Image Quality and Framebuffer Analysis for Available/release build Games *Read the first post*

:???: It takes a screen shot and colour adjusts it. What has that got to do with...anything?!

The mod for diablo changes the D3D shaders, "the screenshots and color adjustments" is really screenshots with the different shader settings. One of the options is reducing the Blur, which apparently is intended by Blizzard, the other is color changes.

Are you really sure of that? Because they look just like colour grading to me. Oh, okay. It literally is just a colour grading change, and the scale isn't performance (simple >> complex pixel shaders) but just a tweak on the visual style for users to toy with. If this is a mod, I'm guessing it's to adjust the colourful graphics.

Still not seeing the relevance to console game rendering resoltuions though. ;)

hi guys...
what do you think about Max Payne 3 on 360?
i have some doubts regarding 720p...

There's definitely something funky going on with their post-processing and lighting that's screwing up a lot of edges...

The artefacting looks similar to how Volition does their mixed resolution lighting/G-Buffer with a 720p material pass.

Thank you...

by the way, this strange rendering outcome seems to be negligible or totally absent in ps3 version, wich looks definitely crisper

the 360 picture with the blue van was what led me to think it was sub hd...
apparently i was wrong... :p

Yeah... if you look at the picture of the blue van crashing into the wall (side view), you can actually make out the right side of the driver window being 1:1. The rest of the edges look fubar (lit edges and the normals).

In the lower left of the screen, you can see the concrete edge actually is 720p, but there's a 1 pixel high blur (non-uniform here presumably due to FXAA) on every other step.

Here's a zoom-in of another screenshot that shows the artefact more obviously:

The arrows are pointing at the 1 pixel high blur on top of every other regular step (which is the 720p material pass). Of course, when you zoom out, it looks like a double wide step indicative of a half-height render target due to the colour shades. In other words, a blending of two different res buffers, which again is fairly reminiscient of Volition's Inferred Lighting, but that's just a guess.

Who knows what else is going on. :p

thank you very much...

you've been very clear with your explanation... :D
i will follow carefully your future argumentation in order to move my first passes in this (complex) world...

thanks again!!

The green dots indicate the steps, which turn out to be 1 pixel tall, confirming 720p (at least for what looks like the material render pass).

As it somehow does not seem to be mentioned in the List of Rendering Resolutions, yet:

Anyone here who would be able to figure out the native rendering resolution and AA of "Need for Speed: The Run" for PS3 and Xbox 360:

http://www.lensoftruth.com/head2head-need-for-speed-the-run-demo-screenshot-comparison/

?

And would the demo and final retail versions be the same in this regard? Or are there any differences between the demo and final retail versions in this regard?

Anyone :D;)?

Furthermore from those videos:

http://www.gamersyde.com/news_our_360_videos_of_nfs_the_run-12223_en.html

it seems like as if the demo versions and final retail versions might differ in this regard because in those videos it seems like there would be black bars at the top and bottom of the picture in the Xbox 360 version whereas in the demo screenshots shown there:

http://ps360.ldblog.jp/archives/53059838.html

http://www.lensoftruth.com/head2head-need-for-speed-the-run-demo-screenshot-comparison/

there do not seem to be black bars at the top and bottom of the picture in the Xbox 360 version :D;)?

Anyone here who would be able to figure out the native rendering resolution and AA of "Need for Speed: The Run" for PS3 and Xbox 360 final retail versions :D?

Couldn't really tell much from the gamersyde stuff other than 1280x704 1:1. There's some sort of edge filter, but I can't tell if it's actually better than the 360 demo or if it's the compression making the gradients smoother on particular edges. The 360 demo uses FXAA for sure, but it looks different from the gamersyde shots. I guess the devs updated the 360 version from 720p to 1280x704. *shrug*

The PS3 demo is 1280x704 and uses MLAA, judging by the ps360blog.

Will have to wait for better shots for anything conclusive.

What about them?

What are you trying to imply? - That GS is adding black borders or ps360 is removing them only from 360?

No :D.

But aren't "Need for Speed: The Run" and "Battlefield 3" utilizing the same engine ("Frostbite 2") :D;)?

And those posts (and the discussions around them):

http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1585454&postcount=2932
http://forum.beyond3d.com/showpost.php?p=1591070&postcount=2967

somehow seem to suggest that "Battlefield 3" for Xbox 360 was 1280x720 in some beta versions or whatever and 1280x704 in the retail version?

Similar to what you seem to suggest so far for the "Need for Speed: The Run" Xbox 360 demo version and retail version :D?

That's what was meant with somehow sounding a bit familiar ;).
