Need to restrict my kids on the use of net!!!!!

Hi people, I have been watching the activity of my kids for a week and that puts me in doubt. They have been spending too much time on the system and I found some files on the system that they shouldn’t have accessed (the ones that their age does not permit). I fear that this may spoil them from the academic view and I need to prevent them from doing this and at the same time do not want to restrict their time on the system.

Any suggestions?????

I hope this isn't a spam-bot. It sort of smells like the recent trend. If it is, expect a response from another 1 post user directing them to some miracle product, or expect the OP come back with the same thing.

Ideally you should be using separate user accounts with their account going through an internet proxy product that provides an age-restricted access list of websites. Or harsher yet, black list every site and slowly add known valid sites to the white-list. There are several products and some open source solutions to this issue.

How old are they? My 8 & 10 year old I've found a stern talking to does wonders with their net cruising attitudes. :)

I don't trust any software to monitor my kids online, my kids will be able to get around it some day. I'd rather teach them how to use it properly and why they should avoid the BS/crap/bad stuff.

Not easy, not always fun, but I think it's the best way.

My kid is only 3 and he's already hooked on NickJr.com.

Whenever I'm home, I'll take him outdoor or do some physical activities to give him more variety in early life. Hopefully when he found something he likes, he will drill down more. It's helluva work though.

The other alternative that I am considering seriously is to disable the network. Cold turkey may work if I do it early enough. I need to decide fast.

"Lo and behold" along come two (now deleted) posts from the same ISP as the original poster with the solution to the problem.

Thread closed.
