Eyetoy PS3 MIA?

I walked by a shop that had this for the first time and was very tempted. I'm considering it, but have to think about it carefully. This Friday we'll probably also get the standalone PS Eye, and I think I'll have to decide from there. My wife doesn't seem to want to play this, and for now that's my biggest bottleneck, someone I can (and want to) play this with. I'm definitely getting the PS Eye, and I do think though that this is a great showcase.

Are there any more cute interactions between the creatures and your hand? That alone I found so incredibly charming!

I can only try out Eye of Judgment during Thanksgiving week. For one, the setup is elaborate and I need some time to clear up the mess here. And then, I am a little scared of getting sucked into yet another addictive game right now.

xbd, are the bundled cards enough for 2 players, or did you buy more booster packs ?

For two players you'd need more booster packs, although player vs the computer is plenty fun until those booster packs are acquired. I've already spent a fair bit of money on boosters, so on one hand you may want to stay away if you fear getting sucked in... but on the other, it's worth getting sucked into! :)

A second starter deck plus one booster pack will let a 2nd player jump in, and keep them on a pretty even field as you, in terms of cards (skill is another thing). I even have a couple of friends who don't own PS3s who have purchased their own decks and booster packs so that we can play.

As for cute interactions, I haven't seen any outside of the special viewer mode. Although they seem to have different reactions depending on what side you touch them (ie when poked from the front the reaction is different than the side). Mind you, those interactions don't actually seem to take place during battles, just in one of the other modes (at least, I've never been able to during battle).

Someone mentioned in a review (was it Eurogamer?) that you can in fact play a two player game with your default cards though. You guys seem to say you physically can't, or is it just impractical? (i.e. you won't get a balanced pair of sets)

Per the rules, each deck requires 30 cards. The default starter deck only has 30 cards, plus 8 from the booster. So, I suppose you could split the deck with 19 each. The game won't stop you from doing that for offline games as your deck doesn't have to be registered. So, I guess you physically could. Never thought of it until now. Wouldn't be too hard to balance the starter deck with booster pack out between the split deck. Each person will just be short on cards (and when someone runs out of cards they automatically loose), and you'll both have to share one set of action cards.

Quite possibly, for simple shapes. The drawing response thing is cool, but actually something the DS has been managing for a while! No-one remember Pac-Pix? The physics response was good though, with convincing 2D collisions and reactions. It'd be a great way to allow for level design in something like Worms. Imagine if instead of an editor, you could sketch a level design and have the system fill in textures, create objects, interactions, etc.? Soon games won't need art departments as the end-users become the content creators! SEUCK should be reborn!

Just noticed the new videos. Awesome!
I can think of some pretty fun party gaming with that scanning feature!!!:D

They should port apps like Google SketchUp or ZBrush to PS3 with PS Eye interface, is RAM usage the barrier? At least they should be able to make an app like 3D Mario Paint or something Shigeru Miyamoto was pondering as the clay with its physics properties.

In the questions they say yes ...
Awesome, Prime Sense is just one step away.

Hopefully, they will map the PS Eye capability to everyday functions soon, like XMB usage, music + photo + movie player. It's MUCH more useful and valuable that way.
It doesn't have to be branded as a niche or gimmicky tool.

So the bug thing wasn't out until now? That'll explain why there's been no reporting. Except none of the other PSEye stuff has been covered much. :(

I can tell you now about most of what's out there ... just let me know if there is something you're curious about, and I'll check it out and report back.

In the meantime, I'm among others enjoying a nice stack of new Eye of Judgment cards. But I'll report on those in the appropriate thread. ;)

I re-engineered a previous thread to make it a generic PSN PSEye thread. I'd like feedback on anything PSeye! Is it being implemented well, with diversity and making the most fo the Eye's abilities rather than being gimmicky? Like that Topaq (sp?) game - does it actually work as a game? The videos were a bit uncertain to me, as the rolling of the ball out of the frame on one side to enter on the other seemed clumsy. But there was a good clip of a guy rolling out the ball to the next level and then catching it in his arms, so maybe it works?

So any 'reviews' would be very appreciated, although I don't want to take away from your EoJ time!

