Halo 4

Actually not entirely, the lower picture is from Spartan Ops which is the cooperative multiplayer.
Sort of something midway between the two - has to support 4 players and enemy AI, instead of 16 players and no enemies. But I don't think the graphics engine would be any different... weapon tuning and such, sure, but everything else should not be changed.

Well... Campaign/Spartan Ops vs War Games ;)

Yeah but he said he likes one multiplayer screenshot less than the other, but there's not supposed to be any difference ;)

I guess it is the same engine, but there are different effects depending game mode, campaign = 1-4 players, Spartan ops = 1-4?, War games = 2-16 players?

A lot of games usually have different graphic effects if playing campaign or multiplayer maps.

Offtopic: but has there ever been a difference in a Halo game when comparing 'single player' (has to support coop play) to the multiplayer with regards to color depth, shader precision, etc?

Different team, but still.

So I was watching the Gamespot Halo 4 Forge video and I noticed something weird.

At around 2:42, the monitor is moving a forge piece into position (Oddly, the piece is projecting it's shadow in the wrong direction. Perhaps the piece has just been rotated since its lighting was last generated.) and some weird (Bounced?) light shows up.
Here is a .GIF of the part in question:

What's interesting is what happens on the railing of the piece that the arrow in the upper right corner is pointing too. As the camera comes closer, some bounced lighting shows up, brightening the vertical portion as well as the shadow. Does this look like some kind of approximated real-time GI to anyone? It looks kind of similar to Crysis 2's Cascaded LPV Diffuse GI to me:

What do you guys think/speculate?

Yeah, it seems that the lighting engine was seriously upgraded and that's probably one of the reasons for some compromises that antwan pointed out. They seem to have traded off a few features like motion blur for FXAA and whatever for better lighting and so on. So it's not a downgrade, just rearranging resource usage. It also suggests that the better looks aren't related to just better artwork.

So it seems there'll be a live action launch trailer on top of Forward Unto Dawn, debuting on the 18th in Late Night Jimmy Fallon.

Oh and it was directed by the completely unknown
David Fincher
.

I have been watching the Campaign and War Room footage and so far I like everything I see. I like the new Dominion mode, I like the Mantis Mechs, I like the load outs, I like the indicators for power weapons, I like the death cam, etc. I think 343 has done a good job being faithful to the core of Halo while not being afraid to try new things and when necessary borrow from other FPS. Campaign cut scenes look good and the new enemy design is cool imo. And the one SpartanOps map I saw was a classic huge sandbox--which I approve of.

So far I am very pleased with how it is shaping up.

See my previous post… Multiplayer need to not be eyes tired… so less shiny.
And also on resource board, the engine need to be a 30fps solid lock. So you probably target under the 33ms of render, 30ms seem good security target? Less time, less visual. Framerate is the "King" for Multiplayer and network Lag is his "Fool". ;)

A word of warning: the game has already been leaked and spoilers may pop up anywhere...

Sadly, its already been leaked in Mexico and some people are playing the campaign while on Xbox Live.I hope those people get permabanned and MS has taken off all of the videos off of Youtube.I'm remaining spoiler free until launch night and won't let some assholes ruin it for me.

*spoilers*

Grunt mini-campaign featuring Fafap, BiFil, DynLi, and PePew.
1 million grunts
Cortana's got the blues.
Chief is actually dead and post-Halo 2 to present has just been Cortana's imagination/descent into madness.
Final boss is Ronald MacDonald.

As a child, I thought Ronald McDonald was the scariest dude ever. I freaking hate clowns, even to this day.

Dammit NRP - Spolier alert!

Now I cannot go out and buy this game because the suspense is gone.

BTW, I hate clowns too....have you seen the Stephen King mini-series "IT". Scariest clown ever.

I just finished watching the Halo 4 Prologue and some gameplay from the opening level and it looks quite beautiful to be honest with you guys.Atmosphere is top-notch along with the sound design as well.Just be warned that the Legendary ending has been uploaded on Youtube and should be avoided at all costs.

I seriously cannot believe the Xbox 360 is running this as is.

The hell 343i?

The wait till release is painful.
