Lair presentation on Siggraph 2006 30 July - 3 August

AFAIK there was a mild whiplash from the first E3 demo (cgi-like real-time x-wings/death star scene) to the final game RSII:RL. There was some contrast between the pure tech demo and the actual game ... surprise, surprise ... perfect feed for naysayers and haters.

IIRC toyshop is a tech demo to show off the power of a specific graphic card no? Why would Factor 5 waste time on making a real time tech demo that was way beyond what the actual game could do? Sounds like a waste of development time, especially if they wanted to make launch window. They could have just outsourced a cg demo like everyone else if they wanted to show amazing looking graphics. Anyways, theres an actual in-game screen shot around somewhere with the hud and all, and it looks pretty damn good. Not to mention Factor 5 has a pretty good history with getting alot of graphical power out of hardware. The only thing I am worried about with Lair, is gameplay.

This was from GDC and one of the Lair insiders on IGN confirmed it was realtime and playable (and that he in fact did play it):

No, there actually was not.

The fancrowd people were so stunned by the initial demo they just HAD to believe it was being faked, and that the final game was dumbed down somehow - which it wasn't.

Thats the screen shot I am refering to in my post. But im not sure if anybody saw him play it, IIRC that image was pulled out of the speakers presentation during GDC. But realtime non the less.

True, fake? What do you think?
Looks real to me. But I would wait on seeing some direct feed shots/movies to start talking about downgrades.

*btw, dont think scans are allowed.

Heard through the grapevine some bad things about Factor 5 just recently.

My guess is that Lair probably isn't coming out until Fall 2007. Someone apparently noticed that the game was poo? History has shown that it's very hard to get a dragon movie or game right. Maybe they bit off more than they could chew?

??
What exactly is it in dragons that would make them hard to adapt to a game or movie?
The movies for example that have featured dragons in a major role have not sucked because of the dragons, but the script (Reign of Fire and Dragonheart come to mind first, and they weren't that bad)

We haven't yet seen much of actual gameplay of Lair yet, but what has been shown mainly in form of stills, it at this stage has looked to be a very simple shooter.
With Warhawk already coming at launch, maybe they want to push it back so as not to hurt each others sales because the basic gameplay could be very similar.
I'd find it hard to decide between Lair and Warhawk would they both be "launch period" games, so delaying it some months and gaining some time making the gameplay better and more varied could be a good thing.

Can you elaborate? Sounds like your talking about the "hold Lair from e3" bit.

I think we've seen absolutely nothing from the gameplay. Those images are from in-engine or maybe even prerendered movies, there was nothing to speculate from.

On IGN a Factor 5 employee confirmed that the visuals in the pic were genuine and also that Factor 5 was dismayed they couldn't show anything at E3. When I spoke to him I didn't see any reason to not believe him back then.

I don't disagree we haven't seen gameplay, but then this fellow would have had to straight up lie to IGN posters about the "slide" image and other things as well.

I'm not really concerned about the image or the two previous real-time videos but their E3 06 trailer is something to behold...I certainly WANT to believe that's real-time in any way but...I'm betting I won't know until I put the game in my PS3 this holiday season.
