Halo 2 reviews

Not many Halo 2 reviews out there yet so it was a quite suprise to see a finnish magazine to have a review of the game in their newest edition. The magazine called Pelit gave Halo 2 96%. According to them, levels, sounds, graphics, weapons etc are all top notch, only negative thing is that co-op doesn't work in XBox Live.

Sounds promising.

(about the 96%, I don't think that the magazine has given such a high score sine IL-2 was released).

I just read the review too.

Not many negative points in the review; The mentioned co-op missing from Live and that the game is basically a scripted "corridor" shooter.
Also some minor glitches in AI (sometimes the AI runs blind towards obstacles...) and twoplayer graphis flickering black occasionally.

There was one thing about the graphics I didn't know, and I don't think I've seen in screenshots. They said the graphics have some kind of "oil painting like" filter over them, that makes the effect very "personal".

In the US, the Official XBox Magazine gave Halo 2 a 9.7 (out of 10). They said basically the same things as the Finnish magazine. According to the reviewer, the only real complaint was the ending was sort of anti-climactic, considering all the intense action leading up to it. They didn't comment on the multiplayer, since they reviewed the game while it was being mass produced. Nevertheless, it's probably safe to assume the multiplayer is going to own.

I don't quite understand "oil painting".... :?:

Like character highlights ala Jade Empire?

I think at this point no reviewer can give this game less than a 9.5, 9.0 would already be considered a failure after the mind-boggling hype. And the XBOX fans would simply massacre them! I wonder if one reviewer will give the game a 7.0 just for the reaction :D

I am sure there will be someone out there who will dislike Halo 2 and will review it. The question is how far-fetched the review will be. The original Halo had significant problems, IMO (I actually didn't like it that much). They were present enough for a semi-accurate negative review. If Halo 2 is all it's cracked up to be, though, the review would have to read something like this:

This game is a Halo killer. It absolutely killed all attraction I had for the series.

In the process of selecting my control options, it made my Xbox die. In order to fix it, I had to pawn my engagement ring. When my fiancee found out, she left me and took the car. Without my car, I couldn't go to work. I was already expendable, so I got fired after a single no-show. While waiting for my Xbox to come back, my landlord threw me out of my apartment. Oh yes, I almost forgot. Before my Xbox returned, my dog ate the Halo 2 disc and died. So now I am a homeless, dogless bum because of Halo 2, and the disc is rather unusable with all the canine chyme all over it.

OXM UK, Australian OXM, and XBN have all given it 10/10. Famitsu Xbox gave it a 37/40, and regular Famitsu gave it a 34/40.

10 in Game Informer as well.

i don't understand people or magazines that give games a perfect 10 . that's just not right (not regarding halo2 but any game)

10 is just a score, it's no different than *****, 5, A+, 100% or any other rating. I don't see it so that a score of 10 should be some absolute perfection that no game could have, as no game will ever be absolutely perfect. There will always be flaws in games, be they because of hardware limitations or game design.
Thus there is no need to "reserve" the score of 10 for something that will never happen.

It'd be a funny old world if no-one could get a grade 'A' for assignments at school or 1sts at uni because, in reality, no-one is 'perfect'. :p

Is it true you play as a Elite Covenant about 50% of the game??

rabidrabbit put a giant "spoiler warning" before your post.

I suppose there are no 5 star hotels, either?
And that no movie is worthy of two thumbs up?

rabidrabbit, the answer to your question is a big yes.

Right now I personally think Halo 2 is being a bit overrated. Maybe that will change once I play the final english version tuesday and try it out online, but I can't help but be underwhelmed by the leaked french version.

Well, EGM's newest issue gives Halo 2 a 'perfect' score, with 10/10/10...tied with GTA:SA for GOTM award. This info comes from some of the reviewers/writers at Ziff-Davis (EGM & XBN among others) on the GAF.

Please tell me you didn't just confirm a huge spoiler without warning ...

Playing a pirate copy early, then coming into threads about reviews to spoil a game before it's release ... what is it with the internet? :!:
