God of War vs. Heavenly Sword

Anyone else have their intrest level in Heavenly Sword increased after playing God of War? Obviously the details of Heavenly Sword aren't known, but from the screenshots, there seems to be some similarity at the basic level: Have swift and deadly melee weapon(s) will travel. GoW is a great example of what can be achieved in the 3rd person action genre. Now take and put in on next-gen hardware and you've got an explosive combo on your hands.

Here are some early prototype screenshots for those not familar.

My anticipation level for Heavenly Sword went up a lot after Ninja Gaiden raised the bar so high for these type of titles.

The most critical design quality of a third-person action melee game is the fluidness of its combat. So far, the veterans of AM fighting game development seem to have the best mastery of this craft: Namco of Soul Calibur/Tekken work, Sega Sammy of Virtua Fighter work, and of course Tecmo's Team Ninja with Ninja Gaiden.

I thought Heavenly Sword was a Beat-Them-All à la Shin Sangoku Musou (Dynasty Warriors 2/3/4/5). Which is kind of different from God of War or Ninja Gaiden.

BTW, GoW is nuts! Friggin' nuts!
And, silly me, I was about to import Shining Tears, and then change my mind for GoW... Best last minute choice I made ever!

On the subject of Ninja Theory, did the guys found a publisher for their game? Or are they still looking for one?
Deano you can answer this question or is it still classed "Top Secret" material?

The combat engine was compared with Ninja Gaiden in tightness and depth.

There are massive armies of enemies to deal with at a time, though. They said to imagine Half-Life with swords against a horde of attackers.

Speaking of which, God of War is still N.6 in the overall rankings and N.1 for PS2 at Gamerankings.com. After quite a lot of reviews. Neat.

it looks good and I hear a lot of good thing is it worth getting a ps2 for?

If you like action games, i guess this is as good as it gets on PS2 and probably this generation. Can't wait to put my hands on it.

I think I'm allowed to say we are sorted with regard a publisher but who/what/where is currently private.

Are you allowed to say whether you've sorted out 'stupid skirt' animation yet! :p

She's looking a lot better IMO. Everything you would expect, is working quite nicely now.

The topic is kinda odd. How about "God of War 2" vs. Heavenly Sword? God of War is a high budget game, well received, homegrown franchise by SCEA, but it's THIS gen ... Sony should bang a few PS3 SDKs on their desks and force them to make a PS3 launch title / sequel of it :devilish:

Neat. Whether the final garment ended up being a skirt or not, look forward to the end result! :)

In that same interview, it's mentioned that online gameplay is being considered to be included into the game. I hope it turns out to be feasible. Online combat is something that Ninja Gaiden and God of War don't explore.

I'm curious as to what titles you slip Sega in with, while leaving Capcom out.
