More Delay Talk 2/27

I don't think a doubt of a Spring launch was in order given the evidence (or apparent lack thereof) until the Feb event was missed. Up until then it was a case of Sony being coy, which they have been before. But having made several claims that the Feb event would go ahead only for it not to, that shows things aren't running as Sony are wanting.

Seriously, I would expect that for a spring launch, Sony would have to be starting to roll off actual machines from the assembly line right about now. At the very latest by the first week of April...giving them about 2.5 months of lead manufacture time to hit June 20th if you want to still call that a spring launch. ;)

yes I was just trying to remember when we started seeing video of X360 machines rolling off the assembly lines (weren't they 2 months in advance at least?)

I agree that Sony would need at least two months lead time on any PS3 production - but that said, whenever PS3 begins production we'll almost certainly not know. Between Destination Playstation beginning now and DevStation beginning tomorrow, somebody somewhere's probably going to have some new launch window information. Now, the only thing to see is if any of that trickles down to 'us.'

How on earth are they really going tolaunch in Spring '06 when we have no new info sony is being hush hush devs have just barely gotten final dev kits. Realistically it's going to be Fall 06 for Japan and probably later for the US giving the 360 a year headstart.

Joe I think you've got a morbid fixation with Sony's toolbox of deception. :p

I wouldnt take as a knock on Sony's business practices. In the end, i think its good business for Sony to leverage their brand this way. In fact, if they showed their hand a moment before they needed to, i would consider it downright foolish.

Hey now! :) On the contrary I think Sony's - rather Kutaragi even - are quite genius in the way they play the game. That line you quoted was targeted straight at Joe in an inside joke kind of way, since I've been hassling him on his crusade against the Feb Event crew all month long. It wasn't really meant to convey more meaning than that - just trying to have a laid back post session I guess.

For myself, I could see it going either way and neither would surprise me; either Spring or delay. But of course I will say that if it did manage to make Spring, that would be the more exciting of the two outcomes. I'm sure we're all agreed there, despite what our differences on the actual odds of it happening are.

Well he should pipe down on the Feb event, seeing as there still 7 hours and 46 minutes (EST) left in Feb. ;) :D

Probably because there is stuff going on behind the curtains that general people don't know about?

Final dev kits go out at the end of Jan it seems, if they launch in June that'd give them 4-5 months with them... that's more time (or about equal) with final kits than X360 devs got (and you have people who have had Cells far longer than anyone had the XCPU). It isn't impossible to have software ready by May/June.

Whether that happens I don't know -- I have a feeling they are more or less a month behind judging from the dev kit release and lack of feb event (I've said this before), but it doesn't mean we're lookin at fall 06 for Japan. That seems a bit pessimistic and ridiculous -- I'm sure even Joe will agree? ;)

For all we know they could start production in March/April and launch in May/June (more likely June/July, if you ask me).

I know some people like to listen to all the rumors and such, but in reality there hasn't been much substantial pointing to more than a month or so of lateness (final kits ~1 month late and Feb event missing Feb). BR production isn't a hardware issue, it's software, so that isn't likely to actually stop production, merely release by however long the AACS takes to finalize after the supposed release date; Cell has been in production for what seems like years now; and RSX is poking its head out. Anyone calling out for several month delays (Fall 06 or 07 even!) are just as delirious as those calling out for a March/April release!

Sony has told the media that the launch of the console will be delayed due to difficulties in finalizing the Blu-ray drive's specs. An unnamed spokesperson for Sony Computer Entertainment in Japan admitted that PlayStation 3 launch could be delayed.
That's either very sloppy writing, or disingenious.

Exaaactly... :D

Any minute now... I can feel it in my bones! Quick, get Ms. Cleo on the line!

The February event was the unveiling of the Superman Returns video game CGI trailer.

Hey, at least they're consistent.

LOL. Seriously, at this rate we'll be lucky to see 500k PS3s on the shelves in the US with 5 games. :)

What are you talking about? EA has already gone on record to say that they will have 8-12 games for the PS3 at launch this Fall.

Again what are you talking about?

Is there any benefit at all in releasing a system in the spring? I mean, usually game releases slow down around the summer because people go outside and to the movies more. Also, any extra time would be good for launch games since the ps3 is probably the most complex to code for next-gen system.

Golden Week

In absence of news, make up your own. There are the BD titles that need to be released to some sort of platform. PS3 is clearly the preferred driver there. There are also the titles such as FN3 that need to be released within a reasonable timeframe, otherwise they will be too late for release. I haven't heard of any cancellations, though I haven't heard much of anything yet. Spring goes for a while, so there's plenty of wiggle room. It seems like there won't be anything new until E3 though. PEACE.

Sony to Plug PS3 Games

Brushing off reports of delays for the PlayStation 3, Sony is readying software for its updated game console.
......
Sony Online Entertainment spokesperson Courtney Simmons said the event would preview titles that would be shown off at E3, the industry’s major game event in early May. She also said Sony executives would answer questions about the company’s strategy.
Is this some investor targeted event or what?
