More Delay Talk 2/27

It's just as large as the old GS in the PS2 and has, presumably, better yields (with the SPE disable function).

Presumably based on what exactly? The statement yields are improving faster than ever? That could mean anything.

About 2/3rds the way down.
He never says what territory though. If we were to assume NA, wouldn't that be a duh? But if he was refering to Japan, what would be the ramifications of that?

I missed that. Where does the CEO say it?
Actually it seems more like a paraphrase. We actually can't be sure he even said it at all.

Sony will roll out the PS3 by year end, in time for the holidays. If PS3 "delivers what everyone thinks it will, the game is up," Stringer boasts.

Even after reading it again and again, I am not too sure he actually said the first part of the sentence.

What an odd thing for a CEO to say. It's almost as if he's distancing himself from claims others have made? Who is this 'everyone'?

Not surprising when he was most likely referring to NA.

however there is this...

Sony's new PlayStation 3 was widely expected to be introduced this spring, but will be delayed as the company fine-tunes the chips that are crucial to the success of the console's Blu-ray function.

I'm guessing the PS3 division is not happy about this revelation coming until they were ready to anounce it

It probably will be delayed, but just out of curiosity what makes this article any more credible than other speculative articles on the PS3.

because it's based on an interview with Howard Stringer CEO of Sony?

I wouldn't trust statements like

when pieces of the article are totally off the mark...
One strange twist in the battle is that Toshiba is working with Sony and IMB to produce the cell chip that's the foundation of Blu-ray
As an overview of Stringer's job and the current business situation of Sony it's a good read. For insight's into any particular aspect of Sony or evidence of console plans, it's too shaky to be reliable. We don't know if the comments are verbatim or not.

So they're going to give MS a full years head start and let their games become mature as well as their online service? I'm sure MS is loving this. I was looking to getting a PS3 this spring but I guess I'll have to wait.

Let's hope the late 2006 is a US launch and not just a Japan launch.
