Well lets see.. DoA3 was a launch title, oh then a few months later came Rallisport Challenge.. then a little after that came MotoGP.. etc. etc. etc.

whats your point? I am asking because your reasoning is all over the place and I'm wondering if we have crossed wires?

That was my quote:p One of the new guys asked for Xbox games that run at 60fps with bump mapping. Was pointing out it was there from the get-go.

Gamespot SOCOM II impressions, visuals...sure...they are lying by your logic.

Fear the bumpmapping :?

that pretty generic. racing game fighting games with animated backdrops etc fall under this category.

also since where in jak 2 do you have hundreds/thousands of moving (complex) objects?

huge world? are you talking about draw distance? of level size/geometry ratio?

EDIT:

i am not ps2 fan, i only know that xbox doesnt have technically advanced game like gc or ps2 yet...

'doesn't have a technically advanced games'? even some of the launch titles were eye catching don't you think?

i know who Zurich is, a pc freak, hes comparing apples to oranges...ie. PC to ps2 which are totally different, but that is normal...

does he know that xbox cpu has only 3Gflops?(worst cpu of all three consoles, indeed)...gpu gets a nod.

What are you talking about? I'm grudgingly trying to help you understand what you're trying to talk about.

" since where in jak 2 do you have hundreds/thousands of moving (complex) objects?

yes, jak1 and 2 have huundreds moving objects...just like RaC has.

huge world - everything you mentioned...

And ZURICH

i know that Socom 2 looks horrible....you just said ps2 cannot bump-map without performance hit.

This is getting a bit out of hand here...

We all know that it's not easy and for many developers not feasable to do bump mapping in-game - but why write it off as that easily? All those facts presented that PS2 will never do it, are laughable at best. Reminds me of the thread vers made on his little achievements doing bump mapping - that already should be evident enough that it can be done. Period.

[disclaimer]No I don't care if we'll ever see it, I just disagree with the general additude of some posters spouting "facts" about how it will never be done with no technical reasoning behind it.[/disclaimer]

if you want ot dicuss why we differ on this issue then at least refrain from the superiorty style posting and insults thanks.

PHil:

we know PS2 can do BM but given what we know we are merely expressing sceptism.

Jak 2 is a gta game with platformer action and beautiful graphics and 60fps, rockstar is dead...

GTA is doing alot more besides pushing Graphics (which are average at best IMO) and was developed on middleware.

you keep bringing up that Jak2 has beautiful graphics. while no one is disputing that. I doubt that what we will see is not unreproducable on other formats (Xbox is dead cert and gamecube might be memory limited *shrugs*).

yes, jak1 and 2 have huundreds moving objects...just like RaC has.

jak had a huge world in terms of scale. tecture and geometry complexity at any one viewport was good not great. as for moving objects I cannot recall many instances of hundreds of them whilst playing (at least not in jak1).

IT CANT.

For goddsakes man, people who make a living professionally coding GAMES for the PS2 have said here what I just said (no DoT3, multitexture performance murder), why can't you understand this?

I posted the Socom 2 picture to show you that there is clearly no bumpmapping going on there.

Like seriously, if you want to be an active, informed member of this board, why can't you just suck it up and do some research into past threads instead of making yourself look bad.

Zurich, yes pc developers are not able to make it, pc developers ate not experienced, thats true....and if you cannot see bump-mappping on that screen, you are blind.

Does friedsnake have ANY idea what he's talking about?

this thread seems pointless, he's just talking crap...

I give up. Time for the mods to step in :?

In other news, the Jak 2 engine sure looks nice. It'd be nice if ND would license it out to other devs, or they themselves use it for a non-platformer. I kinda/sorta hate the genre, but it would be sweet to see it in an action-type game.

jak2 is inspirated by grand theft auto, there are similar missions, isnt it action for ya?

Exactly.

I wonder friedsnake is

a) a real ps2 newbie fan
b) current member registered under a new nice to:
b1) troll ps2 and make its fans look bad
b2) long suffering ps2 fans vennting all his hopey hopes of ps2 tech

 :p
