More Delay Talk 2/27

Well one month ago UT2007 was playable at 49 FPS and DeanoC has said months ago that Heavenly Sword "indoors scenes" were playable.

Um, biggest problem?

LOOK at the controller?

So without even touching it, you've decided that the controller is not only a 'comfort factor' problem, but actually the BIGGEST problem? That's pretty silly, come back with your concerns once you've had some actual hands-on experience with the final controller.

I'm not going to go so far as to say the controller is the biggest problem, but it's not exactly a new design.

I don't imagine that Sony's boomerang feels all that different from Microsoft's boomerangs.

Joe I think you've got a morbid fixation with Sony's toolbox of deception. :p

Actually, if anything I have a morbid fixation for Sony's fans that "fall for" said deception. ;) In other words, anyone in Sony's position (MS included) would try and "deceive" the exact same way. It's people that don't even try to see through it that leaves me scratching my head.

I doubt that what they are doing is beyond what any company would need to do in their situation.

I agree 100%. Again, my seeming "obsession" with this is that people do not take this into consideration when trying to analyze / decrypt public statements from the company.

I agree with you, but regardless if it comes out 2 months or 10 months from now, people will still be clamoring for it. So, ultimately, what is the difference? Why waste your energy?

Why don't you ignore them then? ;)

Well no I know, I was just pokin' fun.

I don't actually believe you're obsessed with marketing strategies (or lack thereof), but your railing against the Feb thing for so long has just turned it all into an easily parodied theme I guess. :)

Why should I? It's not like I'm all bent out of shape over it...quite the contrary if you've notices. It's sort-of an exercise to me in human psychology...to watch this unfold.

Yup...it was all done to a bit of an extreme to make a point though. I like to illustrate "absurdity with absurdity" to try and get people to see the light. Usually, when every bit of common sense tells you one thing...I trust that to be true.

On the other hand, you can rely on "faith", contrived arguments from snippets of comments made from 3rd hand sources and wishful thinking for best or worst case scenarios.

You seem bent out of shape of it. You seem more riled up of these people than the people are to you. Your obsession is sad actually. Let it go man. Let the people believe what they want. If in the end they're wrong, who really cares, they were wrong. Or do you relish in rubbing it in their faces. :devilish:

I think the psychology is more interesting of you keep bringing up this February event. ;)

I must go TA now, stupid lab...

I completely agree. Ce la vie though, ce la vie...

Usually I find on forums of this nature that if a particular poster claims he is "fascinated" with a particular brand of fanboi, then its equally instructive about said poster. ;)

Sure. I happen to be biased toward the XBox console myself.

The trick is, to not let your bias interfere with your judgement in general. ;)

I "relish it" to the extent that maybe, just maybe, some people will learn from it.

I'm not the one who brought up the Feb event in this thread. ;)

maybe what Joe is trying to get at is an admission (by some) that yes, perhaps the spring launch was very likely designed as a hopeful carrot-on-a-stick to quell some X360 sales (while trying to get their plan to come together as soon as possible) rather than a definitive release date. :p

Not exactly. When "Spring '06" was first announced (last E3?), there was really no good reason to doubt that. It was too far off to make any kind of definitive assesment of what could be going on. I would actually say that Sony had every intent (though probably optimisitic) that they would make a decent Spring launch date.

However, as time marched on, and no new "news" surfaced (lack of real game footage, on-hand demos, delays to both high-def formats in general) it became more and more clear that Spring would be missed. So at this point, I'd say that their stance on a "spring launch" is carrot-on-a-stick.

that makes sense

of course Sony could still surprise. I'm sure they are doing everything they can to get it out the door but it is not an easy task as the system is quite ambitious (especially considering they are adding a brand new drive format)

Any console launch is quite ambitious! I think too many people gloss over exactly how ambitious just manufacturing / assembling / packaging 1-2 million of anything is...let alone as complex and bleeding edge as todays game consoles are. There are so many things that can go wrong. It's still quite amazing to me that MS pulled of their own launch as well as they did.

Seriously, I would expect that for a spring launch, Sony would have to be starting to roll off actual machines from the assembly line right about now. At the very latest by the first week of April...giving them about 2.5 months of lead manufacture time to hit June 20th if you want to still call that a spring launch. ;)
