GTA V announced [2011] , [2021-11-11]

I like what they've said here, but it could also be a bit annoying depending upon how it is implemented.

I'm interested to see how this supposedly persistent world is going to work with things like the stock market if you can just buy all the money you need as long as you want to spend actual real world dollars.

The rest of GTA Online sounds amazing.

Also - anybody hear anything about GTA V not playing on "older" Xbox's? I've had no problems (knock on wood) with mine which isn't the oldest, but also isn't exactly new (it's still a "fat").

I do not have a problem with Franklin himself...in fact, he somehow seems quite reasonable...just a bit weak and caught in his group behavior.

What I don't like is his 'bros' and the missions he had so far...especially the gangsta rapper tone...

I like playing with Franklin because I find Lamar hilarious with his wise cracks especially during one particular mission when another specific character is involved.

I also like taking Chop out since having an attack dog provides a bunch of laughs when clowning around.

Plus I find his individual mission mid and late game to be better than the others.

Michael's individual mission is more about resolving his issues with his family and Trevor doesn't seem to have anything other Strangers and Freak missions late in the game. Plus once you get beyond the early stages of the game, Franklin moves away from the gansta missions

I've recently been taken with the perverse voyeurism of loitering around the lower levels of Mount Chiliad and watching those evil bastard cat things attack hikers ;-)

I'm wondering who would win, cat or dog. Would you like to conduct a scientific experiment? :devilish:

I wonder if you can teach Chop to hunt. If so, I might take Franklin to Ammunation and get some more rural clothing and take an excursion to the mountains.

Hunting was one of my favorite past times in RDR. The first time I ran across a mountain lion in GTA 5 it was just growl, utter confusion on my part and then 2 seconds later I'm cat food.

Haha. yeah. I remember thinking: Hey, this is like Red De.. <wrowrllll running feet death>. Oh bugger ;)

Are any of the rest of you screwing around in the Social Club features for GTA V?

I signed up for it before I started my game (Lifehacker, etc), but just went back into it for the first time.

When I first played the game, I went to ammunation to buy my first weapon! YAY! I bought the only thing I could afford, a knife.

And then I left the store and tried to select my knife and it wasn't there! I'm still not sure what exactly happened, because I did lose the money. Maybe it fell on the floor and I didn't pick it up? I'm not sure, but when I went to Social Club and pulled up Franklin and looked at his stats I had a notice on my wall saying "LOST! Have you seen my melee weapons?" With a picture of my hunting knife and phone number to call.

Truly hysterical.

I can't believe it has that level of sophistication.

Talking about which ... If people get into a random shootout in the street, can you steal their guns? I kicked someone to bits who was shooting from behind a car at a rival gang, but didn't think about it. Another time a car was being chased by police. I helped the police by blocking the car after which they got out and a shootout ensued, with the police swiftly killing them and then just leaving. Didn't think to try and get their guns then either.

first I was like: weapons disappearing (=bugs) in a GTA title?
But then when reading the rest of you post   :love:

Jesus.

Okay, I need some help. I just don't get it. But it's part of GTA that I've never been able to get, which is to get away with the higher wanted levels.

I'm not going to spoiler this one because I don't think it needs to be, but if so, I'll spoiler it later or somebody can do it for me if I don't get to it in time.

FIRST HEIST MISSION. I decided to go hard. (Not my choice. I'm more of a smooth and calculating guy, but my girlfriend was there and I asked her which to choose and this is what she wanted. So YES it is ALL HER FAULT.)

Anyway, not to spoiler anything but you have to grab a police vehicle. Fine, finally able to do that, but once I do (and that in itself took like 10 tries), I get 3 stars and can't get away. I tried just out running them and hiding, I've tried driving to the safe house (they just sit outside and shoot you to death), and I tried the custom shop, but you can't customize a police vehicle.

I've looked on line for helps and tips and they all seem to act as if this part of the mission is so easy it isn't even worth talking about.

Is there some "GOTO TACTIC" that gets you out of 3 star wanted levels? Because that's when they launch the choppers and that's when I'm screwed. In mission or not.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

There is another mission where you have to steal a police vehicle and the approach it suggests is to swipe one from a police parking lot. You'll need to find where these are because unless a mission is directing you to one, they aren't shown on the in-game map but it was incredibly easy to leap over the wall, creep past the cops in the car park, enter a vehicle and drive off without any warnted stars.

If you're still struggling, go the the countryside and call a cop car via the emergency services, jack it and just drive off across the terrain. Unless you're really unlucky you won't get encounter any cops and you'll lose the wanted star loitering in the middle of nowhere.

