GT4 on PS2 = Orgasmic!

but ... but .. it was Lucas himself who said the SW on PS2 thing! How can anyone not believe good ol Georgie boy! :p

Now now, dont make me sound bad just because i fell for the PS2hye. I am sure many many innocent gamers did. As it stands, an older and more mature me is not going for the PS3hype, or any Sonhype again. ;)

PS2 is the leading console today, there is no need for PS2 fans to deny the failed hyperbole. Lets keep it at that before i get accused of derailing this GT4 topic.

Im just hoping for more European cars... although the Lancer Evo is my baby, I'd still like to have an M3 and Jetta in the garage :)

Hey, there´s a really generous number of cars in the game (don´t know the exact ammount), so I think that no one will have to worry about that.

Oh, and chap, your post are redundant, you have made your point about you falling for the "PSHype" as you like to call it over and over again. EVERYONE GOT THE POINT ALREADY, let it go and post about something else, please.

Okahya!

Anyway back GT games, anyone played GT: Concept? How is the gfx over GT3? The background shimmering, is it still there?

"That is one bold prediction coming from someone who's been making other bold assessments of PS2 hardware being uncapable of DPL2 and progressive scan in Burnout 2?"

Uhm, I never said was was incapable, PS2 games usually use other forms of surround sound, its very unusual it be Pro Logic II..

and yes, I've seen the RS3 screens, they look exactly like RS2 with more polys and polish, you can see the pixels in the pics just fine, to tell its actual gameplay. Halo 2 wont look like its movies, I will give you that, but even in watching it, you can see the pixels and such..

I think when you drool over these pics, and then you play the game, there is going to be a drastic difference, because no matter how much you want to fight it, PS2 is not capable of that image quality.

I was a massive fan of the original GT on PS. Clocked it played it over and over again got all the best cars etc it lasted me for many many months.... ahh the joys of youth.

I expect the same for GT4... the only thing that will let it down for me is the damn crappy (IMHO) PS2 controller...I dont care about the gfx cos I know Polyphony will sort it out quite nicely. In fact I am still of the opinion GT3 is the most stylish and good looking racing game on any console and arcade (I didnt say technically so shhhshhh). :)

Get a wheel... It's what I use...

"Usually?" What other forms would fall under usually? Since DPL2 has been available most PS2 games that have any surround tend to use it (as it has supplanted the old Dolby Surround toolkit), otherwise it's DTS... However most of them are simply just stereo (with the option for mono).

Just to clarify:

Lol, that list is generic, you think everything on that list is on the PS2 version?

got a newsflash, PS2 cant do Dolby Pro Logic 2, and the pS2 version doesnt have progressive scan...

Tahir, you need a wheel if you don't like PS2 controller. Playing GT3 with a wheel is a whole other game anyways.

because no matter how much you want to fight it, PS2 is not capable of that image quality
True, but my point is, neither is GC capable of super-antialiased screens like this:

nor Xbox like this:
http://image.com.com/gamespot/images/2003/news/05/02/halo2/halo2_screen001.jpg

(Not a single edgy pixel to be seen on either)

Not to mention all those DOA2, DOA3, DOAX and whole bunch of other games that did the same. ALL developers do that nowadays, and what can you do. We all know image quality will not be exactly like that, but you can judge quality of geometry, lighting, textures, etc.

Actually if you go to the Lucas Arts website, the RS2 pics that are there look very similar to the game on GCN running in progressive on a VGA monitor.

There are other magazines that have received CD with those pics but have been instructed not to publish them before the E3. So it's about as legitimate as it gets. CD is marked with description that the pics are 'high res screens' not 'renders' or anything.
Wrong. The CD is marked with the description that they are "high res renders".

Okay, a guy(reliable) at another forums, said that GT4 will not have any drastic visual difference over GT3, the improvements will come from the gameplay and stuffs. Oh well.....at least have 480p....please!!!

Anyone recall an old GT4 topic? I said i didnt expect any major visual diff(unlike the majority who thought otherwise), i guess i was right.

Well, you always say that, so it's not like you made some major educated guess. I guess people who thought otherwise were looking at actual examples where the two games in the series improved significantly in visual department. Like Burnout 1 to Burnout 2 for example.

Btw, it will be kinda sad if Burnout 2 (small team, partially renderware engine) ends up being technically more impressive, and it just might be (it certainly is compared to GT3) :(

I think GT3 is more technically impressive than give credit for....

I mean artwork can only bring you so far, yet GT3 still remains the sweetest racer on PS2, it has beefy looking modelled cars, nice reflections, great handlings/AI/physics, stable fps, good track IQ and all....i believe it is pushing PS2 more than thought.

Even with just 480p and better filtered IQ, GT4 will look sweet, though not to certain levels people expected.

GT3->GT4 will probabaly be about what GT->GT2 was, slightly improved graphics and way more cars and tracks.

Chap, the AI and physics are not exactly the greatest in the GT series. In fact the same cheap tactics that could be used in GT can still be used in GT3, like bouncing off of walls and opponents on corners or slamming into the back of opponents instead of braking correctly. The AI is also really bad; cars running a set path and not moving from it and slowing down and speeding up depending on how you drive(rubberband AI).
