News & Rumors: Xbox One (codename Durango)

I read 3.4B transistors for the ps4, and Microsoft claimed 5 billion transistors for xbone.

I think the 5B number included pretty much everything bundled with the console, which includes the Kinect 2's dedicated microcontroller (and maybe the RAM too?).

But with the whopping 1.6B transistors required for the eSRAM, it should be a safe bet to say the xbone's SoC is larger than the ps4's one.

It's safe to say it has more transistors, but if those 1.6B transistors are crammed into the same area as 500M gpu logic transistors it becomes a bit more muddy.

<edit> much is the word I was taking issue with from DJ12s post. I expect them to be within 10% or so.

If this is true their only hope is the ESRAM makes the GPU perform about 50% better per flop.

I still somewhat have my doubts. I think third parties would abandon them if this is true. There's just no other way to read it. You cant make the same game on two platforms so far apart in power.

Bad sales are the only metric that would make 3rd parties abandon any platform.

Wise speech but it is difficult to sell a console with these arguments. Most xbox users are already very upset by the difference performance with the ps4 if it is confirmed that the gap has become even bigger MS can begin to hope for a miracle to be able to sell the xbox one ;)

If this downgrade happens it shouldn't be bought over PS4 on general principle alone. Especially more so if you're technically inclined at all. But marketing can triumph over technical details sometimes.

Any delay will cost them market share dearly. Underclock is probably the best choice in this situation. Release an upgraded box in the future.

so it's 800 flops-10%

so 720 gflops

it's not more powerful than 360 at 1080p.

it's closer to wii u than ps4.

my oldass hd 4890 utterly obliterates it. i think it's 1.3 tf, and mine is factory overclocked way beyond that. so my crap old 2009 pc is at least 2x-3x as powerful minimum as a near 2014 console supposed to last till 2021.

why bother with 8gb ram either? you dont have any flops. why bother with blu ray? why bother with kinect? you dont have enough power to push anything. do you even have enough to run the fancy TV ui?

this is shaping up to be a huge disaster.

If Crysis 3 can run on a PC with a HD7970 GE and another with a HD7790, that means it can be possible.. just with large differences in IQ settings.

However, the difference in visuals will probably be very noticeable.

Even if the performance is just half of what the PS4 can do, I don't believe that's enough for a WiiU-style developer boycott.

What could happen is Microsoft losing almost all of the core audience to the ps4 and be forced to live off casual games and TV stuff.
And casuals are an extremely unpredictable audience. One day they're all playing farmville and Wii, the next day they all left farmville and Wii to play Draw Something and Angry Birds, the next day they all quit Draw Something..
Depending on casuals for a full generation should be really risky.

Fucking pissed at MS right now. I don't want to play my beloved Xbox exlusive IP's on fucking WiiU.5. What makes it even harder in me is that this coming gen is probably my last seeing as I'm 22 now, losing interest in gaming and can't see myself playing games at 28-30. Way to go MS, you completely butchered your brand.

Oh and here's the real kicker, the PS4 might even be cheaper than Xbox One.

You'd be yet another x-xbox-gamer like myself jumping ship. Like you, I'm not looking forward to the controller transition, I always liked the xb360 gamepad ... but I refuse to spend top-dollar for such an under-performer that also happens to support anti-consumer policies.

The spec before the rumor was already shameful. Down-clock on top of it all? Really? No thanks.

Bad sales will accompany bad performance. If the down-clock is true, goodluck.

:

Where were you, and the 500 others, in the 5 million net arguments I've been in where everybody says power doesn't matter lol? You guys sure pick your spots and then disappear at all other times.

Some random gaffer a glimmer of hope?

From the little I know, the only thing affected by this will be the number of units available at launch. No changes in silicone, speed, or performance.

Not sure if my source is legit, though.

Again I find it odd no true big-time insider has said CLOCKS ARE DOWNGRADED.

Best thing MS could do at this point is double down on PC gamers. Every first party game needs to come out on the PC day and date with the xbone version.

Am I meant to take a guy seriously who writes like THAT??
That is why we writes like that so website dont quote him.

He was the source of the NPD data for years on gaf. The guy is 100% an insider. Whatever he post is fact.

No IF this is true best thing they could do is a year delay to double up the specs well beyond PS4.

It would be problematic but a better move than going with a console not more powerful than prior gen.

The ESRAM really seems to be biting them. Once Xbox goes down in flames WHY does Balmer still have a job?

This is just beyond laughable. Just put a Tegra 2 in it and call it a day.

Don't agree. Best thing Microsoft could do right now is announce at E3 that the Xbox One is actually their 360 Mini and announce a 3TF powerhouse of a console as their gaming machine.

.. Yeah.

Am I meant to take a guy seriously who writes like THAT??

He probably writes like that so that he won't get quoted by press and that google won't find his comments.

he's not 100%, i want to say there was something he was wrong on before in the past.

but he IS a legit Rangers-approved insider.

but he still left wiggle room on clocks which is super annoying at the least.

it's almost makes me wonder if the insiders know theres no downclocking but want to leave the impression there is to troll or fit in with the masses.