Losing the cops is actually pretty easy, the trick is losing line of sight with the pursuing officers. In past GTA games the instinct was to floor it and outrun pursuers but this really doesn't work because they can see pretty far and the cops are actually pretty good and hard drivers. They also radio your direction to their buddies so if you go in a straight line, another car will often intercept you. What you want to do is take many corners so they lose line of sight, so pick an area where you can zig-zag away taking lots of turns, or even driving round and round the same block until you can break away in another direction. You can also jack the car, take it a few blocks, then switch cars or take to foot and go stealth and hide behind a wall or in an alley. Again, if you're out of sight you're fine. I've had cop cars drive right past me but if they're looking the wrong way, or looking for the car you were in before, you'll usually be be safe - unless they're right in front of them they are easy to evade. It's a lot more realistic than past games.

I trust you know how the radar works? If the whole radar is flashing red/blue then the cops can see you. Once they lose line of sight, the radar changes to show their cones of vision. Spend a while playing with the cops, once you've sussed out when they can and can't see you, you'll have no problems losing them. Helicopters are trickier of course, but again they have line of sight too. Changing cars in underpasses, under bridges, in carparks, all foil helicopters :)

Thanks Soup! Those tips helped.

As I was telling Azbat the other day, I had a sudden flash of brilliance while playing the second part of the first heist that I kept getting lost on: These police chases and escapes (or not) are actually the core game play and the part of the game that is supposed to be FUN.

It's really the only challenging part of the game, so I tend to get frustrated instead of excited. But once I had a bit of success (thanks to DSoup's tips), and the realization to just relax and understand it might take a few tries, they became a lot more fun!

I'm really stoked about GTA Online, I hope they do a great job implementing it. RDR had a very robust multiplayer, so if they just expand on that, GTA Online could be a bigger deal that the initial game itself.

And if that's the case, I'm going to force Azbat to buy it! :D

Glad to have been of help :) And yes, I find the chases to be tremendous fun. Usually I'm not a fan of putting too much realism into a game but in GTA, more realistic police behaviour definitely enhances the game IMO. I used to loathe the old GTA cop circle where while you were in it, the cops magically knew where you were. You can now be really sneaky or really creative.

I'm also looking forward to Online. Just a few more days now :)

Thanks Campbells, I will give that a try and pay more attention to the radar than just trying to go 1000 miles per hour.

Cheers

Yeah I bunch of corner turning, waiting till the cops go Metal Gear on you and using alley ways to tuck away in pockets that are hidden from main streets is the way to go. Losing the cops is pretty easy even in a cop car.

I turn off the siren just to be safe.

The Scope and Depths of this game is so absurd that it's almost impossible to comprehend.

Has there been said anything about DLC?

Not that I've heard of, I think their focus right now and for the foreseeable future is going to be on GTA Online. They've pretty much said they know it won't be perfect when it launches this week, and they are going to spend months after launch fixing it because of how people play.

I forget how long it was before the Lost and Damned came out for GTA IV but I'm thinking it was a pretty significant time after the original launch,

April 2008 for GTA IV, Feb 2009 for Lost and Damned on 360 (April 2010 for PS3).

The game really opens up once you meet Trevor. I am amazed how the three characters are all significantly different, live in very different parts of town with different friends and really make you feel like you are playing completely different characters.

I haven't found a fault with this game yet. Now, I haven't been looking for one, but nothing has jumped out yet and just smacked me in the face with "That's annoying" or "That looks awful" etc.

Well I hope they start work on the DLC soon and its as big or bigger than the TBOGT and LOD because the casino, horse track and stadium look ripe for the pickings. LOL.

I remember parachuting into the mountains, coming out behind the casino and horse track and going "This game represents the perfect opportunity to do a satire of beverly hills cop 2", especially because it involved series of heists.

This is the umpteenth time that I went to steal a Helicopter from the military base for my next heist in the sea and messed up ! This time I specially bought $2500 armour to make sure I come out alive out of there only to lose it to police shots . And when I finally reached near the base, i thought ,"ok, the base is just past this mountain!" Turned out the mountain was very high and my speed was abit too high maybe. my SUV flew for full 5 seconds before 'landing' right next to the base adn exploding  !

Time for my next attempt  !

I went on through the front door, wasted the 2 guards, ran left between the 2 fences and shot my way in, came across a jet fighter stole that and failed the mission.. I forgot I was on a mission when I got the chance to steal a jet fighter. Anyway, I used the approach the following 2 tries and it worked, I just took the chopper instead of the fighter :)
