GTA V announced [2011] , [2021-11-11]

What were your problems with the other ones?

I think one of the biggest improvements, that has gone sort of unmentioned, is that they've fixed their horrible shooting mechanics. That was a barrier for a lot of people really enjoying the game. They got a lot better with Red Dead Redemption, and then even better in Max Payne 3. This looks like a bit of both, but closer to RDR.

I, for one, am completely excited to be a mindless fanboy-drone for another GTA game.

For me the problem with GTA4 was it was, maybe trying to hard? Driving the cars weren't as fun, and Niko left me cold.. i just didn't care at all...

Supposedly Five is different :)

None of the GTA games really clicked with me much, and GTA4 was probably the worst - I thought Niko was pathetically bad. I preferred San Andreas a lot over that, held my interest longer (but came at a bad time, when I hadn't any gaming time outside of GT3-4).

GTA games are usually quite an event though - lot of my colleagues play it, will be the first game they play in a long time ...

Must.Resist.Tempation.To.Preorder.

It's a bit odd and quite stupid on my part, but every time a new GTA comes out, I get super-excited, pay my entry fee like an obedient, mindless fanboy-drone, and then I find out - again - that I really don't like R* games. Like, at all.

We should start a club, happens with Assassins Creed games also for my part.... :D

Yeah, same happens with me. All excited, bought and then found it too boring for my tastes. GTA 4 kept my interest for some time but again became that mundane chore of doing the same thing over n over again. RDR , for me too, was the only R* game that I loved !

Shooting mechanincs are definitely part of the problem, but lack of variety of gameplay and lack of real gameplay mechanics which require skill is a problem too. Everything is automated, you just have to do it. Thats how I felt in gta4.

The reason I actually enjoyed SR2 and SR3 was , one, they did not pretend they had a serious story or world and just let me have fun in various activities in the open world. Two, SR3 has robust shooting. In fact it is as much a TPS as any other TPShooter.

But whatever, the new liting tech which says lights won't fade away however far they maybe has me all excited again :D ! I wanna see that in action ! How the hell did they achieve that ????

I'm not very excited about this, although I'm not sure why. Maybe it's because this is another franchise that's obviously past it's prime, and has only been getting worse in later entries. I'll probably still get it though. But I'm going to wait for some user impressions before buying. There's no point in reading reviews for a game like this.

Yeah, thats the problem. i know the reveiws will all be like 9 and 10s, but that won't tell me anything about the game ! Is the game funner than GTA4? Does it let u have unabashed fun or keeps you restrained? Are the side activities fun like Tank Mayhem from SR?

Every review said that GTa4's city was spellbinding and how it was like a character of the game. I have never seen a drab city as that for a open world game to have fun in. The brown monotone didn't help either. I hope the new city is packed with side activities and I am not talking about playing Golf, tennis or Yoga but fun activities like 'game-y' fun ! Like maybe robbing banks, causing mayhem, stunt jumps, para gliding, plane races, bike stunts, etc in single player. Who the hell wants to do yoga poses in a game ? Or play tennis or golf in a gangsta game ? !?!?

That's how I felt about GTA4 as well. All these sites and reviews claiming it's the best thing since sliced bread, but I got bored because of the tedious tasks you could only do in an extremely limited (but detailed) city.

So far the trailers have demonstrated that R* has brought back a lot of the fun and crazy activities you could do in San Andreas for single-player and multiplayer. They haven't shown crazy stuff tanks and jetpacks though. I hope they're in the game as a surprise, I'd be sad if they don't have them...

Check out Gameplay Trailer 1 and Trailer 2 if you haven't seen them already.

yeah GTA V seems brings back lots of GTA SA features and improve it a few notches.
i cant imagine the fun it will become when people start modding.

GTA SA have horrible graphic but it was fun, especially with the multiplayer mod.

I think that's why I developed a preference of gameplay over graphics. SA was far from the best-looking game for it's time, but has one of the best sandbox experiences in gaming.

I do hope they revive and redesign the turf-war stuff, I hated repeatedly driving back-and-forth to take back territory every single time. The Godfather 2 was far from the being the best open-world game, but the RTS-like approach for turf-wars was more promising than San Andreas' way of doing it.

