Last of Us [PS4]

A display is simulating a continuous motion, through discrete frames. Even if your game runs at perfect 60fps, or even 120 for that matter, ideal representation of movement requires some sort of motion bluring. It's not just a movie-like effect, it's a form of anti aliasing fully backed by sampling theory.

True dat. But with a high enough sampling rate (might be >120 hz, I don't know) you wouldn't need that blurring unless you want to emulate a camera.

Most games don't have objects moving fast enough for motion blur to be terribly necessary at 120fps, but I don't see games reaching those framerates any time soon.

On a side-note, I just played the demo at a friends house (I haven't got GowA) and I'm a little underimpressed to be honest. This is definetely one of the best looking this gen, but I think Uncharted 3 still takes the crown. Their real time radiosity is definetely impressive, but probably extremely aproximated. Only Joel's flashlight bounces light for one, and even that is location specific, probably artist defined low light places. Tes's flashlight does sort of fool you into thinking it has some kind of real time GI by having an aditional pointlight atached to her, but that is about it, or so it seemed to me. Her flashlight doesn't cast shadows either, something DF got wrong...
Art and animation is great, but I think most animation loops might become repetivive quick in this game. Texture and effect work are definitely above Uncharted, and much more subtle too. U3 got away with lower texture variety thanks to it's cleanter and fantastical environments, here everything is dirty and rusty, which requires more care.
It's a great looking game thanks to competent tech and atentive artists, but not exactly some sort of revolution. It's a good time for next-gen to come about.

LOU color scheme is more muted, where Uncharted is more vivid and saturated. But I do think that U3 is a bit better in terms of texture. Almost every tiny objects in U3 is super detail, where some very obvious low res texture on some large object. The foliage is pretty mediocre, but I think that is one of the PS3 biggest weakness.

The levels are more open compared to Uncharted. There was bound to be a hit to the graphics.

I don't know about that. Uncharded had some pretty massive levels too, and that while having more enemies on screen and huge chuncks of the level moving about (train scene, car chases, shipyard, cruise ship, etc.) LoU changed scope for detail, but then just didn't add that much detail anyway. I do feel pety saying this though because the game is still beautifull.

exactly my thought, maybe final version is much improved? Like its not bad in the demo by all means, just doesn't measure up against U3, which was made by a much smaller team size in less time. I remember when they finished U3, someone at ND said they are still a company of 90+ ppl, huge chunk of them were secretly working on LOU. Recently I think they have about 240+ with 2 full team.

Don't forget that TLoU is supposedly quite massive in scope. Filling a 20 hour game with content is no small feat.

I thought the demo was okay. Didn't blow me away to be honest. Looked quite nice and the challenge felt appropriate given the survival theme. Kinda the way I was hoping the latest Tomb Raider would turn out. Mechanically it wasn't anything to write home about though. Just a competent stealth game. I blame my lack of enthusiam on the simple fact that this was merely a 10 minute snippet without any context whatsoever. I'm still quite excited for the final product.

I just pre-ordered the game from PSN store.
Do I have to fill my "wallet", or will they automatically bill my credit card?

First buy from PSN...

I think that depends on how you've set up your payment procedure. I've only pre-ordered a single time on PSN so far and everything went automatically.

Chk your download list man, you will have the LOu 132 mb installer. Since u get a lot of things from the preorder maybe u r missing it but its there?

I've checked again but could only find the preorder theme.
Maybe it's different when you preorder the game through GOW:A and PSN directly?
Didn''t you have to download the client to get the demo or something?

By the way, Edge magazine gave it a 10/10.

I bought it directly from PSN. You should have got the client, the 132mb installer. I have all the bonuses installed already along with the installer too. WHen I click on the installer, it says it can't be started before the start date.

You should have got it too. Contact Sony ASAP. Maybe you got it but u didn't download all. You should also get the OST for Sights and Sounds edition.Just go back to the store and try to preorder again. You can't be charged twice as Sony hasn't deducted money yet. Just my guess.

Which country? EU got t he installer already. Weird stuff. And I have aasked everyone from ND on twitter about the preload, hope I get a reply soon. But judging by the message u got, I guess there's no preload for this game thanx to the custom installer. :(
