New Oblivion PS3 Screens + Info

So after a year of extra development time the PS3 version is on par with the 360 version accept no normal maps on the ground? Wow great for the PS3 it takes an extra year to get similar results but still has some details stripped out.
Sad but true, from the very few screens i have seen of the pacthed 360 version (xbox gamers seem to have very little interest for this game) it's clear that the best version is the 360 one by a hair.
Same visuals, more normal mapping, anti aliasing, better lightning...

And a bit worse framerate and AF on ground textures (looks like AFx4 to me) and longer loading times. Tough decision if I had to choose one (though I'd probably go with PS3 version due to framerate and loadings).

Sorry for the quality, its a pic of Oblivion PS3 on my HDTV. It appears the ground is normal mapped to a point, that appears to be the "worn path" part of the road.

I can post more if needed, and once again, I apologize for the quality.

"And a bit worse framerate"

Here is a user comparison by someone who has both versions, he seems to think the frame rate is actually better on the 360. Viewing some of the comparison videos on game trailers I would agree with him.

At the least this points to frame rate either being similar and not a total slam dunk for the S3 version. Also given the recent history of multi-plat titles the PS3 versions seemed to have had frame rate issues when compared to the 360 versions.

But, as I mentioned earlier, the PS3 version of Oblivion is a definite technical improvement over the 360 edition. Even if you have the latest Xbox patch installed, this newest port holds an advantage with its quicker loading times (which are almost twice as fast as the 360's), fewer framerate hitches, sharper textures, a better draw distance, and a brighter overall picture.

Yes it is more like loading hitches on the xbox360 version and the draw distance is the same on both. I have an excellent shot of the draw distance for both version from video 2 (post it soon, my PC is busy right now!).

also i dont see any improvements, perhaps if i had played this game on PS3 few hours who knows.
All i see are screenshots and movies and they tell me X360 ver looks better not much but still better.
Imo its to much bullsh.. around and if u wanna know the truth u must try/see for yourself to be sure

Here are the shots to show the view distance and object draw distance, links are for same shots but in bigger size.

Interesting. That shot definatly looks normal mapped to me. Maybe it is all down to the time of day the shot is taken (i.e. where the light source is).

I didn't really fully enjoy Oblivion on my PC for several reasons. Frame rate kept dropping to the 10's and 20's even on a 7800GTX and no AA. The interface was built for a console and I did not like it compared to the MW interface. The movement control felt jumpy, like they didn't tune it for mouse use. Plus there were many nasty quest breaking bugs.

I played through it once, but didn't feel like doing all the side quests because of it's problems.

Now that they have had time to fix a lot of the bugs, if I hear the PS3 version has a pretty solid locked down frame rate at 30fps I might pick it up.

Thank you Kisuke, for clearing up the issue. Gamespot and gametrailers must have used an old build evidently. The final retail version seems to be normal mapped on the ground.

i think i would trust IGN over someones post on the "teamxbox" site.

as for the the ps3 version having "an extra year of development time", i doubt thats true. does anyone have any actual proof?
the only bit of info i have, is from an interview at SPoNG where Pete Hines was asked how much time he had to work specifically on the ps3 version, and he said since March 2006.

PS3 version from Kisuke.
Normal map is used heavily.

Thanks for the confirmation. So the issue was mostly the time of day used in the comparison videos. Good to hear that the developers havent neglected the PS3 version at all visually unlike the recent trends from others

It's weird. In this new comparison presenting gates of oblivion 360 version has actually better framerate:
http://www.gametrailers.com/player.php?id=18116&type=wmv&pl=game

I can't verify against the PS3 version which I haven't played, but the new patch on 360 definitely increased the frame rate considerably.

I just finished the game with 1000 achievement points - just in time for the Shivering Isles too ;) There is no escape from Oblivion !

Is Shivering Isles available for the PS3?

It is supposed to be incorporated in the PS3 Oblivion version.

I suspect thoose screenshots are from a PC hooked up to the TV. Check this link where Gamespot compares Oblivion PS3 vs Xbox360 in the same place and same time. Lack of normal map on the ground is clearly visible in the PS3 screenshots. :???:
