Mass Effect 3

So... literally, press B to win? Or even scripted action sequences? Sounds like a really expensive choose your own adventure novel ($60). :p Might as well just come up with a blu ray interactive movie or read the wiki.
That's why it's called "interactive entertainment" nowadays and not "games". Yes, Choose your own adventure novel is pretty much what I'm going after if the combat is purely there to slow down your progress through the story. Note that I didn't feel that way about Assassin's Creed, because the combat makes sense in that game and doesn't just feel like <generate_random_floorplan(); populate_random_enemies(); run_gauntlet(); rinse(); repeat()>. I mean seriously, I've had more fun clicking on crops in CastleVille.

How about you pay me $60 and ill provide you a video of my play through? ;)

For an extra $60 dollars I will provide a version with Dobwal's commentary and extra special edition with DobWal's own custom dub overs.
Absolutely, as long as you give me a video for each choice you make so I can choose which way the story goes.

You mean like QTEs. You like those? Have you tried playing Heavy Rain? Did you like that? You think Ea is going to let BioWare invest tens of millions of dollars making a QTE simulator?
Nope, not like quick time events, which are possibly the only more annoying gameplay mechanic than random gunplay. More like "Press the back button at any point in this combat sequence to skip it and go to the next story point".
And I would love to play Heavy Rain, and the Uncharted games, since I hear they have excellent storylines. Unfortunately, I do not own a PS3.

More like "Press the back button at any point in this combat sequence to skip it and go to the next story point".....

You are of those people.....

....and by the way, you wouldn't enjoy Heavy Rain very much if you have a problem with QTE, it's about 90% of the game.

Whilst I'm not 100% in agreement with your stance (and why should I be? Different strokes for different folks) I think there's definitely an element of truth here. I think back to the <gameplay between conversations> in ME2 and it really is just combat, and very similar combat at that. Thinking back to previous Bioware games like KOTOR and I remember there being puzzles, racing sections, missions that involved nothing but conversation to get to your goal, i.e. a bit of variety, so I can understand your frustration with that.

Even better if there was optional in game scripted cinematic fight scene as an option instead of having to go through the tedious combat. So, escape (back button) to skip entirely or backspace (start?) to skip combat and play scripted movie like cinematic combat sequence. As long as each combat sequence is somewhat short and unique.

While I loved the combat in ME1, I would have loved to have been able to skip the dreary combat in ME2. Although that would exposed the irrelevant character interaction and dialog even more in the ME2. So probably wouldn't have been worth the price of admission for ME2. Then again, ME2 wasn't worth the price I paid for it anyway, so it would have been better than the product I ended up with. Same goes for some 3rd person action games. Bayonetta for instance, I suck at the more complex 3rd person action games, but I would have loved to have experienced the world and potential story of that game.

There's a lot of shooters I'd buy at a discounted price just for the storyline and experience if I could skip the combat. Too many average and mediocre shooters for me to want to bother actually going through the motions with the tedious and repetitive "gameplay" just to experience the world and potential story.

Heck, the story mode for ME3 is the only thing that "might" convince me to buy the game when it eventually hits 10 USD.

I agree with SB, something like Mass Effect could work with automated combat, but imo the they would have to improve the conversations and different path options dramatically for it to actual stand on it's own properly. I mostly play for the story also and feel like the combat is somewhat of a grind, but the RPG setting is the only one I can realistically choose. I don't have any problems with bkilian's having different view though

What's important to me now is whether or not the character is worth $10 compared to what they did in ME2. hm....

Personally, I'm take the "Wait to a discount" for this DLC, so this give time to have returns of the interest of it… But in the same time I'm have the feeling that over DLCs would probably be only for the Co-op part, difficult to made DLC after the end of the Sheppard Story, so probably resale quickly ME3 to finance Witcher 2 or Risen 2.

Well I managed to subdue my anger and pre-ordered the game, I also have some MS points and will purchase the Prothean DLC. I got the game for 43€ as we can buy games without VAT over here due to a goofy loop hole. UK e-tailer price with tax is almost as low though... but anyways 43€+7€ for the DLC is not that bad I quess, even if me being upset about the DLC was never about few euros, but of principle.

I figured these are the games why I'm in gaming in the first place so I'll just play this happily and save some energy for another whining session to use at a later time :)

It's quite crazy how had I read this post 10 years ago I'd have cried fire and brimestone, but now i mostly agree. Especially on the bits about games like Bayonetta etc. I'm simply not in it with action games for the competition or training to be able to "play like a badass".

If the game designers can actually design compelling gamesplay then I'm for sure down, otherwise i'm just happy to excperience the setting, characters and story. My problem is that i no longer have as much time for my gaming, so if a game has great story etc and dry gameplay, i'll probably pass on it.

On the other hand though I actually really enjoyed the shooting in ME2, but only on the PS3 version though... I didn't have a controller to play it when i bought it first on PC, and for me, playing anything remotely resembling a console-like game with KB&M just feels awful. When i later bought the PS3 version it felt miles better and i could enjoy those parts of the game much more. It wasn't incredible, but i did enjoy my time with it. Bioware would have seen the game benefit from more weapons that actually felt good to use, and whilst i applaud them (and any other dev for that matter) that makes a shooter and actually tries to put some thought into having some non-conventional FPS weapons, and not just the same old boring drivel (i.e. pistol, shotgun, SMG, AR, Sniper Rif, Rocket/Grenade Launcher etc), I still felt given the Sci-Fi setting they could have gone waaaay more out there with the weapons and it would have helped to differentiate the combat from other shooters more.

From the promotional ME3 material (haven't played the demo yet) it doesn't seem like they've made any improvement in the weapons. I just wish devs in a so-called "creative industry" would actually try to be a bit more... well... you know, "creative" with these things.

She was already shown in the fem shep trailer. It was for a fraction of a second around the 1:03 mark.

Ok have to check that out. Every little bit helps :)

edit: wow you guys must have watched these clips with scary attention to detail :)
Still going from the cover of ME2 to fraction of a second in a one video clip, it feels like Miranda has been somewhat demoted... I hope she has a good role still.

The role of Cerberus throughout the game will also be interesting. I think I have to fire ME 2 for a bit :)
