I have to agree. I believe this game is what the industry over there has needed for a long time. It feels like this generation just began for Japan as far as HD goes. I expect to see very impressive sales figures not only for the game next week but for the system as well.Ok, so SquareEnix has shipped 1.8m copies to retailers. Will be interesting to see how many of those will be sold, and how many PS3s to go along with them!
If I were to guess, it seems SquareEnix made an accurate assessment here - there are just about 4 million PS3s in Japan right now, and last time Final Fantasy was released for the PSP almost half the install base bought that game, so I'm guessing that they're aiming for that figure here.
About 4 hours in now. I am quite impressed by the graphics. I didn't expect them to be this good. Technically it is step up from the AC Demo version.
Only problem is that the world feels a bit static at times. It's not like uncharted where you have physics on objects and snow that deforms etc. But otherwise there are places in this game that are drop dead gorgeous in realtime. The character models look really great too but almost too perfect like dolls. Once and a while you will see a sharp elbow or shoulder or something like that. But still it looks quite good.
IQ wise it is really sharp and crisp looking. Not dull or blurry like several recent games.
Story isn't really grabbing me yet. But I do really like the Lightning character. A real bad ass, tough female who makes most of the other male leading characters in other FF games look like whiny little girls.

Now that's excellent news on the graphics side. A couple of screenshots have came to my attention lately that the game Can indeed render beautiful foliage, I hope there are more scenes like these.About 4 hours in now. I am quite impressed by the graphics. .
Impress Watch posted a summary of the speech, which was given by Event Motion Director Yusuke Tanaka and other members of the game's visual staff.
Just a few stats. Final Fantasy XIII has nine hours of cut scenes. This is split between pre-rendered movies, created by Square Enix's internal movie production team "Visual Works," and six hours of real time rendered scenes. The latter area was the topic of the lecture, and according to Tanaka, it took 16 months to produce the full lot.

Woah, I have that demo. What do you mean by "a step up" ?
Don't have the game, but one thing I appreciate about Lightning is that she doesn't seem to have the breathy, little-girl voice that is so ubiquitous among female Japanese VAs.
