. . . at least the first I've seen.

This concludes 13%. So if you figure 5,000,000 PS3's that's 650,000 "Blu-ray players" in use to watch movies from amongst the PS3 crowd.

The thing is, it appears to me that's a floor, not a ceiling. The reason is, contexually it appears to be this is a survey of all console owners about their movie-watching habits with their hardware rather than just PS3 owners. Why do I say that? Because it says, "though 80 percent of console owners have the option" to watch movies. . . this must mean we are looking at all console owners, not just PS3.

So, I'd say 13% is the floor of active movie watchers from amongst PS3 owners. But, the ceiling re PS3? I don't know, but it seems reasonable to me it would be somewhat higher than this for pure economic reasons that would not apply to older consoles in an age of mass market $50 DVD players. How much higher? Not a clue. But personally I was fairly pleased to be able to stick a floor in at 13%, as all I've seen is anecdotal and guesswork up to now on the matter.

They sold 5 million PS3s?

Oh, do you really want to invite another dreary conversation on the matter of what the difference is between shipped and sold and what kind of factor you'd have to apply to one to be in the ballpark of the other?

If so, I might make you pick a number and defend it.

P.S. I think Sony claims 5.5M shipped (which might be "sold" by their standard, as they don't typically get paid directly by the consumer) by March 31. That was three months ago.
