Last of Us [PS4]

I watched "1080p" youtube videos as well and there was loads of aliasing...looked heavily sharpened. But then I watched the DF 1080p/60fps video and IQ is quite good. Goes without saying...yt sucks.

95 on metacritic. Game of the years? :p Probably not.

It could happen. The only other game that will have similar ~95 score is GTA5, which is also remaster. [I personally think that scores for it will be lower because of the MP, which was not activated when original reviews went up].

It will be a very sad day if GOTY 2014 is a 2013 game.

It's going to be between GTAV remaster and TLoU remaster.

What other games have a chance of even reaching 90 on metacritic?
Destiny. It may or may not score lower than TLoU:R, but it will most likely win because TLoU is essentially a 2013 game and already won GOTY.

Order, Witcher, Arkham [and according to some reports, Bloodbourne]... all good stuff was delayed from 2014 into early 2015.

Destiny is the strongest contender, but [even after awesome Beta] I somehow dont think it will get a lot of 10s.

I watched the DF vids and somehow hoped a bit more to be honest. In particular, the texture don't look that super high res. Most surprisingly, the IQ isn't what I hoped for.

I do wonder if the feel of 60hz makes up for it. This is going to be interesting!

It will likely look a bit better if you see it on your screen. I was always shocked by how much better Uncharted's textures looked on my TV vs videos on-line.

Jesus wow these ingame models are pretty much cutscene level now, with a little worse lighting maybe.

Now I can't wait for a GOW3/Ascension/Beyond remaster:).

It will be a very sad day if GOTY 2014 is a 2013 game.

I don't think it's particularly strange or sad when two one-year-old games widely considered to be the pinnacle of the last generation of hardware beat out a bunch of fist year efforts on the new machines. I mean how many unforgettable experiences have the first PS3/360 years brought us? I cannot think of any really. The best Sony release during the PS3's fist year was God of War 2 on the PS2, and by a landslide no less. We're slowly approaching movie territory here: everything gets more and more refined, but Jurassic Park's dinosaurs still hold up pretty well after all these years.

That said, I don't think the games will be up for debate in most GotY discussions. I think the new Assassin's Creed will do pretty well. (despite the pathetic outcries of the manginas)

Listwars Smackdown! GotY from Wikipedia:

Edge
2005 Resident Evil 4, GC/PS2
2006 FFXII, PS2
2007 SMGalaxy, Wii

Famitsu
2005 RE4, all platforms + Kingdom Hearts 2, PS2
2006 FFXII, PS2 + Pokemon, DS
2007 SMGalaxy, Wii + Monster Hunter 2, PSP

Game Informer
2005 RE4, all platforms
2006 LoZ:Twilight Princess, Wii/GC
2007 Bioshock, PCS360

Game Pro
2005 RE4
2006 Gears of War
2007 COD:MW

Eurogamer
2005 Psychonauts
2006 Guitar Hero
2007 Portal

Lots of others. GotY has mostly been a year or two behind generations. Gears and COD:MW have made a little appearance for the first-year next-gen presence, but by and large last-gen games were more usually the recipient.

A remake winning GotY? A good game is a good game. LoU was the best game on PS3 and so is clearly going to be a great game on PS4. It's also a better version of the same game as was on PS3, making it objectively superior. The only disadvantage is it's up against new titles that can potentially do new things, but new titles tend to be a little weak. LoU represents the pinnacle of last-gen gaming with years of development behind it rather than a rushed launch title. It's certainly possible that LoU is the highest rated game on PS4 for many, and it wouldn't be unfair for it to win GotY. People lamenting the variety of software should probably remind themselves of previous first-year libraries - they tend to be weak, which is why the previous gen gets the GotYs!

I wanna see it damn it.

I can't believe everybody just obliged when Neill Druckmann said please turn off your cameras and smartphones during yesterday's release event.

DF has a summary of the epilogue:

Set some time after the game's ending (some in attendance report they heard "four years", other say this was Druckmann referring to the amount of time he spent writing the game), the scene finds Joel and Ellie now living at Tommy's dam.

Joel is now dating a woman from the camp named Esther, while Ellie is still acting a little distant. Joel reveals he has got Ellie a guitar as a present, plays her a song and promises he'll teach her how to play.

The two share a joke ("What's the bad thing about eating a clock? It's time consuming.") and then Joel leaves, as Ellie strums her new guitar.

IMHO, nothing wrong with it
only shows that they managed to survive a few more years and Joel managed to move on after the events at the start of the game
