New cars?

I just about did this very thing when I was shopping around. I love the G35's, but they are built on the Z plateform which makes them pretty cramped on the inside. Just about there only drawbacks to. The G35 coupe is sweet, not as nice as the Z for me, but close.
Wait a tic!

Is the G35 basically a Z with a backseat?!?!?

SOLD!!!!!

Me and the wife both really want to get a Z, but we just can't find a way to justify a two-seater. I can justify a cramped 4 seater! :D

G35 Coupe 6MT: Accelerate with a 6-speed manual transmission with short throw shifter, Brembo brakes, 7-spoke 18" alloy wheels, and limited-slip rear differential.

$37k after options, I found my wife's new car. 8)

hey now that does look nice. i think i might actually get one if I had 37k on me.... :p

you do realize, though, that if you saved the money you would be making on a car payment and kept the one you have that's been paid off then you would be able to get a nicer car at a better price when you saved enough to pay for it in cash...

Yup, and if we finance it we'll be driving it next week or so. :)

but it costs you SOOO much to finance. wouldnt be better to just not be in debt and actually own your stuff? not to mention how much cheaper it would be...

The G35C is the car I might pick up as well. The interior is still a bit on the cheap end (it's metallicized plastic like what you find in Nissan) but it's fun to drive. It's got a great sound to it as well. Plus you can get the 18" wheel option for a steal (imo). I'm waiting a bit though as the G35 (sedan) got a small boost in HP that I expect to trickle down to the G35C soon.

As Russ points out, it's normally RWD so if you live in a crappy area, then consider the AWD version but NOT the 18" wheels. Or you can be really sporty and put on the 18" wheels for summer driving and plop on the 17"s for winter.

I would stay away from the Murano. Neat vehicle and the SVT is neat (though takes some getting used to) but they may have a problem with alternators dying (my brother used to be a tech for Nissan).

If you're looking at SUVs, perhaps the new Lexus Hybrid? I might check that out as well.

Well, if we get the G35C I doubt we'd be picking up two new vehicles to be honest. I think I'd keep one of the ones I got, but it'll be hard for me to choose which.

First I gotta see if my wife even likes the G35C, or if she's serious about new cars....I'm kind of hoping it's all just an exercise in mental masturbation.

A gallon is like 3.7-3.8 litres, I think... and yes Diesel cars are not very popular in the US. I think that's because of the outragesly low fuel prices that they practice there. On the other hand AFAIK US car owners don't have pay taxes proportional to the engine size and the pollution level of the car. I might be wrong here, but this explains why large engines are more popular than in other places...
AFAIK the US has some of the toughest emissions standards. Tougher than much of Europe for sure. Even large engines have to meet them. Taxes shouldn't be proportional to engine size. They should be proportional to fuel economy and in the US they are.

Think of an SUV as a salon (station wagon) that can tow things.

And yes, a large number of people (at least here in Austin) own boats, etc. and need the ability to tow things.

That would be 10% of SUV owners out there. Most SUV owners just need a car to go to work or the supermarket. They don't really need it.

Sorry, I just don't understand the attraction for trucks, when any normal car would do. They're ugly, waste a lot of gas, are much worse handling in curves and so... Maybe it's so that people can feel big, I don't know.
People don't need a lot of things yet we desire them anyway. I've noticed a lot SUV drivers don't care about performance or handling. What they do like is the interior space and the view from a high driver's seat. Of course with so many SUVs on the road they're back to the same problem of not being able to see over the vehicle in front of them.

The G35C is a really nice car, my sister has one. Funny thing is it even has a trunk!
Not much of one. Though they do drive nice.

Pffft! I was happy as heck just to see a backseat, any kind of trunk is pure bonus! :D

My wife didn't go ga-ga over the G35 though, she went back to Nissan and spent almost 2 hours playing around with different Z350 combos.....she really wants a Z350 I think. :?

I'd be REALLY hesitate about the Z350 (I was looking at those as well). They are damn sharp looking but many find the ride rough (there are packages that can adjust this somewhat). So after a bit of time, she may come to hate it. Ever thought about a short lease to see how you like it long term?

Nah, I figure go for a test drive and find out what they offer for our vehicles and then worry about if it is time to get serious. :)

A rough ride in a performance car isn't necessarily bad, some like to be able to feel every pebble in the road....helps ya better become one with the car. ;)

In terms of looks the 350Z has nice rear lights while the rear lights on the G35C looks kinda too big IMO. This was what my sister said too. She didn't like the rear lights of the G35C. OTOH I think the 350Z looks too much like a Porsche with lines.

My wife feels the same way - she wants her Z and nothing else. The G35 drove better than all but 1 car I test drove when looking around. The wife loved it, but decided it was to small. Which is why we decided on the Maxima for me and the Murano for her (haven't had a problem yet with the Murano). And of course, since we bought her such an expensive vehicle, I couldn't get my A6.

Next car will be a Z though - she's already saving her pennies.

If you get a chance, test drive an A6 4.2 - that car is a little slice of heaven.

Oh no, that wasn't my point. For a performance car, yes, you want the suspension to be very stiff. But for day-to-day driving (particularly if you have bad roads in your area), rough rides can begin to annoy you (or your wife). It all depends on what you're looking for.

Audis....oh how I fear the reliability of them.

What the maximum speed limit in the USA? Also isn't 55 mph(90kph)(I always see this speed on the boards while watching TV) a bit slow?? What would the speed limit be on a road like Route 66??

US
