Heavenly Sword update (E3 cometh..)

hmmm... I guess I must have watched the video from a bad source, as to me the animation was only ok. Same with the models, they looked a bit too edgy compared to others.
I hope it was just a jerky video that skipped frames.
Or maybe there was just too much happening on screen that it was hard to see the quality.
But, as I said I only watched it once, must check it again.

Really? Im watching the HD footage taken off the show floor from Gamespot and my jaw was just on the floor at how varied and fluid it all was. The main character's attacks are a bit "swishy" and emphasized on finesse (as opposed to say the meaty hits in GoW), but I think that goes with the whole Crouching Tiger feel of the thing. I was also impressed with the rag dolls, they seemed to be a lot more natural than past Havok implementations.

Next-Gen's E3 blog - Heavenly Sword, Game of the show? In particular the animation is highlighted.

It’s a solid line-up but not an overwhelming one yet. The sole exception is Heavenly Sword from UK developer Ninja Theory. If it’s not game of the show, I’d like to play the game that will be.

What’s really impressive isn’t the graphics, but the animation. The main character, Nariko, has over a thousand animations, which are all blended smoothly together, allowing you to crisply perform incredible attacking moves, before immediately evading away using the right analogue stick.

Talking to lead programmer Dean Calvert, he says while the game doesn’t use anything like the full power of Cell, it does use all six available SPU cores at certain times, notably for animation, the dynamic shadowing system and Havok’s physics engine.

Deano Calver? You only need to check the "Developer Forums".
Though, what kind of name is "Deano", sounds more like some cartoon character ;)

No doubt, it is not all that hard to find poly edges on the enemies when you look for them, but on the other hand that is expected frm all the games that feature so many characters on screen at the same time...

(Look down and draw little circles in the sand with my right foot)
Deano and nAo, will it have co-op or free online game play ? :D
I will send you custom T-shirts "We use all the SPE cores" or "We are more hardcore than Ken" if the answer to either of the above is yes.

My main problem with this game is that it's bound to be a short one. Ninja Theory you guys are doing an awesome job and must be under lots of pressure to get this delivered by end of September.

There's just no way this game will be more than 6 or 7 hours of gameplay. Can I be wrong?
Yes, you can be wrong.
Ninja Theory didn't start working on the game this year, you know.

I just saw HS trailer at gamestraliers. Just Awesome.

BTW, who was the person playing the game during presentation? nAo, were that you? :D

That's not nAo, it's Tameem Antoniades, one of the founder of NT.

In Italy Dino (same pronounciation as Deano) is a very common name ;)

I talked to Deano at the booth for good half an hour watching the game and didn't realise it was him! His biz card said "Dean" Calver but my brain was so fried from standing in line 3 hours for Wii and didn't put 2 and 2 together.

I'm going to have to eat my words when I said the animation in Heavenly Sword didn't look that good to me.

I checked the video again from a different source, and I must say the animation indeed is great especially on the main character. There's some too visible clipping on the hair, which is kinda distracting as it's otherwise so polished.

Still the thing that grates me in HS, and in many of the games of same genre, is it's animations are a bit too fast which to me makes it look just chaotic. And there's just too much happening on screen so you could really appreciate it's beauty.
I hate the juggling animations in these games too, but that's just me and nothing that's wrong in particular in Heavenly Sword.

It looks fantastically playable though, and even while I'm not a fan of these type of games, I might buy it for a quick adrenaline fix and a graphical showcase.
Good job Ninja Theory, and congratulations on being one of the most impressive showings in E3 according to many.

Yes the animation is top notch from what I have seen

The way she transitions between moves and into the air is beautiful.

well done!