Okay! Well I've been testing some other stuff (Warhawk) and Remote Play / wake up on lan, but while doing so I discovered one funny thing. Out of the four PS Eye titles I currenly have, Aqua Vita actually works with remote play! How odd is that eh? :D I also read and tested that you can feed the fish by the way by tapping on the water surface ... quite funny. I've played and I think already gave some impressions on Topoq somewhere else, but I'll get back to it once I play another round of the more difficult challenges. There's more to it than I thought initially, that's for sure, though I don't know yet if it is really good. The Mesmerize things have so far gone over really well with the female audience, but aren't really substantial ... You'll hear more from me soon - I took all Friday's off for the rest of the year, giving me some more time not only to do some useful stuff like install a new kitchen and prepare for the baby, but also play a little bit more. ;) (Fortunately my wife sleeps a lot too now ;) )

Just got Aqua Vitae (Aquatopia in US) and Creature Feature yesterday. Didn't know about the RemotePlay mode. Yes... you can disturb the fish by playing with the water surface. I didn't see any fish food though.

EDIT: Argh, Arwin is correct. There is fish food if you perform the feeding motion on the water surface. If you just swirl the water, you may not see any fish food.

Creature Feature is interesting. I like the concept. I dislike the "Wave your hand in front of a button to activate it" gesture (This is the "OK" button to get into the game). It is very error prone and hard to activate. I have to adjust my speed and wave for 30 seconds to 1 minute for it to detect properly. The other UI elements works reasonably well (e.g., thumbing through lists of options).

The actual game itself is more challenging than I thought. I have to handle the Blurbs (the bug-like animals) with care... or they will fly all over the place like cotton. I got to the 4th stage but by then my wife and toddler have come back from shopping. Had to abort the game and get back to "work" (so they won't drag me to another shopping together). :)

EDIT: I replayed the game. Turns out that the instruction is wrong. I don't have to wave my hand over the "Ok" button. In fact, a simple positioning of my index finger over the button for 2 seconds will do. The game is also much easier once I get used to it. After trying it for real, I gained a lot more confidence over the use of PS Eye as a general UI enhancement tool. It can work.

EDIT 2: Replayed the game with my kid. This time I need to wave my hands/fingers a little, but I am much better at it now. It seemed that I was very closed to the camera the last time, so my finger occupied a large part of the button... and it conveniently read my unsteady pointing as "waving".

EDIT 3: Ok, just found out there are 2 PS Eye settings. Using the blue setting produces the best result for me (Just leave my finger in the "Ok" button and it will be detected almost immediately without waving).

 If this is your first baby, you better try to play more and sleep more now.

I am a fan of the Eye and anything related to it.
I got the EoJ, Aquavita, Creature Feature, Eye Create.

Eoj
Fun game, and the card recognition works extremely well. Must have for any Magic player.

Aquavita
Not much interaction here. I don't know why people have to pay for this. You can scare and attract fish, and throw some food at them (you have to shake your hand in the watter). This should be free. Not much to do...

Creature Feature
Fun game. And it works pretty well too. There are times, that I seem to feel the Blurbs on my hands...

Eye Create
I've made some funny movies with my 3 months baby. A lot of fun with this one. It even has a stop motion option, and I m a fan of Stop mo.
I wonder why we have to pay for Aquavita, and this one is free. It should be the other way

As for the PSEye, I think that compared with the Eye Toy, it is much much better, with a much better image quaility. The interaction with it seems to work very well.

Yes. I got so engrossed in the game that I didn't even think twice about the interface. The 2 times it stopped me was when my thumb covered the identification tag. Other than that, PS Eye is fascinating.

Agreed. It is pretty useless. They should at least make this into a real screen saver.

:) Same here ! My toddler loves it too.

EDIT: I realized that there are 2 settings for PS Eye (blue LED and the other color). The blue setting works really really well with Creature Feature for me. It's almost as if I am holding the Blurbs myself.
If I play using the other setting, I will have to wave my hand to attract the Blurbs and even so, it's less effective.

Eye Create will complement PS Home very well, but for now.. it is merely an outlying utility for me :(
