News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

The thing is Proelite gets his info 2nd or 3rd hand from within MS, not from third party devs.

I don't know where the other insiders get their info from but it could well be that the GAF insiders have info from within MS even devs don't know as of yet.

It was a similar case with the 8GB GDDR5 for PS4 rumours where devs didn't know but GAF insiders were in the loop?

I think you just really want a downclock to be true :p

Proelite has been so spotty, give me a break. He's only had correct info like, at a brief moment in time. Outside that moment he's been downright stupid.

I mean at times the Durango was a supercomputer by him and boy were we in for a shock...then the next minute it had less power than a TI calculator, and back and forth between the two

Nope. He said Dead Rising 3 was going to be revealed and an MS exclusive a looong time ago I think. Probably even he said it would be at last E3 I think? Still hasnt happened if it will.

That was his major snafu AFAIK.

I was trying to remember if he was a NPD leaker and thought he was...good to see it confirmed and my brain isn't totally retarded. I seem to remember those times.

Doesn't mean that wasn't true at that time he posted it. Guys in the 8-4 play podcast even talk about him on the podcast this week. One of the guys knows him in real life.

I heard Durango GPU is clocked at 1400 mhz. When I'm wrong, it's just true at the time I posted it

Seriously, it's amazing how people will rationalize things.

Uh-oh...better be careful sounds like a good way somebody can identify him.

Somebody on a NSFW forum allegedly figured out who he is, forgot the user.

(But I think it's BS)

Now what's somebody from the videogame industry doing on a NSFW forum... Uh...:p

I can see having some minor gripes with the licensing. Really, it's not particularly unfair. Only problem I have is the private person-to-person game sales being restricted because of the "30 day friend" requirement. It isn't a dealbreaker though. I'll just have to consider that my return on a game I'm finished with might be a bit lower than it was before.

I get it though, when you're done with a game you can give it to a "real" friend. For strangers, publishers can choose to take a cut, but your best buddy, you guys are cool and can swap games and stuff.

@Reiko - the problem with not having a 24hr check is:

*buy a game a return it, play for free until the timer hits. Even the current limit could allow this, speed gaming!
* blu-ray is slow so games would be limited again
* people hated DVD or multiple DVD games and wanted something better
* DD is not for everyone, kills retail, etc
* proper size cartridges would be incredibly costly

In a sense ultimately to not stifle progress or have massive privacy you need a system that balances all the variables. Hard thing to do, I want to see how Sony handles it. My guess is mandatory install but keep disc in console to play offline. (based on a recent tweet that people will be partying at their e3)

It makes sense to me to go hybrid, while still having the benefits of X1 for if/when you want to go that route.

I just want to own my games:cry: It's a hard pill to swallow IMO.

I take it as you can only loan a game out once, but the game is still yours to play regardless. If my gamertag was not already online all day, I might log on at a friends and let them play under my account instead of loaning it.

Doesn't read that way:

Give your games to friends: Xbox One is designed so game publishers can enable you to give your disc-based games to your friends. There are no fees charged as part of these transfers. There are two requirements: you can only give them to people who have been on your friends list for at least 30 days and each game can only be given once.

Specifically mentions a transfer. There is no mention of loaning it, in fact "giving" is explicitly stated several times.

My impression was this was a form of gifting. Essentially transferring the license to them, clearly something you can only do once. It is not clear whether that friend can then gift it to someone else?!

Yeah, that's the impression I get from their direct statements.

Most places if not all dont allow returns of software out of shrink wrap, so point one is void.

Overall I see pluses and minuses. It's a big plus not to have to swap discs anymore for example, a very big one nobody speaks of. You also will get much better performance off of playing only from HDD and no worries about slow disc loading. Another very big plus (although not necessarily related to DRM I guess, this could be in place on 360 just fine). And to have your library accessible anywhere. But there are the minuses already mentioned by others.

No, then his response would have been the standard "We don't comment on rumors". The fact that he did not break out the standard response is quite telling.

As to CBOAT, from his previous posts, he's an industry insider, probably at EA. I call bull on him knowing anything about XB1 yields. Yield info would not even have been widely shared in the xbox org, someone from outside it would not be hearing anything about it. Heck, I was working on a low level hardware component, and I would not even be able to tell you the process of that component, never mind the yields.

End of the rumor.

Back to the tech talk

Yeah, that's the impression I get from their direct statements.

They said renting and lending games are not supported at launch.
So yeah, it's a transfer of your license to someone else.

Yes its very "amazing,"

We are here for you to get through these tough times ahead! :p

PC gaming looking better by the day....

Correct, but there are still places and wow would they pick up in business (sort of..lol) Add in rental kiosks, to this check for example if rentals are allowed. So just all these variables you have to take into account and handle, truly a pain to please everyone (publishers, devs, customers, retail outlets, etc.) What a nightmare really, again I want to see how Sony has handled it.

Sorry I thought I saw something about lending, but when I read it all again it was pretty clear that you can gift a game only once. If it becomes theirs to gift I guess it can only be gifted to someone else? Want to know more about this.

The lending to friends can be handled by simply logging in under your account. So I can see abuse here (not in my eyes until a better system is in place) with lots of shared accounts. Netflix is the same way, just has the devices limit for example. So will our gamertag have a Zune like limit of only 4-devices? With a 30-day cooling off period for dropping a device and then adding one back?

Just got an email from GameStop covering some of these items as well, part of their be the first to know pre-order deal.

neogaf is banning people who's not disagree? WTF?

Under the guise of they are paid MS shills in most cases it looks like.

Actually, thinking about it. What would make the most sense for a 24hr check in?

To verify ownership? Sure, but you could do that while also giving exceptions for longer internet outages and still be almost as effective.

So, what usually happens in 24 hour increments? Rentals.

This might be there to specifically accommodate rentals where you want to make sure to deactivate a copy after the rental period is over.

Throw in that the publishers can negotiate a fee for this means that it'll be easier for publishers to get a cut of rentals as well as used games.

If the period was longer than 24 hours. A person could easily rent a game for a day. And just keep their console offline until they finished it.

24 hours just fits the rental model so well that it seems tailor made for just that use case.

Yep. Shills (Employees) and the most vocal hardcore Xbox fans.

I'm surprised statham and Derfeef isn't posting.

Dopeyfish was banned too.

Not all of them are shills. GAF is against anti consumer practices so Bish is cleaning house.

Used games determined by publisher, participating retailers only.

It seems as though you won't be able to sell it on Ebay or anything like that. And by limiting which retailers can accept used Xbox One games, they can monopolize it even further and potentially offer you even less money than Gamestop normally would have because they know there's literally nothing else you can do with it.

Well, there it is, 100% total control over distribution, even on disc games. Not to mention a database tracking everything you do with that software.

And since it's publisher driven, likely to be the same for Sony as well. So I'm going to guess you won't be buying either console. And PC, smartphone, and tablet gaming are out as well as you can't resell those games. :p
