Halo Anniversary

I would donate a kidney to get the Arbiter back in, somehow.

I liked him even more than MS Chef. Some of the Halo 2 Arbiter stuff near the end was awesome.

Yeah, the Arbiter was pretty cool - I didn't get all the whining about his inclusion as a playable character.

I thought it made for a suprising mix-up to the campaign.

Agreed. I really really liked the cinematics he's been in too, even downloaded the captures from hbo to be able to watch them. Pretty good stuff altogether, cinematography, voice acting, even if the visuals weren't as nice back then.

I get what you are saying but I think that, at the same time, the new trilogy gives them a chance at a new begining, to do something different in a new world and a new setting with a new and different team.
Agreed. I love the Halo formula, but I think I'm ready for something a bit different.

I always liked how the Spartans were portrayed as extremely agile yet powerful in the books, but it was a disappointment seeing how Master Chief controlled like a tank in the games. It'd be a nice change of pace if they finally made him behave like how a Spartan is supposed to. Crysis 2's parkour-like running, sliding, and wall-scaling would be something I'd like to see in a Halo game.

Of course, that's just me.

I hope it goes in that direction as well seeing as the books make them very badass soldiers with excellent fighting prowess.

Since he was a Spartan II, I wish they would have made Jorge more badass in Reach, even if only in cutscenes. Like at the end of Winter Contingency when the gang is ambushed by those Zealot class elites. They should have made Jorge get medieval on at least one of them, showing what a Spartan II is really capable of. Little things like that would reinforce how badass Spartan IIs like Jorge and the Master Chief are.

That is probably why i want sprint and jetpack be included as standard skills of the master chief. Ditch the rest of the AA and have overshield and camo be map pickups again.

I think Reach's armor abilities are fine. Sure, some don't make sense if you're playing team slayer on a small map, but in Big Team Battle and Invasion they really are quite useful. They certainly make more sense than a magic "power up" that temporarily changes your armor capabilities.

I guess the problem with melee was that in combination with sprint it allowed for some cheap kills. Just rush in, press B twice and you're done. New system puts some more emphasis on actually shooting the enemy even in close quarters, leaving melee as a last resort option (as it should be imo).

Armor lock was just plain annoying, it slowed down the game too much. Now it should work more like overshield from H3 which makes more sense. Still gives you an advantage, still can save you in a tight situation but at least it does not make you totally invincible. It was ridiculous.

Anyway, if I understand correctly those are beta changes that will be introduced in selected playlists and tested by the community before they are introduced globally (or at all). Some things may still change.

I hope those options are not forced on all playlists. It's really quite lame to nerf armor abilities at this point. They already have alternate playlists that remove some/all of those armor-abilities anyways for those grieffers.

If you think armor-lock makes you totally invincible then you totally fail at knowing how to negate and combat it completely.

Well, it does make you invincible, isn't that the whole point of armor lock? It just slows down the game too much for me. I can just stand there, waiting for the guy to exit AL to "finish the fight", walk away or spam some granades. I don't find any of those options particularly fun, especially compared to how combat looks in matches without AL. IMO it makes more sense for AL to soak up damage, not negate it.
I agree though that global changes like that could be problematic at this point. I imagine that matches where players on both sides are skillfully using AL in its current form (and as a team) can be quite intense. And what's the point in making armor abilities more acceptable for people who don't like them anyway. We'll see how it works in the "beta" i guess.

Well, I typically only play Invasion and some BTB, and in those playlists AL doesn't seem to slow down the game or be abused. In fact, it's quite handy when there's an enemy Banshee, Wraith, or Scorpion about.

Also, I don't see a problem with melee either. I prefer a more powerful melee as opposed to a weaker one. Same with grenades.

I just hate it when they try to fix stuff that isn't broken. They've done this with Halo 2 (melee, grenades, BR) and Halo 3 (melee, grenades?). IMO, Reach has the most balanced MP so far, but I guess they're gonna change that too.

So? That's a legitimate offensive use of the sprint armor ability (pretty much the only one it has, unless you have a sword of hammer). And an experienced player would simply shoot or grenade the oncoming attacker to get rid of his shields and then melee him, or simply trade kills by returning the double hit - any other outcomes are due to the victim simply being unaware of his surroundings which is not a real objection.

Well, armor lock is pretty fantastic to use yourself and generally a pain when someone else is using it - but yeah the biggest complaint is proabably that it slowed the game down too much. I think it was a bad idea to remove its ability to reject sticky grenades as armor lock did offer some recourse to people who hated being stuck (which is also a cheap tactic to get easy kills).

Hopefully, yes - but three hit melee kills are ridiculous, will make combat even slower than it already (is compared to 3). People seem to forget than melee is and has always been a core pillar of Halo MP gameplay and should remain a more viable option in close quarters combat than ranged weapons like ARs.

AFAIK, some of those changes are only for the classic Halo CE playlists while other changes are for the game in general. They did say that if you want to play the game in it's unaltered pre-patch state, they will still have those playlists as well.

The only thing I don't like about armor lock is the ability to dislodge a sticky grenade after it's been stuck on the player. I can understand someone having the skill and timing to deflect a sticky headed their way, but to get rid of a grenade that's already stuck is BS IMO.

There should be no reason why the shields should be able to recharge whilst in AL (that is, towards the end of a full usage cycle). The fusion pack in the armour has enough to handle as it is... *shrug* To that end, I think we'd see less spamming during regular combat if they nixed that particular bonus.

It's too bad AL doesn't appear as it should in game - locked armour joints and spartan falling over on his face. :p har har
