having glancing over the game and taking in account the setup (60 fps, deferred rendering, some apparently full red explosions and smoke, with dynamic shadows everywhere) I can definitely see this game being ROP bound on Xbox one... It also doesn't invalidate the Ps4's gpu advantage in that regard, on that platform they might not be ROP bound, or really not even have a particular bottleneck, as they managed to hit it was likely their target with 1080 and 60fps.

Do we know for sure the game is ALU bound and not ROP bound?

No, we don't. I was playing the most dangerous of games and making an assumption. I've asked sebbbi in the DF thread whether this is the case. Hopefully this isn't privileged info and he'll be able to answer ...
