News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

So that's another source confirming that the "family share" feature was hugely gimped sharing.

Well wouldn't that have worth giving up private game ownership, private reselling, private gifting, and genuine none-gimped game-lending for ...

I think the MS/DRM cheerleaders should be grateful to those that made it clear to MS that they were going to clench. And the MS/DRM cheerleaders should also thank you base Sony for giving customers a choice that would force MS to react.

Even if you end up buying a Xbone, the PS4 is probably the best thing that happened to you this generation.

New rumor: "No kinect required":

"BREAKING: @Xbox media relations confirms to me via email that #kinect sensor IS NOT required for #XboxOne. #privacy #drm #prism #microsoft"

@NicholasGigante it was confirmed to me by @Xbox media relations that Kinect is not required to be connected

Doesn't sourcing from pastbin mean the source count remains 1?
I didn't see any mention of them corroborating, just parroting.

I took this bit: "but sources familiar with Microsoft's Xbox plans have revealed to The Verge" to mean that they had their own independent sources, but I might be giving them too much credit.

Like him or not, CBOAT is source too (and usually though not always right, going by the examples listed on NeoGaf).

I'm going to assume they were able to corroborate at least the idea that it was being discussed, based on that.

I have no opinion on CBOAT. Well, mostly. The obfuscation of the messages is so heavy that it's often more a Rorschach test for the interpreters, so I find it all a little funny.

LOL!

MS is certainly working to erase all the boneheaded decisions they've made... Now they need to follow this up with the following:

BREAKING: $499 no longer required - new MSRP $349 ;)

Not an easy proposition charging more than the competition with inferior hardware.

FTR: It still wouldn't sway me, but I'm sure many other gamers would cave.

No Kinect would be stupid IMO. It removes the USP. XB1 just becomes yet-another-console, serving up the same games as PS4. The only difference will be exclusives. It'll be this gen all over, only stupider because the consoles will be even similar. At the point, surely the industry would be better with just one device? I say to MS, sod the entitled gamers and their stupid whinging, sell your product as you envisioned.

I thought Microsoft had already moved to clarify some things by outlining the privacy settings that could turn off the camera.

I can see from a reliability angle that it would be nice if the console would at least boot up and allow access to functions that don't require Kinect, in the case the Kinect breaks.
While it is true that having no controllers could be a problem as well, there's a greater likelihood of having a spare controller and quite likely the controllers are cheaper and more likely to be in stock if you need to go out and buy one in a pinch.

not really, since it was no big deal either way.

if family sharing was gimped then I think i'm on board with the no drm though. still worried about cloud etc.

well if kinect is included in every console, i dont think there's much difference. i dont see this rumor on neogaf so i dont think it's true, but if it was i assume it would just be to appease all the so called privacy worryers.

i sort of agree with your point, it's the same reason i was kind of sad to see 24 hr check in go. that 24 hr check basically established an online console.

if they want to go all the way with this then they'd need to do a 399 kinect free sku. they quite possibly should have done that from the beginning, i suspect their sales would be a lot higher.

but kinect allows a lot of cool stuff, especially voice recognition, that could pay off in sales over time. we'll have to see.

Yes. It's just monkeys parroting the same false rumor. There is only 1 source for it. All the others are posting their reaction and covering that same single-source false rumor.

New rumor: "No kinect required":

Just like the other false rumor, this too has already been refuted as false from Microsoft.

Kinect is an integral part of the Xbox One system. It's not going away.

Now they just need to do another reveal and leave out all the 'console of the future' talk. After all this is now the XBox180 the XBox360 v2.0 but with less going for it this generation than the 360 had. No year head start, no overpriced competition, no hardware advantage...

I guess they will still get good traction in the American market but if they continue to devalue the USP then they will be dependant on exclusive content and first party support. Of course they will buy this kind of support as they can, but it could start to be a very costly generation for them.

Kinect is one of the things that make the console have soul, as Shifty said. Microsoft reiterated yesterday in their press conference that Kinect is integral part of the system.

I can understand how it can be powered on and off though. And you have to take into account that if Kinect stops working for whatever reason having the console not working either wouldn't be fair.

Kinect has to be universal, or we will be doomed to dance titles and 3rd party titles that need serious financial help from Microsoft to be released -back to Kinect 1 again-. No thanks, please. :???:

I am going to create a thread on the revolutionary, unique experiences the new approach of Kinect + Xbox One can provide -might include the PS4 and WiiU-.

They exist but we haven't been talking about games but DRM, which is a dead horse now.