Either way, GTAV is shaping up to be an amazing game.

We get it, you guys preferred SA over 4, I'm sure that's why they're going back to SA (which I think is a mistake). Fine fine. I for one am glad GTA isn't Saint's Row, but I suppose as long as the radio is still good, we can rehash a bunch of cameos from old characters and it will be fine.

Well we were talking about how GTA4's gameplay possibilities were limited and how Nico Belic had a little personality.

Nobody is saying it has to be like Saint's Row where everything is crazy and waayyy over the top (no dildo clubs!), but be slightly OTT when going off the beaten path of the main storyline. Finding and messing around with unnecessary vehicles/weapons was one of the biggest draws to the GTA series, and GTA4 was lacking that. It's the same thing with exploration: different terrains to trek across, or standing on then jumping off buildings for the thrill of it.

I do like GTA4 trying to go for a more serious or emotional tone, but it still felt flat. I was playing someone who wasn't all that expressive, and gave me little reason to invest in their personal issues. I liked most of the side characters (Little Jacob!), but Niko wasn't likeable in any way to me.

The right amount of GTA4 and San Andreas mixed-in will go a long way, and that's what R* seems to be doing. So it's not a return to San Andreas (it's actually Los Santos as a whole), but what made SA work in the first place.

Yeah, I get it. I kinda miss the gameplay style of GTA 1 at times, too. GURUNGA!!! It's just that this thread is like 11 pages long now, and fully half of those pages are people saying they didn't like GTA IV as much. I'm not one of those people to say "this is not relevant to an upcoming release news thread", but... maybe we can limit the back and forth on it a little.* Actually, I hate to be a wet rag. Maybe I can just remember to not look in the thread for my most anticipated game of the decade.

* I liked GTA IV, SA was my favorite game of all time but I don't wanna see them retread old ground. Regardless, i'm not looking to change anyone's mind so... no need to reply to this.

On a different note, have you guys seen this: Mapping Los Santos on GTA forums http://www.gtaforums.com/index.php?showtopic=491242

I just saw it and it's prety crazy stuff. Acording to the post's dates, they've been speculating about the game's map since 2011 based on whatever they had to do it. The first post seems to have been updated with the latest info, so it's not very informative about how they started, but jeez. I was so amazed I went throgh the entire thread (in intervals of 10 pages, the thing has 1000 of pages...) but they had already gotten so much just from the first trailer and doing eyeballed triangulatios of buildings that apeared in different scenes. They perspective-corrected any aerial shots to get a perfectly flat bird-eyes views of certain sections of the map. Some guys did actually model places which they had multiple screenshots of to go from. They made a bunch of panoramas by stiching different frames from trailers with camera pans, they also stiched together the little pieces of the map they got from the HUD of the gameplay videos on the internet (which they also had to perspective-correct because the minimap is sligtly tilted back this time around) Even the little bits of the city's area that happened to apear in the rolled-up LA blue-print from a couple promotional image of the preorder pack were also stiched and agregated to everything else. I'm not sure if I'd recomend anyone spending their time on something as "usefull" as this, but it is impressive nonetheless.
But the most interesting part about this, is seeing the actual L.A's places and landmarks that inspired the building from the game, which are all discriminated on said thread. The atention to detail from Rockstar here is jaw dropping. It seems that basically every single building in this whole damn game is individually modeled and is based on one other actual building from L.A or other parts of SoCal or is an amalgam of multiple buildings into one. Even the main character's houses have real-world counterparts. When the guys post side-by-side comparisons of the game's screen-shots next to street-views or isometric satelite pics of small sider-road motels you see just how far their attention to detail went. If you live in L.A. this game is worth purchasing even if you can't play games at all. Just walk around and see how Rockstar characterised your city, and try to see if your house ended up in there.

SOny just announced something like if U preorder GTA V from PSN now, you will get 75% discount on other R* titles . I maybe a bit off, but thats what the deal is like. So, that vonfirms GTA V on PSN>
