More sales charts... (US)

42 copies? I mean that's not even the family and friends of the guys that made the game :p
Is the game that bad? What the hell happened here?

The graphics I saw on gamespot look horrible. Lighting wise and such. Overall reminded me of MGS OP on PSP.

More than FF12 in what sense? In the same week or in total? Was FF12 released the same day?

FF12 was released 26th of october, but I'm not sure whether the october sales are counted on the november chart or not?. According to NPD it sold 895,946 in november. Gears sold 1,002,004 (Collectors edition included)

edit: Sorry FF12 was released 31st of october. So the numbers are comparable.

Just checked and yes, GOW has sold more than FF12 in total in NA, FF12 sold about 2.5M in Japan though... still cool for GOW...

:???: are you trying to imply that GOW might not sell 2.5M in Japan!?
You are dead wrong! (that's what you get for editing posts like that )

I said WOW!
Yes that is very impressive, however that always happens when new a FF or DQ game is released in Japan, massive % of sales are made immediately when the game is out.

Well considering that FF12 is released on a 6 year old hardware, and not simultaneously on all territories then I think it did better

I don't think comparing GOW sales to FF12 sales is useful or even instructive for that matter.

FF12 is the 12th episode (doh) of a franchise which really needs no introductions. It had AMAZING reviews (though i'm bored shitless with it after 12 hours), and well, it's Final bloody Fantasy... Of course it sells like hotcakes, especially in Japan. I mean, the release dates for all FF games have been bank holidays in Japan! (ok that was an urban legend but you get my point)

GOW is a new franchise on a new console with limited userbase, especially compared to the user-base FF12 was released on.

Everything considered, FF12 sold amazingly well, as expected, but GOW has also sold amazingly well, even though it will never sell as much as FF12 in Japan (well, unless japanese 360 owners buy something like 10 copies each)!]

Point is... err... point is, this is a bit of an orange to lemons comparison... not as bad as an orange to apples, but still not really useful...

Ok i really need some sleep.

How does the fact that GoW was released simultaneously on all territories and FF12 in US affects the US sales?, also I'm sure you have generated interesting formula which outlines that selling a title for 6 year old hardware with 40+million units is tougher than for 1 year old with 4-6 million units, hey I dunno could be true

It kind of is true.

FWIW, i also got a bit confused with Nesh's comment, with the 6-year-old thing... It wasn't clear if he meant that it's somehow harder to sell FF12 on PS2 than GOW on 360, or the other way around......

To be honest, both titles are "easy sellers" on both platforms. The only difference in actual sales numbers is due to the difference in genre, accessibility and of course userbase to a certain extent...

I put userbase as a lower variable because there are only so many people who will buy FF12 or GOW, even if the userbase was 2bn. Like pretty much all genres, an RPG is only really accessible to a certain demographic, a certain type of gamer, which Japan happens to be full of. FF12 is certainly less marketable in the US and definitely Europe.

Same goes for GOW, although i think this one is "easier on the brain than FF12" for US and European gamers, if you know what i mean.

Well, an action game is always more accessible and pick-up-and-play than an epic 80hrs JRPG with a gay-looking main character, especially in the US and European markets.
And since GOW has been hyped to death, and is actually a very good game, i wouldn't be surprised if it sells a lot more than many japanese "safe and old" franchises in these 2 territories.

Regarding GOW sales, keep in mind that this 1 million is for the US only and its NDP data. Factor in that they don't capture all US sales, add Europe and the rest of the world, adn it may be quite close to 2 million units by now.

The sequel is gonna huge, that's for sure. :D
