Motorstorm (PS3)

I wish they would have shown first person/ cockpit mode. then you could see how sharp the enviroments looked. Still looks fun though.

How does a cockpit view magically change environmental detail?

..Graphics of the vehicles look fairy good but the surroundings are very low poly.

The cam-vid seem to wash the details out. Only upclose you can really see how nicely detailed that buggy really is, and therefore your reaction is to premature. We really need to see a direct feed somewhere.

the French vids look much better!

the lighting is great (I can see now) and the game looks fun to boot.

A few frame hic ups (targeting 30fps says the devs) but that should improve as it is early yet. The deformation of the track is cool but I agree that the rumble feature may be missed here.

You would see the stuff closer up, like zooming in a sniper rifle . I want to see mud flying up on the winsheild and stuff, the ground right in front of you close up etc...any racing game regular view and then "cockpit" view look different.

You mean like putting your face to the ground to lick it? How can I lick the rocks in the background? Watch the video and show me how to achieve this.

Maybe the message has been confused a little. A first person view would undoubtedly be more immersive. As to showing more detail? Unlikely. Only newer builds would possibly do that.

the more I watch the clips for this the more impressed I am

I'm a sucker for realistic environments and lighting and this may have the most realistic environments yet.

some of the vids do not show it but some allow me to make it out. I really need direct feed.

looks fun as hell too.

Edit:
OK Gamespot Complete has HD vids up now (downloading )
well I think that GS feed was a vid because although better quality it still looks blurry.
The game looks ok in motion, a little slower paced than I had hoped (in that vid) and still couldn't make out the textures

i dunno.... i guess the low res vids with in-game blur make it look like sh*t, but i guess they are further in development than i though.
That wall has detail lol

if they can make the sandy sharpness from the render, i'll try and forget the "rest"

ftp://www.jeux-france.com/PlayStation_3/MotorStorm_1.wmv (holly crap pete, check the last 2 minutes)

The wall looks like a blurry texture with a specular/diffuse normal map applied, thus the overly shiny crevasses in the rocks. They need detail textures, and more realistic per-pixel lighting for their normal maps.

They must be racing on a metallic planet.

What bugs me about the footage I've seen is that the cars come across as very light and more like toys than real cars. If they can add some weight to them, it would already look a lot more authentic and more so like the E3 render... also, they should speed up the game a bit.

lol yeah i spotted all those in the original videos!

this game will rock online with 16 players goodness

heres another one:

From GAF

- Game takes place in Monument Valley
- There will only be 12 race tracks
- One of the tracks takes place on the Mesa, another track is a figure 8 in a canyon
- Cars are destructible however the body frame stays in tact
- Online mode (aiming for 8 - 16 players)
- DLC with new tracks and vehicles
- 35 different vehicles, they are upgradable
- There is no real-time deformation, that's all a parallax map
- The physics however react accordingly to the textures
- They are aiming for 20 cars at once on the track
- They will use the motion sensing controller as a means to attack other players or taunt
- The point of the game is to be simple and fun

I was not keeping close tabs on GDC, but was it not demoed doing realtime terrain deformation?

:?: :?: :?:

That's what I thought too. Isn't that why this game made an appearance @ GDC?
