They are infected with a fungus and turn into zombie like creatures...I suggest to watch the first reveal trailer (yt vga 2011 iirc) to get an idea. But not much is known.

Zombies could be the only meh aspect in this game...

    I know they're zombies/infected.
I believe this is the first time we seem them in action in-game.

Oh, ok, sorry...I misunderstood you. Actually a good question. It seems to me that they are infected because of their aggressive ai. Up to now, enemies shown were rather slow and did not rush. Those enemies in the gif did rush. This fits to the behavior shown in the first reveal trailer. But, it could be that these are just members of a different faction. Iirc, enemies from different factions behave differently...

The infected people have actually been shown in the VGA trailer. Fractions of gameplay segments too;)

They've already shown that game will have magnificent visuals in realtime public demos [demo was played several times in different ways for journalists, every time with different gameplay/AI tactics]:

If they have managed this, im sure they will also produce awesome visuals in other parts of the game.

In that second comparison I find it a bit disingenuous to compare cutscenes that have completely changed, he looks just as good as the second E3 shot in the desert gameplay, as demonstrated by this video.

I forgot how good their indirect shadows were, also one bounce GI from flashlight looks nice.

No need to act defensively as I never said that the game will have average or bad looking graphics at all.It will have fantastic visuals as evidenced by the footage but I expect some form of a downgrade.Either way, I'm really looking forward to the game and glad its coming out sooner rather than later..

I wouldn't consider that a downgrade since neither the new or old versions were realtime. It's just an artistic decision by the cutscene director to make lighting and location changes.

How can anything that DieH@rd posted be construed as "acting defensively" :???::?:

It was an even-tempered good-natured post, wherein he provided evidence of footage shown already in the public domain which proves that the gameplay segments already shown look great.

Frankly I dunno where the heck this idea of ND downgrading Uncharted visuals since from their first showing to final release, comes from. It's inane. As has already been said, it's all pre-rendered footage, and its foolish to think that a dev would choose to put low quality pre-rendered footage on a final retail game disk, when they've shown to have hi-quality versions available (we're talking Blu-ray disk sace here, so that's not a limiting factor). They simply made changes clearly driven by artistic decisions.

The pix above are from Gaf and are pretty silly fanboy drivel tbh, trying to intimate something that sheer common sense would you would otherwise never happen.

It makes me think that the person who made the above pic, as well as the people who continue to parrot and propagate such an asinine notion, have probably not played any of the Uncharted games themselves.

I've played through U1-3 over five times each, and never once did i ever think "these cutscenes don't look as good as the footage they initially showed". Even if ND did make some further changes to the in-game cinemas in TLOU, changes that in a certain spot, under the right lighting and with the right amount of shitty Youtube capture compression, might appear a slight downgrade from these promo trailers shown, I don't think anyone who plays the final retail game will ever notice *shrug*.

I don't understand the internet sometimes...

I surprise I thought MLAA or any postAA was suppose to work better in high contrast scene, but uncharted 3 was different.

UC3 used Naughty Dog's custom AA solution.

Also that first screenshot is hideous looking, it doesn't even look like the same game....such flat lighting.

The footage from that 1st pic looks a bit better in motion and that pic isn't doing it justice..

Well it still does look quite muddy and flat. Also resembles city 17.

Interesting to see these much more realistic character faces after the three Uncharted games and their stylized humans. And a more muted color palette as well...

Definitely not - City 17 had a unique Eastern European favor, mixing architecture from the turn of the century (1900s) and from the socialist era. The initial train ride's setting is an almost direct copy from our capital Budapest, for example, but there are elements from Poland, the former Czechslovakia and other countries as well.

This one looks completely different, very US like.

The muddy environments resemble DOOM 4 leaked screenshots, probably since its screencap.

You are right about that. Half Life 2 settings were very distinctivelly european, and that mixed very well with the tottalitarian government themes of the game, while LoU is a very american game by all means. What made me remember city 17 was not so much the architecture, but the whole huge city with small survivor population, gray cloudy collors, decaying buildings, police everywhere and people being arrested. That definetely has some similarities with HL2. Now there was that older trailer where joel and the girl talk to this mechanic, who I think said they destroied some of his traps ( I could recalling things wrong now ) and that makes me remember that preacher from HL2 that has a whole bunch of zombie killing traps around his hideout as well.
