Metal Gear Solid 4 gameplay trailer @ TGS

I really dont know if they are promo pics and i am a bit confused also.
Maybe someone more well-posted can inform us if Kojima's aiming for 1080p .:?:

I know some are complaining about the textures and stuff because they tend to compare it with other games. But it doesnt matter. It looks just as good if not better than these games. Who sais all games should base their visual quality on the same formula. Personally I am 100% satisfied with this game's looks and gameplay mechanics.

Its simply a marvel to watch

Looking at the rock in this pic, especially to Snake's right...

don't you think it really needs both better resolution and some normal mapping? As it is there, it doesn't look like a wall but a textured polygon - they've lost all illusion.

It's such a patchwork right now. Theres alot of placeholder assets in there. Confirmed animations. I'd imagine alot of textures too.

With what we've seen in the last year (competition) I feel MGS4 has slipped relativly in technical terms. But I think the game still looks fantastic. Near the top of the heap.

Judging from the quality seen in the trailer that picture isnt a real representation of the game's visual quality

btw: There is a new big boss clone?

A picture can't be 1080p. P stands for progressive which is a moving image. The game could very likely be 1080i which some 360 games use aswell.

This game looks amazing overall, but the textures on the environments are really really low-resolution while the characters are extremely detailed. Trade off or will they get better?

Koji and some other dude already answered that question in interviews after E3.

I'm sure the final version will look a lot better

Yeah, seriously though... it goes without saying.

Let's just please all be in agreement that the direct feed trailer looked a lot better than the cam shots, right? ;)

And then when you've got the animation for the soldiers as straight algorithm ports from MGS3, this and other stuff... I mean it's going to get a lot better.

Ultimately though - although it has been being used as such until now - MGS titles shouldn't be viewed as the standard-bearers for graphics so much as the standard-bearers for story and artistic direction. Whether or not this release ropes in any 'graphicsbois' at the end of the day or not, it's looking to shape up to be the possible star of an already illustrious series. Props to Kojima, a true luminary.

Figured these were worth posting, taken from a slightly better quality video (ty gogogow)

still wondering about this young snake character, kojima is full of surprises.
