Halo 5: Guardians [XO]

Blah blah blah...what's the resolution? I cant enjoy the graphics until I know, And "dynamic" is a non answer, mostly.

Joking, a little.

I dunno, looks pretty sterile, the grunts chatter was awesome in Halo 1 then on cue with the series losing it, various degrees of lame and annoying after. I've lost some hype for this, but no way I wont buy it day 1.

Man 60fps really hurt the shit out of the graphics, I really don't think the campaign benefits at all from the fast framerate, feels like Halo 4 remastered looks better to me.

i assure you, it doesn't in any possible way

Have you seen more footage that we haven't? Coz from here it's not very promising, gonna play the campaign either way tho since I enjoyed Halo 4's story from 343i.
From what I compare visually checking my tv from MCC to the high quality footage it does not compare. I just went back to double check, and it just doesn't compare. In particular PBR makes a huge difference, h4 @ 1080/60 still looks like a last gen game, just smoother and sharper. H5 has some properties of a next gen game, not with all the bells and whistles, but its there. You should watch it again, H4 is not capable of the lighting in H5, nor does it have the complexity of the geometry found in H5. Everywhere look in H5, texture etc, far surpass Halo 4 MCC. Running them side by side is night and day. If you're going off purely memory, I don't think that's going to work.

I thought it looked pretty good. I'm not sure how this always on AI co-op will work out for me, but I'm very happy with the graphics so far.

From what I understand, S2 can only operate their armour. But I could be wrong

Cheers.

Would make sense if the augmentation for the new (and improved) armour was different. And with so few Spartan IIs left, and with them getting on a bit now and no new ones coming along, it probably wouldn't be worth developing new armour for them. You could put and interesting spin on the old super soldiers becoming obsolete.

On a different note, I'm hoping at the end of Halo 5 you form an Ultra Team of Chef, Arby, Buck and Australian Marine (no helmet edition).

Im hoping that Spartan Locke is dead and gone by the second level of Halo 5.

It's a funny thing though that the undersuit model for S2 and S4 armors is the same in H4/5.

Yea, there really is no comparison between Halo 5 graphically and Halo 4 MCC. The textures and lighting are on an entirely different level in Halo 5. Even things like the weapon effects - and effects in general - are noticeably superior. The complexity of the geometry is also a big step up.

Dynamic resolution double confirmed. Final now I guess (blech)

60fps gameplay is supported by a new progressive resolution system that allows us to dynamically scale the resolution at which we render the game (up to 1080p) based on the needs of the scene. This enables us to deploy resources where they have most impact across a diverse series of experiences throughout the game while delivering the most visually stunning Halo game ever.

Some sections of a mission might be relatively quiet and achieving 60fps is straightforward, but there are many situations where we dial the intensity up to 11. At those times, we need to maintain 60fps and give players the total experience from both a design and artistic perspective. This is where our new progressive resolution system comes into play, allowing the game to scale resolution dynamically as the experience gets more intense and complex. In much of the campaign you may be playing at 1080p, but when we want to get really crazy with vehicles, visual effects and combat we can trade some of the resolution in order to maintain the crucial 60fps. Without this system, we would need to either reduce the scale of our most intense combat encounters or lower the quality of content across the game in order to stay at 60 fps at all times. With progressive resolution, we get the best of both worlds: epic scale experiences that look incredible while running at a consistent 60fps.

Would at least like to know the floor resolution...

I have no issue with this. In all cases dynamic resolution is a win in my book with the exception of competitive multiplayer.

I imagine it floors close to 900p. Or the horizontal equivalent of it but at 1080 vertical lines. But it would be interesting to see if they ever went below and dropped it to 792p levels.

Curious if the resolution changes on its own depending on the action, or if the level designers flag parts of the maps known to be "action" areas.

Don't really care what the floor is. Just interested in knowing how it works.

Same here. And considering how dynamic resolution got such glowing reviews on PSP/VITA and PS3 games that used it, I'd think people would be quite happy with it in this game. Especially since it allows for 60 FPS gameplay which is the only thing that has me even considering buying this title.

Hunt the Truth season 2 begins tomorrow! Mark Hamill is now part of the cast! Yay!
I really enjoyed season 1, and it single handedly got me into the lore of Halo (after which I started doing a lot of googling of the EU to get caught up)
Season 2 will end at release of Halo 5
