I was right, RE4 does have the GC's best lighting.

Is it known what "type" of control-system this game has, i´m interested because i couldn´t play the earlier Resident Evil games on GC because of the weird/horrible controls.

Is the bright white 'lighting flash' lighting the only kind of lighting in RE4, or does it have softer ambient light, or even a light source (light a flash light)? Just wondering if the game is a one trick pony, like NFS: Underground (where the entire game looked the same heh).

And yes, I've seen all the trailers, I just don't study them like some partisans ;)

Cyborg:
You dont have weapons apparently, and the ghosts try to scare you to kill you, augmenting your pulse and ultimately (havent seen it happen in the trailer though) die from an heart attack.
That idea sounds similar to Illbleed.

In reality people can get frozen in terror in these situations or die on the spot from a heart attack or just panic and do something incredibly stupid. But this is a game, its not reality and your not going to panic like you would in real life.
In the original RE there is a passage with windows ... and dogs that suddenly jumped through the windows. I was playing with friends and i can tell you we all did panic a bit ;)

I think they improved RE4 already quite a bit, i saw an extended trailer and it shows the menu and a few other things. Fortunately they got rid of that old thing that never changed since the original RE. Also picking up items doesn't delay the game anymore now. Now they only need to fix that "Item XYZ is no longer needed, do you want to throw it away?" question!! That useless question always bothered me.

Not being able to drop stuff was a HUGE problem to me. (Solved in RE0)
I think they'll reallly make something closer to current games in ease of use, yet the inventory will need to be limited to increase the stress level.
You don't stress when you have 50 phoenix dawn (FF) or healing potions or for RE red+green plants combos...

Do you have an url for that extended trailer ?!

Yep, that's sounds like Illbleed.
That's a little OT but Illbleed was sadly an underated game if you ask me, it has a lot of excellent ideas, and very little flaws.
Climax Graphics should do a sequel to that game, correcting the flaws such as the story, the overall feeling of "unpolished game", etc...
BTW what happened to Climax Graphics, their Web site is down. http://www.cgstudio.co.jp/

The Wayback machine shows that the site has been taken down.

Li Mu Bai have you noticed the heat distortion effect caused by the flames and explosions. If you look closely in the vid, when Leon fires the rpg into the crowd of monks you can see the heat distortion or shock wave that occures. Its amazing to say the least.

It'd be stupid if the character just froze in terror at the start and got eaten, or died of a heart attack :)

That would be really cool actually! Imagine... just encounter an enemy and BOOM "Game Over" from heart attact... ;)

So I don't really see your complaint against Res Evil 4's controls here.
Woah there, I thought we were talking about Res Evil 4's controls being a problem not the problem with the interface of all games today

No no no i'm not complaining about RE4 at all! I was saying "in general". I haven't played RE4 so i can't really tell... ;) I know i went a bit off-topic on the control issue. I'm a control freak what can i say

About the heart attack thing.....you should play illbleed on dreamcast or ps2, that can happen!(though personally, I'd say illbleed's gameplay is closest to luigi's mansion, but I'm wierd)

Flashlights, fires, gunshots, and explosions.
BTW, I think the NFS:U engine was used for the driving parts in James Bond Everything or Nothing(since EA tends to always use their latest need for speed engine in those games), and it has daytime parts that look like ass....still very wet looking, and very bad looking.(well, at least for part of the game, some of the driving levels don't have the wet look at all, but they don't have any lights at all either)

And wasn't illbleed by jaleco or something?

The PS2 version of Illbleed has been cancelled, iirc. :D

No, I hadn't. Similar to WW & MP's distortion effects? I'll check the video again.

You are insanely annoying.

Because I am excited about some software & post some technically impressive observations regarding it? Then Panajev, DM, & a host of others should annoy you as well.

I really don't understand why he needs to be like that. for no apparent reason he calls you annoying? I've said before cyba should be banned and this just supports that.

That's what ClockTower3 gameplay is based around actually. Fear meter that ultimately kills you if it goes too high.

Capcom has all kinds of crazy stuff in their RE4 game engine. If you watch the older trailers where Leon is inside the mansion with the fireplace etc. There's lots of nice shadows not to mention rain, smoke, wind, dust. Then there's that glowing enemy monster with distortion wielding the chain weapon or the flowing drapes.

In the current trailer when that huge Ogre monster swings at Leon you see a bunch of dust being thrown into the surroundings accompanied by motion blur. That monster scene looks incredible. And yes there's that heat distortion effect from the blowtorch and canon explosions. The swamp water looks crazy too very fluid with layers of debri moving around.

Some of these special effects were already awesome in RE0 and RE1, but it's truly amazing when all of those effects are now being done with huge open areas and all realtime!

Anyone know if that's all vertex? Or an amalgamation similar to say Splintercell. (some per-pixel, some vertex, projected light maps, etc.)

Hey, why can't all per pixel be an option? Unless it's not possible, but from my limited understanding, gamecube has very fast per pixel shading, but it's very memory intensive(which gamecube doesn't have a lot of) and limited in functionality.

In all the recent video i saw, it looked like there was only vertex lighting (and maybe some projected lightmaps, not sure though).
Anyway that's an impressive game, the number of highly detailed characters on screen alone is enough for me to say that RE4 is an nice piece of programing from the Capcom's Studio 4.
I'm really looking forward for this game, i didn't enjoyed playing a RE since RE2, this new episode is exactly what the serie needed "new blood". :devilish:

It's feasible, as all of RS3 was per-pixel. But the animations (vertex data) are so much more varied & complex, I suggested a blending to lessen the possible load put upon the Gekko. (due to the custom lighting & procedural animation)
