Last of Us [PS4]

And who decides when is it enough information?

Are you being facetous? :neutral::unsure:

I figured people on this forum were able to exercise the slightest bit of reason in an argument, instead of simply arguing for the sake of it.

L. Scofield are you really trying to imply that you think it is reasonable to criticise an entire game based on a single 5-6 mins clip of gameplay, driven wholly by the player and their choices?

It's like seeing a 5 mins clip of a person killing mudcrabs in Skyrim, and concluding that the developers are shit for making a game that only lets to kill one type of enemy and has no variety in gameplay.

There's really no way to argue around the fact that the conclusions jumped to by others in this thread are premature and silly.

If you have some personal emotional distaste for ND as a developer and/or their games, then that's really your own perrogative. However don't be upset if people call you out for expressing opinions founded on little to no reasonable nor logical basis.

Agreed,

My apologies if any of my recent posts contain anything worthy of instigating thread derailment. My intent was merely to argue against what i saw to be a building sentiment within the thread, yet seemed to have no reasonably justifiable basis.

Back on topic, I'm excited to see more of TLoU. It seems as if its alot more open in terms of level design and gameplay design than Uncharted (not that I didn't thoroughly enjoy the latter). I'm looking forward to it getting closer to release

Well I for one am really stoked, and really grateful, to have such a quality game delivered as a swan song for the PS3.

hope ND can show some gameplay with zombies.

Yeah, I wonder how this will turn out? It seems that Joel moves slower than Nathan Drake and is not this agile in combat. The zombie clips shown so far reveal them to be of the fast moving zombie type...I wonder if you can hide from them?

Furthermore, it seems to me that in all Uncharted games, the 'super natural enemies' appear rather at the end of the game, or say about 80% in, such that those new enemy types are a gameplay/strategy changer and supposedly fresh things up...wonder if this is the same for The Last of Us?

To be honest, in the UC games, those supernatural enemies and their associated gameplay are my least favorite elements in the games...I hope TLoU will be different...

Ya, from the first teaser, it looks like those things are blind, they rely on sound to hunt their prey. I hope where will be some parts where you get over run by hordes of them.

People need to calm down a bit and remind themselves about the basis of a discussion board...

No one is saying the game can't or couldn't be judged before it's released, but that we don't have enough information to fairly judge the game at this point. We've only really seen a small fragment of what the game offers, and assuming it's "shit", "mediocre", or "just like Uncharted" would be jumping the gun.
People are entitled to 'jump the gun' and form a wrong opinion prematurely. ;) Any game showing is open to praise and criticism based on what's shown irrespective of how it turns out in the end - we don't enforce a silence until games are released. We discuss what we like, what we don't like, and what we hope to see, given our interpretation of the information we've seen.

Reviewing this thread, I see some disagreements but nothing untoward, and the discussion about where people's opinions come from is off topic and destructive. When someone expresses an opinion you disagree with, reply with a counter point, or say nothing. If they won't change their mind, then you agree to disagree. eg.:

Aaron : I think this game looks great.
Bob : I think it looks samey.
Aaron : This and this are different.
Bob : Nah, it's all been done before.
Aaron : Well I disagree

That's where it stops. We don't proceed to...

Bob : You're too much a fanboy to know good from bad.
Aaron : You criticise every platform exclusive with this same trolling.
Bob : It's not trolling. It's true and you're just too stinky to realise.
(yada yada, mod gets woken out of hiibernation and nukes the thread. Exit stage left)

At the end of the day, if someone is too blinkered and prejudiced to appreciate how great/rubbish a game is, that's their loss and there's no good reason to argue the point with them. As long as they are only spending their money and not yours, who cares? When your well argued points fail to make an impression, just kick back and relax in quiet knowledge of your superiority that you can see how bad/good a game is when they are too stupid too. ;)

Oh, that is an interesting observation...did not realize this while watching. Wonder if they incorporate that in the gameplay mechanics, or even how this could be implemented?!?

I want to know more about the game, but on the other hand I wish that ND keeps everything secret until release...weird isn't it??

Maybe they could add smell too ala MGS4 but that actually works.

ya but I would like a glimpse of it. :)

Read an article in the Metro this morning and it made me think about this game... :)

It was about a new "gold rush" in china where people are rushing out into a certain rural part of china to harvest a particular strain of Cordyceps fungus that sprouts out of the bodies of catapillars. The worst bit is that the chinese are buying it up at something like £8000 a pop, as it's been hailed as an afrodisiac in chinese medicine and was taken by two chinese women runners who won medals at the Olympics.

... People in China are intentionally ingesting Cordyceps! :runaway::mad:

The infestation has begun folks

Whilst I agree Shifty that people are perfectly entitled to jump to their own conclusions or form an opinion based on something they see/hear/play, I think the it's unfair to intimate that anyone here was attempting to "silence" those who were jumping to such conclusions.

Rather, their conclusions were being addressed in light of the fact that they hadn't seen enough of the game to reasonably justify the conclusions they were jumping to. Some interpreted that as a challenge, or an attempt to silence those expressing an opinion when in fact it never was. I was personally perfectly open to discourse with Cyan about why he'd concluded on the things he had.

If people can express opinions wrong or right on here, or conclusions justified or not, then surely others should also be able to freely express reasons why they think those opinions or conclusions are flawed without censure, or accusation of making attempts to silence others?

Anyway, I shall say no more on this because I don't want to derail the thread discussion. The topic is the game, and my intention was only to discuss that objectively, in light of the information revealed about it so far.

Based on this thread all I want to know is when is the edited youtube playthrough video of this game coming out? I watched the all 3 Uncharted games on youtube and I don't see how physically playing those games myself would have improved the experience for me. I would probably get less frustrated at some of the shooting and jumping sections but for the most part I feel that the last of us will have the same kind of "third person movie game" feel.

We could even go back to the Uncharted preview trailers and look how different they were from the actual game.

Of course this is not a big deal for some people but you have to call a spade a spade. its a choose you own path movie-game. Everyone will have the same expirence. You'll either hate it or love it. But it will be the same. Even GTA4 is a linear fetchquest game - its just what it is. Pacman.
