News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

For this command try it without any pause between "xbox" and "on", and also do not use "turn on". I had some hit and miss when I thought it was "xbox turn on" or "xbox, on" instead of "xbox on". At least that's what is working for me all the time now.

I've tried switching the cadence using no pause, short pause, long pause between xbox and on, but no matter what I try I can't get anything consistent. It's weird because my success rate in the UI is very very high.

I don't think "Xbox on" works either, but I'll keep dicking with it. It's strange because every other voice command works flawlessly (so far).

Scott, let's go wreck some fools in BF4!

Have you looked at the power settings.

There seems to two different settings in two different areas. One where you can you change it from instant on to energy saving mode where energy saving disables the xbox on feature. And a second set which dictates which components are switched on when the xbox is turned on.

I think one is access through the setting menu using the start button when in Live TV mode and one is access through the settings/power settings menu through the Home interface.

TV seems buggy for some users and some of it comes down to the fact the setup walk through is not thorough enough. Your STB settings can effect the XB1's ability to properly passthrough the TV signal. You shouldn't have to go to the Xbox One troubleshooting section on the internet to discover such issues.

For whatever reason I couldn't get it to work at all initially, but then it started working.

Perhaps coincidentally just before it started working I managed to get my kinect into a state where it would not power on, I disconnected the kinect and the power to the XBox and it appears to be fine since reconnecting.

Could also just be me learning the right cadence or the XBox learning my voice, hard to tell really, but I'd try disconnecting the Kinect and removing power from the XBox for a say 10 seconds before reconnecting everything.

Weird, I have not had a problem with this command, seems to take a few seconds before anything really starts to click to life as it turns on my AVR and projector.

Okay, I power cycled the Bone and my sat receiver, and "Xbox on" seems to turn the system on now. Also, I jiggled my HDMI cables into the Bone and my AVR, and the TV functionality started to work. Not sure what that means. There is a very slight amount of red "noise" in the background of the picture, so I might just buy new HDMI cables in case one is bad. Picture quality is definitely degraded.

PSN may have been compromised in some way, potentially related to FIFA. There was some issue with FIFA on 360 where people where buying ultimate team stuff on other people's accounts. I don't know how it works, but if you play FIFA you may want to change your password. Or maybe just change your password anyways, just in case ... Oh, and throw your copy of FIFA in the garbage. I'd also recommend Xbox One users that have FIFA chuck the game, or at least stay away from Ultimate Team entirely. This is the second time around with these issues from FIFA, and people getting money charged on their accounts. If they've provided a backdoor into PSN and Live, they don't deserve a third chance.

Crap. I swapped in a new HDMI cable to see if it would clear up the noisy picture, now nothing works. The Bone won't even recognize the sat signal. This whole TV thing has thus far been a debacle. I'm guessing my Bone's TV In circuitry might be defective.

How is everyone else's TV functionality working?

Edit:
Oh yeah, speaking of EA garbage, BF4 really sucks balls. Played a couple of hours earlier today and it felt just like Call of Duty. Certainly not the BF game play I remember. The BF franchise has gone down the toilet since BC2 imo.

I would try another HDMI device like 360, DVD or Bluray player. Need to see if it's your satellite receiver that's causing the problem.

Do you have the BETA Surround Sound setting in TV group enabled or disabled?

Well, when I bypass the Bone and run the sat receiver into my AVR it works perfectly. Nice clean picture. I really think it's the Bone. I'm not sure if it's software or hardware, but it's definitely the Bone. I guess I could try another video source on the TV In, but during setup you need to specify what is hooked up to TV In. It's looking for either a cable or sat signal.

I don't have the Beta Surround Sound box checked.

Red or green noise is usually a function of signal degradation, generally too long or a poor quality cable.
Haven't tried passing anything through my XB1 yet.

the first two hdmi cables that I tried In, did not show a picture at all.

Swapped out for third, newer cable and been perfect since.... although I know some people have weak sleeve in hdmi in port and the cable comes loose too

BTW, I was concerned about lag and possible picture degradation and removed the hdmi in to my avr and skipped right to tv and ran optical from bone to avr.... running surround beta as well with no issues on Onkyo ht

Okay, it looks like the HDMI cable that came with the Bone is bad. I swapped it (after swapping all my other HDMI cables ) with another new cable, and BAM . . . perfect picture quality!

This is most peculiar and contradicts everything I know about HDMI. HDMI is supposedly 100% digital and shouldn't ever suffer the type of signal degradation issues common to analogue cables. If the signal isn't being received 100% as sent and isn't being a) being detected and b) is beyond error correction and data redundancy system to restore, surely this suggests the HDMI implementation at one (or both) ends of the cable aren't doing their jobs properly? :???:

Isn't 100% signal integrity the point of HDMI?

Digital signals can be degraded whether HDMI, or for the matter DVI. As long as the clock is good, you'll get a stable image, I don't think either digital format attempts to correct errors, so it just displays them.
Long DVI cables commonly seem to add green noise at higher resolutions, but it could be any color channel affected, 3D vision on PC is notoriously picky about cables because of the 120Hz requirement.

I've found the reference to error correction and error reduction in the HMDI 1.3 spec. I'm sure it was in there in revision 1.2 if not earlier. Pages 62-64 refer - BCE ECC is used although it may not apply to all data packets.

For those new Xbox One owners, here's a typical deal for 12 months of XBox Live Gold for $40. This one is via eBay from NewEgg: $40 - Xbox Live 12 Months. Limit is 5 per customers.
